Whirlpool - 36 in. Wide 25 cu. ft. Side-By-Side Refrigerator - Black Stainless Steel WRS555SIHV

The ice maker is the most frequently reported problem—multiple owners report it has failed, leaked, or stopped working within weeks to months of purchase. Water dispenser leaks are also common, with some owners experiencing persistent leaks even after service calls and component replacements. Temperature fluctuations in the refrigerator and freezer have been reported by several owners. A few owners have experienced multiple service calls within the first year.

Most owners praise the side-by-side layout and generous storage capacity. Reviewers consistently highlight well-organized shelving, spacious drawers, and a convenient in-door ice maker. The 25 cubic-foot capacity is noted as ample for most families. However, some owners wish the shelves were adjustable, as fixed shelf spacing can make it difficult to fit taller items or certain containers.

Yes, the dispenser area is a common complaint. Multiple owners report the opening is too small to fit large cups or water bottles, and water tends to spray or drip onto the floor. Some note the ice dispenser is loud and scatters ice. A few owners also mention the dispenser light is positioned behind the cup, making it hard to see the water level. One reviewer raised a hygiene concern about the contact point where glasses activate the dispenser.

Most owners report the refrigerator maintains consistent temperatures and keeps food at the correct temperature. However, several owners have experienced temperature fluctuations—some report the fridge varying between 34 and 41 degrees, or the freezer swinging between -30 and 10 degrees. One owner noted the temperature stability improved after the first week. Overall, the majority are satisfied with cooling performance, though a small number have had significant issues.

Opinions are mixed. Several long-time Whirlpool customers express disappointment, noting that older Whirlpool models lasted 20+ years, while they worry this one won't last as long. Multiple owners report plastic components breaking or feeling cheap—particularly the ice maker tray and gears. However, some newer owners are pleased so far and note the product was recommended by Consumer Reports. A few owners have had to replace components like the ice tray and drip tray within the first year.

Yes, owners report that setup and installation are easy. One owner noted that changing the water filter is as simple as on their previous Whirlpool model, and another praised clear instructions. A few owners mentioned the refrigerator moves easily, which is helpful during installation.

Many owners consider this a good value for the price and appreciate the spacious layout and modern appearance. Several 5-star reviewers recommend it and note they are very happy with their purchase. However, some owners regret the purchase due to reliability issues and noise, and a few long-time Whirlpool customers say they would not buy this model again. Satisfaction appears to depend heavily on whether the unit experiences early failures.
