“This unit is exactly what we needed. Installed water filter ahead of unit to create crystal clear, clean ice. Many family gatherings, never run out. Cleaning straight forward. Agree with others that the unit is loud, but installed in butler pantry area buffered from rest of house, not an issue for us. Purchased on promotion, high value for function compared to market. Owners Answer
The questions shoppers ask, answered from real owner reviews and discussions across the web — not the manufacturer spec sheet.
How reliable is this ice maker over time?Based on 6 owner mentions
Reliability is a significant concern with this model. Multiple owners report pump failures within 6–12 months of purchase, with some experiencing repeated failures requiring service calls and parts replacement. A small number of owners report trouble-free operation beyond 2+ years, but the pattern across reviews shows frequent early-life failures are common enough that durability should be a key consideration before purchase.
Is this ice maker loud?Based on 2 owner mentions
Yes, this unit operates with a notably loud motor. Owners consistently report it is extremely loud during operation. If noise is a concern, placement in a buffered or isolated area away from main living spaces can help minimize the impact.
What size ice cubes does this maker produce?Based on 1 owner mention
This unit produces large ice cubes. Some owners find the cube size larger than expected, so if you prefer smaller cubes, this may not be the best fit.
What are the dimensions of this ice maker?Based on 2 owner mentions
The unit measures 14.9 inches wide, 33.8 inches tall, and 25.5 inches deep. These dimensions should be verified against your installation space before purchase.
How much ice does this maker produce, and is it enough for a family?Based on 2 owner mentions
Owners who have had reliable units report that production is sufficient for frequent family gatherings and entertaining without running out of ice. Actual output depends on consistent operation, so reliability is key to meeting household demand.
Is water filtration recommended before installation?Based on 1 owner mention
Yes, owners recommend installing a water filter ahead of the unit to produce crystal-clear, clean ice and protect internal components from mineral buildup.
How easy is this ice maker to clean and maintain?Based on 1 owner mention
Cleaning is straightforward according to owners who have maintained the unit. Regular maintenance, including condenser vacuuming, is part of normal upkeep.

wanderer9307Jun 25, 2024 - Xo Outdoor Ice maker
Purchased for our New Florida home, neighbors are jealous ! Plenty of ice for the whole family
JulsJul 26, 2022 - Extremely loud motor and large ice cubes
I was very disappointed in the Icemaker because it is extremely loud. I thought it was just the first 24 hours when it was getting going but it is still extremely loud. The ice cubes are also very large.
MarilynDec 16, 20226 found this helpful - Died in a matter of months.....
Had unit for less than 6 months before it died. Completely shut down. Manufacturer does not have rep in area to fix so I have to uninstall and send it back. AJ madison and XO are taking forever to get me through this process. Very disappointed.
CenCalAug 10, 20236 found this helpful - Pump failures all over the place
I bought this ice maker 6 months ago and the pump already failed. When the tech arrived to replace the part (8 weeks later), he said these pumps are all that he's been replacing lately. Unfortunately I recommended my friend to install this unit in his new home before my own experience and I fear it's only a matter of time before his fails too. I sincerely hope that the new pump lasts more than 6 months. Won't buy this brand again.
8 Weeks No IceJan 9, 20236 found this helpful - Avoid!
Don't waste your time and money. Pump failed within the first month. A few months later the unit stopped making ice altogether. Vacuumed the condenser. Worked for a two weeks then stopped again. No longer investing to fix this lemon. It's on the curb now. Thanks XO.
mario70Jul 13, 20235 found this helpful - Would NOT recommend buying
From the time I bought this product from AJ madison I have had trouble with this. I have had it serviced and parts replaced within 6 months as well. Last year they replaced the main board and it worked for another 6 months and now it’s not working again.
EmerisApr 11, 20252 found this helpful - Not worth the money
I've owned the system for a little over a year and it has broke twice.
chowardAug 8, 20242 found this helpful - three pump failures in 2 1/2 years
Review for XO Ice Maker Model XOUIM1565SP Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ (1 Star) I purchased an XO ice maker model XOUIM1565SP approximately two and a half years ago, and it has been one of the most unreliable appliances I have owned. During that time, the pump has failed three separate times. Each failure completely shuts down the unit, making the ice maker unusable until the pump is replaced. What makes the situation even more frustrating is the excessive downtime while waiting for parts. The unit is currently broken again due to another pump failure, and we have been waiting nearly a month for XO to send a replacement pump. As of now, the machine is still not operational. When I look back at the total time we’ve owned this ice maker, it has spent a significant portion of that time out of service due to repeated pump failures and slow parts replacement. For an appliance in this price range, that level of reliability is extremely disappointing. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this ice maker. Between the repeated breakdowns, the ongoing pump issues, and the long delays in getting replacement parts, it has been far more trouble than it is worth. If I had the opportunity to make the purchase again, I would choose a different brand with a stronger reputation for reliability and product support.
