Whirlpool 36 in. Wide Side-By-Side Refrigerator In Black 28 cu. ft. WRS588FIHB

This model is 36 inches wide, 68.9 inches tall, and 34.9 inches deep. These dimensions make it a standard full-size side-by-side that fits well in most kitchen spaces, though some reviewers note it's important to verify fit in your specific location before purchase.

This model has a total capacity of 28 cubic feet, which reviewers consistently praise as spacious and roomy. Many owners report it provides noticeably more usable interior space than their previous refrigerators of similar external dimensions, with ample room for families and flexible storage options.

Many owners report the ice and water dispenser features work great and appreciate that the ice maker is located in the door rather than taking up freezer shelf space. However, a notable number of reviewers have experienced ice maker failures or malfunctions over time, with some reporting the ice maker stopped working within 2–4 years, required multiple replacements, or had issues with crushed ice function. Water dispensing has also been reported as slow or inconsistent by some users.

Several reviewers report the refrigerator makes noticeable noise during operation, including gurgling sounds, ice dispenser noise, and general compressor sounds. Some describe it as loud or noisy from day one, while others note it develops noise over time. A few owners mention occasional operational sounds but are otherwise satisfied with the unit.

The main interior shelves and door shelves are not adjustable on this model. Multiple reviewers note this as a limitation, particularly when trying to accommodate taller items like wine bottles or milk jugs. Some owners wish the shelving were more flexible, though others are satisfied with the fixed shelf arrangement.

Reliability is a significant concern for this model. Multiple reviewers report major failures within 2–5 years, including compressor breakdowns, complete loss of cooling, ice maker failures, and temperature control issues requiring service calls or replacement. However, some owners report trouble-free operation for several months to a year, and a smaller group express satisfaction with durability. The pattern suggests inconsistent build quality and early failure rates for a notable portion of units.

Most owners report the refrigerator and freezer keep food cold and frozen as expected. However, some reviewers have experienced temperature control problems, including food freezing in the refrigerator section even at recommended settings, or difficulty maintaining consistent temperatures. A few owners also note that decreasing the temperature to fix cold spots can cause everything to freeze.

Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, bright LED lighting, attractive exterior finish (fingerprint-resistant), side-by-side door design for easy access, and the door-mounted ice and water dispenser. Many appreciate the modern appearance, ease of cleaning, and the fact that the ice maker doesn't consume freezer shelf space. Several reviewers highlight good value for the price and overall satisfaction with features and design.
