How to read this cross-section
- Size class
- A cubic-foot band of total capacity, from under 5 cu ft up to 30 and over. Each product sits in one band by its published capacity — the horizontal axis of the whole page.
- Median price & P10–P90
- The median advertised price in the band, and the 10th-to-90th-percentile range around it. The range already excludes the cheapest and priciest tenth, so one outlier never sets the number.
- Products
- The count of qualifying products behind a figure — active listings that publish both a capacity and an in-range advertised price. A class or type under 8 products is disclosed but not published.
- Lowest & highest
- The full extremes in a size class — the single lowest and highest qualifying advertised prices. They frame the P10–P90 range, not the other way around.

Two things the cross-section shows
Price climbs with size — in steps, not a straight line. The median holds near $1,041.95 through the 15-20 cu ft class, then jumps to $1,952.20 at 20-25 cu ft as full-size French-door and side-by-side designs take over — the single steepest step in the table — before flattening again above it.
One size is not one price. The 0-5 cu ft class alone runs from $149.39 to $1,417.51 between its 10th and 90th percentile — the widest relative spread in the table, because the same cubic-foot figure covers plain cube fridges and premium built-in cooling. That is why every row carries its P10–P90 span.

The median advertised price for each appliance type, priciest first. Size explains much of the gap — the priciest types are also the largest — but configuration carries its own premium, most of all for french-door designs.

The universe is the active, listable Fridge.com catalog of refrigeration appliances, restricted to the 1,274 products that publish both a cubic-foot capacity and a valid advertised price. Prices are trimmed to a $50–$20,000 validity gate and capacity to 40 cubic feet, which removes 22 out-of-range rows and leaves 1,252 products in the cross-section.
Each product falls into one cubic-foot size class and one appliance type. For every class and type, the median and the 10th/90th-percentile advertised prices are taken, and a class or type is published only once it carries at least 8 qualifying products. The catalog and its prices are the Fridge.com record; the aggregation is the Fridge.com synthesis, published under a CC BY 4.0 license.
Known limitations
- ·Only products that publish a cubic-foot capacity can enter the cross-section. Of 4,426 active listings, 1,411 carry a capacity and 1,252 carry both a capacity and an in-range advertised price, so the figures describe that measured subset, not the whole catalog.
- ·Price is the lowest advertised price per product at the time the figures were taken and moves with the market; the 10th-to-90th-percentile range already excludes the cheapest and priciest tenth of each band.
- ·Values below $50 or above $20,000, and capacities above 40 cubic feet, are treated as data errors and trimmed before any figure is taken (22 products excluded).
- ·A size class or appliance type carrying fewer than 8 qualifying products is disclosed for completeness but its price figures are withheld, never estimated.

Why is it based on 1,252 products and not the whole catalog?
Because a size cross-section needs a published capacity. Of 4,426 active listings, 1,411 publish a cubic-foot capacity and 1,252 publish both a capacity and an in-range advertised price. The figures describe that measured subset, and every table states it plainly rather than implying full coverage.
Why do some appliance types show no price?
A type is published only once it carries at least 8 qualifying products — 14 of the 21 types on Fridge.com clear that bar. The rest are disclosed with their product count but no price figure, because a median over a handful of listings is not a benchmark. A blank cell means "not published," never zero.
How current is this, and can I download it?
This release, methodology v1.0, reflects the catalog as of July 2026. Advertised prices move with the market, so the figures are a dated snapshot, not live quotes. The full cross-section is available as a CSV at https://fridge.com/data/price-by-size/csv, and the method is documented on the page.
