GE Profile 48 Inch Profile 48" Built In Counter Depth Side-By-Side Refrigerator PSB48YSNSS

Owners consistently praise the sleek, modern design, spacious interior with flexible shelving, bright LED lighting, and reliable ice and water dispensers. Many highlight the counter-depth footprint for improved kitchen flow, and several report long-term durability—some owners have kept previous GE models for 16–33 years and purchased this model as a replacement based on that track record.

Noise is a recurring concern. Several owners report the compressor and fan are noticeably loud, with some describing it as high-pitched rather than white noise. A few note it was quieter initially but became louder over time. However, some owners find it acceptable or compare it favorably to their previous models. Expectations may vary depending on your tolerance and prior appliance experience.

Owners report mixed experiences. Many praise the ice maker for working well and producing smaller cubes that some prefer. However, several report the ice dispenser is slow—taking 30 seconds or more for a small amount—and some cubes escape into the fridge rather than the glass. A notable minority experienced ice maker failures within the first few years, requiring replacement or repair.

A significant minority of owners report premature failures—ice maker malfunctions, cooling issues, and compressor problems—often occurring within 2–3 years and sometimes before warranty expiration. Some also mention an RFID filter-detection system that can fail and lock out water and ice dispensing unless repaired by GE at substantial cost. While many owners report years of trouble-free service, the pattern of early failures in some units warrants consideration of an extended warranty.

Newer models have adjustable shelves and drawers, which most owners find adequate and flexible. However, some owners who previously owned older GE models note that the new shelves are shallower and hold less, and that the removal of dedicated door shelves (like a butter dish compartment) is a downgrade. One owner also mentioned the interior light bulge takes up shelf space. Overall, storage is still spacious, but the layout differs from legacy models.

Most owners report the water dispenser works well, though a few note the water flow is slow and the water temperature could be colder. One owner mentioned the lack of preset fill options despite the premium price point. Overall, the water feature is functional and appreciated, but not universally described as fast or exceptionally cold.

At least one owner confirmed the unit fit perfectly into the cabinet space left by a previous refrigerator, suggesting good dimensional compatibility with standard built-in installations. However, one owner noted the refrigerator section may have less usable depth than expected, making it harder to fit larger items on shelves. It is advisable to verify dimensions against your specific cabinet opening before purchase.

One owner reported that door shelves break easily, citing this as a reason not to recommend the product. This is a limited but notable concern about long-term durability of the door assembly.
