The Danby DUF167A3WDD is an upright freezer with a 16.7 cubic foot capacity. It features a white finish and falls into the category of major appliances designed for frozen food storage. This model is designed in an upright configuration, which differs from chest-style freezers in its vertical orientation.
This freezer is suited for households that need dedicated frozen storage space beyond what a standard refrigerator-freezer combination provides. The upright design allows it to fit against a wall in a basement, garage, or utility room where floor space may be limited but vertical clearance is available. Given its classification as a major appliance and substantial capacity, potential buyers should verify that their intended installation location has adequate space and appropriate electrical service before purchase.

“I had never heard of Danby before looking for a new freezer. After seeing several other brands it seemed to me that this one from Danby was the best as far as design, size, and shelf layout that I saw. I've had this freezer for around 6 months, and it works perfectly for my use. No frost is also a huge improvement over my old unit.”
Owners Answer
The questions shoppers ask, answered from real owner reviews and discussions across the web — not the manufacturer spec sheet.
Are there any known durability or longevity concerns?Based on 6 owner mentions
While most owners report satisfaction, several reviewers experienced premature failures—units stopping after 1–2 years—which is concerning given the expected lifespan of a freezer. Additionally, some owners reported door seal and hinge issues. These reports suggest potential quality control variability, so careful attention to warranty terms and support availability is recommended.
How spacious is this freezer and how does the shelf layout compare to chest freezers?Based on 6 owner mentions
The freezer offers 16.7 cubic feet of capacity with a thoughtfully designed shelf layout that makes it much easier to organize and locate items compared to chest freezers. Multiple reviewers praise the spacious interior, flexible shelf configuration, and convenient door storage, noting that the upright design eliminates the need to dig through and rearrange items to find what you need.
Is this freezer quiet during operation?Based on 6 owner mentions
Yes, multiple owners report that this freezer runs very quietly. Several reviewers specifically mention the quiet operation as a standout feature, making it suitable for various spaces including sheds and living areas.
Does this freezer maintain temperature well during power outages?Based on 1 owner mention
Yes, the freezer is well-insulated and maintains frozen temperatures effectively. One reviewer reported that after a 5-day power outage, items showed no sign of thawing, and the unit even successfully froze thawed items that were transferred into it.
What is the warranty coverage on this freezer?Based on 3 owner mentions
The freezer comes with a warranty that reviewers describe as excellent and unbeatable. However, one owner reported difficulty getting warranty service honored after the unit failed, so it is advisable to clarify warranty terms and support responsiveness before purchase.
Is the door reversible, and how easy is installation?Based on 3 owner mentions
The freezer features a reversible door for flexible placement, though one reviewer encountered misaligned pre-drilled holes that prevented door reversal on their unit. Most owners report easy setup and delivery, with straightforward instructions.
Does this freezer have frost-free operation?Based on 5 owner mentions
The freezer is advertised as frost-free, and most owners confirm it operates without frost buildup. However, one reviewer reported that their unit frosted up despite the frost-free claim, and another noted a door seal leak that caused frost accumulation in that area, suggesting occasional quality control issues.
What lighting is included, and is it adequate?Based on 5 owner mentions
The freezer includes LED interior lighting that most reviewers praise for making it easy to locate items. However, one owner noted that with only a single light, the bottom shelves can be dark and harder to see.

- Poorly lit.
It is a well set up appliance with only one defect. There is only one light in freezer and the bottom shelves are in the dark.
RobinudelMar 6, 2021 - Great freezer but handle is a little flimsy
So far I have been very happy with this freezer. My only complaint is that the handle could be sturdier. Only held on by two phillips head screws.
John in QuilMar 20, 2021 - Great quality
Freezer is very quiet and does it’s job very well. This the first Danny product we have owned and I am very satisfied with the quality, fit and finish.

Marc CMar 8, 2021 - Danby Freezer
We upgraded from an old chest freezer to this Danby. We threw out a lot of food simply because it was difficult to dig through and move things around to see what was in there. The new one is so nice with lots of space.

Brand Background
About Danby
Danby is a family-owned Canadian appliance manufacturer headquartered in Guelph, Ontario, that has been producing refrigeration products since 1947. The company has carved out a distinct niche in the North American market by focusing primarily on compact and specialty refrigeration rather than competing directly with full-size kitchen appliance giants. Fridge.com currently tracks 75 Danby products, with the catalog heavily weighted toward space-saving solutions: 18 compact refrigerators, 14 chest freezers, 13 upright freezers, and 9 beverage centers represent the core of their offerings. The brand also maintains smaller selections of French door refrigerators, kegerators, and wine storage units. Among the most frequently monitored models in the Fridge.com database are the DBC117A1 beverage cooler and the DCF050A6WM chest freezer, reflecting consumer interest in Danby's specialty categories. With an average rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars across captured reviews, Danby positions itself as a value-tier option for shoppers seeking secondary refrigeration, dorm room solutions, garage freezers, or dedicated beverage storage without the premium pricing of larger appliance brands.
