The Danby DUFM043A2WDD is an upright freezer with a 4.3 cubic foot capacity. It features manual defrost operation and uses a mechanical thermostat for temperature control. The unit has a white finish and is classified as a major appliance in the upright freezer category.
This freezer is suited for households needing additional frozen storage space beyond what a refrigerator's freezer compartment provides. The upright design allows it to fit in spaces where floor space is limited, such as kitchens, basements, or utility rooms. The manual defrost system requires periodic defrosting by the user to maintain efficiency. Before purchasing, verify that the unit's dimensions will fit your intended location and that appropriate electrical service is available.

Gathering the reviews
We continuously collect owner reviews and public discussions from major retailers and community forums, de-duplicate them, and set aside anything we can’t tie to a verified purchase.

Owners Answer
The questions shoppers ask, answered from real owner reviews and discussions across the web — not the manufacturer spec sheet.
Is this freezer quiet and energy efficient?Based on 3 owner mentions
Yes. Multiple owners report the freezer runs very quietly and uses minimal power. Reviewers consistently praise its quiet operation and low energy consumption, making it a good choice for garage or kitchen placement.
How much storage space does this freezer provide?Based on 4 owner mentions
The freezer has a capacity of 4.3 cubic feet. Owners consistently report it holds more food than expected for its compact size, with particularly generous door storage. It's well-suited for 1–2 person households or as overflow backup for entertaining and stocking bargains.
Is it easy to defrost and maintain?Based on 3 owner mentions
Yes. Owners report the freezer is straightforward to defrost—simply turn it off and use towels to manage meltwater. Reviewers also note the door has a protective lip that helps maintain seals, and the overall design is easier to maintain than previous freezer models they've owned.
Will this freezer fit in a compact space like a garage or kitchen?Based on 2 owner mentions
Yes. Multiple owners confirm the freezer is compact and fits well in garages, kitchens, and other tight spaces. Its small footprint makes it ideal when you don't want to store a freezer in a basement or distant location.
What are the known limitations or design concerns?Based on 3 owner mentions
A few owners note the plastic top cover is thin and prone to cracking; some suggest a stronger material would be preferable. One reviewer mentioned the unit does not have interior lighting or an external LED power indicator. The freezer is also manual-defrost rather than frost-free, which requires periodic maintenance.
How reliable is this freezer long-term?Based on 1 owner mention
Most reviewers report strong reliability and durability. However, one owner experienced a compressor failure within 15 months. While this is an isolated report among predominantly positive reviews, it underscores the importance of checking warranty coverage and considering extended protection if food preservation is critical.

- Perfect size
After our large freezer died and left us with a stinking mess of rotten meat and soup, we opted for a smaller freezer. This appliance is great--works very well and doesn't take up much space.

We have had this freezer for 2 months, and it has worked beautifully. Holds the freezing temperature and runs super quietly. It holds more than we expected.

There is a lip over the door which keeps the seals protected. There is more space than I thought. So far works great! I believe it will be easier to maintain then prior freezer I had.

Brand Background
About Danby
Danby is a family-owned Canadian appliance manufacturer headquartered in Guelph, Ontario, that has been producing refrigeration products since 1947. The company has carved out a distinct niche in the North American market by focusing primarily on compact and specialty refrigeration rather than competing directly with full-size kitchen appliance giants. Fridge.com currently tracks 75 Danby products, with the catalog heavily weighted toward space-saving solutions: 18 compact refrigerators, 14 chest freezers, 13 upright freezers, and 9 beverage centers represent the core of their offerings. The brand also maintains smaller selections of French door refrigerators, kegerators, and wine storage units. Among the most frequently monitored models in the Fridge.com database are the DBC117A1 beverage cooler and the DCF050A6WM chest freezer, reflecting consumer interest in Danby's specialty categories. With an average rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars across captured reviews, Danby positions itself as a value-tier option for shoppers seeking secondary refrigeration, dorm room solutions, garage freezers, or dedicated beverage storage without the premium pricing of larger appliance brands.
