Wine & Beverage Cooler Index
The specialty-cooling market on its own terms. This index treats wine coolers, beverage coolers, and kegerators as a distinct segment — 1,503 active models from 171 brands in the Fridge.com catalog — and reports what that segment actually costs and holds: the median advertised price with its 10th-to-90th-percentile range, the bottle-capacity distribution where models record one, the dual-versus-single zone split, and price by cellar size. It is the specialty companion to the Refrigerator Brand Index and the Appliance Price Index.

Wine & Beverage Cooler Index at a glance
How to read the index
- Segment
- Only the specialty-cooling types — wine coolers, beverage coolers, and kegerators. Whole-food refrigerators, freezers, and ice makers are out of scope, so this segment never overlaps the whole-catalog price, energy, or brand indices.
- Median price & P10–P90
- The median advertised price across priced models, and the 10th-to-90th-percentile range around it. The range already excludes the cheapest and priciest tenth.
- Bottle & can capacity
- Bottle capacity is the recorded per-model count, carried by 622 of 1,503 models (41%); can capacity is a stated 12 oz count on 492 models. A model that records neither is left out of that measure, never given an estimate.
- Zones
- Dual-zone or single-zone as each maker states it in its own product copy. The 891 models that state neither are counted as unstated, not guessed.
How bottle capacity is distributed
The bottle-capacity distribution across the 622 models that record one — 41% of the segment. The median cabinet holds 34 bottles; the long tail runs to a 326-bottle cellar. Models without a recorded count, including every kegerator, are excluded from this figure rather than imputed.
Bottle capacity across the wine & beverage cooler segment
The segment by type
The three specialty types side by side: models, brands, the median advertised price with its 10th-to-90th-percentile range, the dual-zone count, and how many models record a bottle capacity. Bottle medians publish only where a type carries at least 30 recorded counts — wine coolers clear it; kegerators dispense kegs and record none, and beverage cabinets record too few.
| Type | Models | Brands | Median price | P10–P90 price | Dual-zone | Bottle specs | Median bottles |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wine Cooler | 1,175 | 139 | $999 | $250.16–$3,649 | 379 | 616 | 36 |
| Kegerator | 184 | 22 | $1,527.99 | $472.99–$2,432.73 | 0 | 0 | — |
| Beverage Cooler | 144 | 64 | $883 | $169.99–$2,499.99 | 9 | 6 | — |
Price by cellar size
The median advertised price within each bottle-capacity band, and what that works out to per bottle of storage. Price climbs with size, but price per bottle does not fall in a straight line — the mid-size 34-to-50-bottle band is the most expensive per bottle, while the largest cellars are the cheapest place to store each bottle.
| Cellar size | Models | Median price | Median $ / bottle |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4–19 bottles | 107 | $329.99 | $25.33 |
| 20–33 bottles | 191 | $579.99 | $24.13 |
| 34–50 bottles | 139 | $1,439.99 | $36.68 |
| 51–100 bottles | 94 | $1,564.50 | $26.63 |
| 101–200 bottles | 84 | $1,900.49 | $12.07 |
| 201+ bottles | 3 | $2,678.07 | $9.26 |
Price bands across the segment
How the 1,472 priced models spread across advertised-price bands. The segment is not a budget category — the largest single band is $1,000–$2,000, and roughly a fifth of models sit above $2,000.
Advertised-price bands — wine, beverage & kegerator coolers
Two things the segment shows
Dual-zone is a wine-cooler trait. Of the 612 models that state a zone, 388 are dual-zone — but almost all of them are wine coolers; kegerators state no zone at all, and only a handful of beverage cabinets do. The 63.3% dual-zone share is a wine-storage figure, not a segment-wide one.
Bigger cellars store wine cheaper. Price per bottle is lowest in the largest cabinets — the 101-to-200-bottle band runs about $12.07 a bottle against $36.68 in the mid-size 34-to-50-bottle band. The cheapest place to store a bottle is the Allavino 326-bottle cellar tier, not a small counter-top cooler.
Leading segment brands
Every brand carrying at least 10 models in the segment: tracked models, the median advertised price with its 10th-to-90th-percentile range, how many models record a bottle capacity, the median bottle count where the sample supports it, and the count of dual-zone models. Zones & stated temperatures
63.3% of the 612 models that state a zone — a separate temperature for reds and whites.
One temperature throughout — the rest of the zone-stating models. A further 891 state no zone.
Across 166 models that state a control range — a median span of 23°F.
Cold enough for cans and short-term food, of the 166 stating a range. Stated control ranges, not lab tests.
On coverage. Bottle capacity is recorded for 622 of 1,503 models (41%), a stated can count for 492 (33%), a zone for 612, and a control-temperature range for 166. Every distribution above is drawn only from the models that carry the field; the rest are disclosed here and left out of that measure, never assigned an estimate.
How the index is built
The universe is the live Fridge.com catalog filtered to the three specialty-cooling types — wine coolers, beverage coolers, and kegerators — active and publishable (1,503 models in this release). Prices are aggregated over a $20–$30,000 validity gate: the median and the 10th/90th percentiles across 1,472 priced models.
Bottle capacity is the recorded per-model count within a 4–500-bottle gate; zone, can count, and control temperature are read from each maker’s own product copy and reported exactly as stated. Every distribution is drawn only from the models that carry the field, and the coverage is disclosed. A brand is listed once it carries at least 10 models. The aggregation is the Fridge.com synthesis, published under a CC BY 4.0 license.
Known limitations
- ·Bottle capacity is recorded for 622 of the 1,503 models; models without a recorded count are excluded from bottle-based measures, not imputed. Kegerators are keg dispensers and carry no bottle count.
- ·Zone counts reflect what each maker states in its own product copy (dual-zone or single-zone); 891 models state neither and are disclosed as unstated.
- ·Stated temperature ranges are parsed from maker copy on 166 models; they are the claimed control range, not an independent lab measurement.
- ·Can capacity is parsed from maker copy on 492 models; it is the stated 12 oz can count, and beverage-oriented models are far likelier to publish one than wine-only cabinets.
- ·Prices are the lowest advertised price per model at read time and move with the market; the 10th-to-90th-percentile range already excludes the cheapest and priciest tenth.
- ·Standard 750 ml bottles are the industry counting convention; larger formats reduce real-world bottle capacity.
- 01
Isolate the segment
Filter the live catalog to the wine, beverage, and kegerator cooler types — active and publishable. Whole-food refrigerators, freezers, and ice makers are excluded, so the segment never overlaps the whole-catalog indices.
- 02
Aggregate what the models carry
Take the median and the 10th-to-90th-percentile advertised prices, the distribution of recorded bottle capacities, and the dual/single zone split — each drawn only from the models that carry that field, with the coverage disclosed.
- 03
Cut by size and by brand
Break price down by bottle-capacity band to show price per bottle across the segment, and roll the models up by brand — listing a brand only once it clears the model threshold.
Frequently asked questions
6 questionsWhat is the Fridge.com Wine & Beverage Cooler Index?
It is a dataset of the specialty-cooling segment — wine coolers, beverage coolers, and kegerators — treated as its own market rather than folded into the whole refrigeration catalog. Published by Fridge.com, it covers 1,503 active models from 171 brands and reports the model count, the median advertised price with a 10th-to-90th-percentile range, the bottle-capacity distribution where models record one, the dual-versus-single zone split, price by cellar size, and stated control temperatures.
Where does the data come from?
Every figure is derived from the live Fridge.com catalog: the wine, beverage, and kegerator cooler types, active and publishable. Model counts, prices, and bottle counts are read from each model's own catalog record; zone, temperature, and can figures are read from each maker's own product copy and reported as stated. The segment is distinct — no overlap with the whole-catalog price, energy, or brand indices.
How many models actually record a bottle capacity?
622 of the 1,503 models (41%) carry a recorded bottle count; those are the only models in the bottle-capacity figures. The median is 34 bottles. Kegerators are keg dispensers and carry no bottle count, and some beverage cabinets publish only a can figure — 492 models (33%) state a 12 oz can count, at a median of 110. Where a model records neither, it is left out of that measure, never assigned an estimate.
How many wine coolers are dual-zone?
Of the 612 models that state a temperature-zone configuration in their product copy, 388 are dual-zone and 224 are single-zone — a 63.3% dual-zone share among models that state one. Dual-zone is almost entirely a wine-cooler feature; kegerators state no zone. A further 891 models do not state a zone and are counted as unstated rather than guessed.
Why is price shown as a median and a range rather than one number?
A single average hides how wide the specialty segment runs, from a small counter-top cooler to a built-in cellar. The index reports the median advertised price across 1,472 priced models — $1,029.99 — plus the 10th-to-90th-percentile range ($249–$3,489), so the cheapest and priciest tenth never distort the picture. Only valid advertised prices between $20 and $30,000 count.
How current is the index, and can I download it?
This release, methodology v1.0, reflects the catalog as of July 2026. Prices move with the market, so the figures are a dated snapshot, not live quotes. The full dataset is available as a CSV at https://fridge.com/data/wine-beverage-index/csv, and the method is documented on the page.
