We bought a LG French door refrigerator in thinking it was a great brand, but after a few years it stopped cooling and making ice. We found out that a unit that LG uses only lasts a few years and will have to be replaced frequently after 3-5 years.

My LG Refrigerator

Bought it 3 weeks ago and had some issues related to the waterline and the water from the outside door which is always warmer than expected, which needs to be resolved. Other than that I am very pleased with this model, this is my second LG refrigerator and this one although 1/4 inch smaller than the previous one is more spacious on the inside. It is a bit noisy when making ice at the beginning but we are adjusting to it.

We've only had the new fridge for a week, but we like it very much. Suggestion: We would like it if the water function on the front started out slow for a second or so and then increased to full water flow. As it is, water splashes out of the glass. Could also use a removable try under the water/ice dispenser, as something always drops (ice or water).

Love the ice functions. Wish the bottom draw in the refrigerator part was split in to two separate drawers so you do not have to open both refrigerator doors to access . Love the space in the refrigerator. Just hope it last a long time years and years. We had this one about 4 months.

I have never purchased an LG appliance before. I do enjoy the convenience of the French door refrigerator. The freezer has good sized capacity. Having ice available in two locations is perfect! It was unexpected and disappointing to have my refrigerator fan fail when barely one year old. Fortunately I had purchased the extended warranty coverage and it was repaired in a timely manner by a knowledgeable LG technician. Overall I would recommend this frig. Its roomy and I like the ice on the door feature.

I really like the refrigerator. I love that you can do a systems check on it. Changing the air and water filters is easy and quick. The only problem I have with it is the in-door ice maker overflows then the ice melts outside the bucket and water drops will come out of the door.

The unit works as intended. 4 years into the purchase. The volume is great in both the fridge and the freezer. Tmo is consultant and cold. The only loud part of the unit is when the ice is being made it falls into the bucket. But truly that is the only sami loud thing at all. Quiet and efficient. The app for it connects with no issue to your home unit. Tells you all the info that you may need from testing and seeing how well the unit is working to when you need to replace your filters for both air and water. I just had a error code dh show up. The app allowed me to follow detailed instructions on how to address the issue and what to check to help resolve the issue before calling in support for a true repair. LG reps will walk you through the process as needed. The only down side is finding room for tall bottles or jugs. But there is a bit of juggling and moving things around but it works out in the end. I would recommend this fridge.

Review on LG French Door Refrigerator

I had a Sears Elite French Door Refrigerator with exterior ice maker for 10-12 years. I found out it was made by LG (by the model#). I moved & Left my fabulous Sears Elite with the Buyer (it was white & wanted stainless). We remodeled older home & gutted kitchen Order this refrigerator because of dual icemakers. I purchased 4/2022. Going on year 3 soon. I have total Tech through Best Buy Products in Va. Beach, Va. I plan on buying the month to month coverage also. This was an $2000 investment & warranty getting ready to expire. BTW, the Best Buy employees from Geek Squad seemed to be 50/50 on proper installation. They put a tip plate in the back of stove & drilled into my water line. Had a $535 repair which they finally reimbursed me thru my insurance claim with them. I had to threaten to turn them over to the SCC. State Corporation Commission. The woman handling would not communicate with me by email or after numerous phone calls. The Insurance company claims agent was down right rude by ignoring me.After the report to the SCC. They finally paid & reimbursed my claim. I still have a whole in the back of stove in the dry wall. Im not making a claim as they wore me down. separate you know. Also, Geek Squad installed my microwave incorrectly. After a 9-12 months, I noticed when closing it became lose and moved when I CLOSED IT. I finally got the guy who installed the dishwasher (properly)to come out & take microwave out to find it was just sitting in the whole & not secured down. I would say half of the Geek Squad installers are not trained properly to install major appliances. Its a shame as we are at their MERCY !!

Amazing Fridge

We absolutely love this refrigerator. We bought it, brought it home ourselves, assembled it ourselves and have maintained it ourselves. Water filter is easy to replace, air filter is easy to replace. The stainless finish is beautiful and stays fairly clean, although I wouldn't say it's 100% fingerprint proof. We have had a small issue with ice getting stuck because I use the crushed ice function too much. A simple fix though; change it back to cubed for one cube worth, then back to crushed. This helps dislodge any cubes that may have gotten stuck during the crushed ice process. Other than that, this thing has entry of space, provides more than enough ice and keeps everything perfectly cool. I do wish we could momentarily pause the open door alarm during cleaning or restocking after a grocery run but honestly you get used to it and learn to ignore it. We highly recommend this fridge

This refrigerator has been on my radar since early summer but I waited until my current old one but the dust(unfortunately 3 days before Christmas after holiday grocery shopping!) Immediately went out and bought my new LG model which I love! Was delivered right after Christmas on a “rush” and I am totally satisfied! This model is easy access, perfect temperature controls, water filtration is excellent but most of all it is well designed and quiet! I did my homework and knew exactly what I wanted and LG delivers all my needs!

Love this refrigerator. The layout just works. I've never felt like I had so much space in a refrigerator before and the food stays consistently cold. I'm also a huge fan of the ice system, with a small system in the door, and a larger tray in the freezer drawer below. It also gets serious kudos in the technology department. I'm really loving their mobile app with its diagnostics. It helped me figure out why the ice was melting in my lower freezer. The fact that it also lets me connect and chat with support folks is a real plus too, although the app still needs more work in the bulletproofing department. It is too easy to hit the wrong button and exit/cancel the support session. Also, it times out too quickly. My internet is provided via satellite. Sometimes the signal drops for several seconds, then restores. I turns out that the length of time is sometimes too long for the mobile app, so I have been frustrated multiple times now after spending a long time with a support rep on chat, only to see the connection drop and the session discontinued right before we got things resolved.

Ice/Water dispenser controls

I bought this refrigerator December 2022. Overall this machine is great! It should deserve 5 stars, but I degraded it to because of the door controls. We have found that trying to change the water dispenser to ice is sometimes difficult. The current function has the indicator light (once panel is activated) on for the current dispensing function. Trying to press the new desired function, many times takes some searching. Many times missing, requiring a pressing search for the right spot! Newbies to the refrigerator will many times press above the indicator light row changing the temp controls, which may go a long time without being noticed. This can be a problem. The screen lock, locks all the buttons on the screen. Suggested solution: It would be nice if the system control buttons could be locked separately from the dispenser controls.

This refrigerator is amazing! We have had it now for a couple of years and it has been running like a champion. We have 4 kids and we needed something that was spacious and functional and we got that with this refrigerator. Large turkey in a pan for Xmas this thing can hold it and still have space. We do a lot of cooking and all the vegetables meats and etc always come out fresh! I would definitely recommend!

It’s so easy to maneuver finding things due to the space, shelves, drawers and the controlled cooling with no areas that freeze the lettuce etc. Fantastic product! The water in the door is new to me too. We already have a filter for our well water, yet the water from the fridge still tastes better than the tap. Also, the "finger proof " stainless steel is much easier to clean than expected.

We took delivery of this refrigerator in January 2022. To date we have had no mechanical or electrical problems or disappointments. It is very quiet and holds a consistent temperature in both fridge and freezer. The shelves are sturdy and easy to move. This is my first refrigerator with an ice maker. Everyone warned me that all ice makers break. So far so good with that! The black stainless steel finish peeled away in one small area but I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there is a lifetime warranty on that and the door was replaced within 2 weeks. I think it may have been caused when the door handle was put back on at the time of delivery. It left the slightest scuff in the finish and that is where it started peeling. No other areas are showing signs of peeling to date. The black stainless steal finish is beautiful. My kitchen gets A LOT of sunlight and I am happy to report that fingerprints and other smudges disappear with a gentle wipe with a soft cloth.

With the ice maker in the door of the fridge it leaves so much more room. With this feature food does not freeze when placed near the ice maker like it did with our other fridge with the ice maker taking up the space in the fridge. Love the way I can see how its running with the wi-fi app. Never have i had a fridge that is soo quiet when running compared to others I've owned. Over all very pleased with our purchase thus far

The exterior water and ice delivery works great along with the modern “look” and additional features made our decision an easy one. Included three ice making alternatives (door cubes, door crushed, and freezer dropped ice cube maker, we never have to bring out the old “ice trays”). We were able to use the holiday (July 4th) discount offered, including installation and hauling away the old unit for a very satisfying experience. We expect this unit to work well into the future!

For the most part I really like the refrigerator, however, we had to have the ice maker repaired shortly after we purchased as a part came loose and leaked water. That was repaired and so far no more problems with that. But we recently had to have the fan motor assembly replaced as the fan was failing. That has been repaired, so far so good. other than that, the refrigerator works well and I like the reminders to change the filters that this has.

Refrigerator has a good layout, and the water dispenser is a great design. This one allows you to see where the water comes out of the tube, and is recessed slightly so you aren't spilling water all over the floor. The ice maker in the door needs to be used frequently or the ice forms into a single block that must be broken up. But, since we don't use ice that much, I simply get the containers in the door and freezer filled up, then turn off the ice makers. I love the second ice maker in the freezer since door makers are known for not lasting. We shall see how these hold up. The adjustable split shelves are super nice to accommodate those awkward sized items, but not make your entire fridge length subject to the shelf adjustment. The door shelves behind the ice maker are big enough to store things other than small hot sauce bottles, unlike other fridges we looked at, so that is a nice feature. The air filter in the back has a cover on it that is crooked. We noticed that in the model at the store, too, so this is just poor design. It is also a pain to reach and take off. I wish the motor was a little quieter. When the fridge kicks on, it makes this electrical hum noise, and the filling of the ice makers is very loud as well. The ThinQ app seems rather purposeless. I guess if you have someone who abuses the fridge, you can use it as evidence against them since the app records how many times the fridge has been opened. Overall, the amount of space in the fridge and freezer is great for us, front surfaces are easy to clean, and I am hoping this lasts for many years to come. Fingers crossed.

Review of LFXS26973S. Works well. Ice makers are great. The bad-the front surface of the frig is reportedly stainless steel. It dents very easily. No matter how careful you are, the front of the frig scratches despite following the manufacturers recommendations for cleaning. LG was contacted and will not do anything about it. Also, the frig only connects to the 2.4 ghz. Difficult to connect and I have only been able to connect if I do not use the secure setting.

At a high level, it’s good for its features (Model LFXS26973S) and works fine and is relatively quiet. My pet peeves are related to things like the right door closing as you have to push the door closed. I wish there was a tension adjustment. Also, the center drawer is not very deep, and you have to open both doors to open it. Door adjustments are ok, but limited to a couple of changes. Freezer is good and like the capacity.

The refrigerator has had several problems in the 2.5 years we have owned it. First, the in-door ice maker stopped working within the first 6 months. Then, the freezer door stopped opening all the way. Then, the air filter cover inside the fridge broke and won’t stay in place - then plastic was too flimsy and when I tried to put it back on after changing the filter, the int piece of flimsy plastic that holds it in place snapped off.

We have had the refrigerator a couple of years. It runs fine. Ice from icemaker appears to have particles in the it. Not sure what it is, may be small ice pellets or something else. We have changed the filter and even installed a separate filter at the wall but still have this issue. If I were buying another, I would probably not get the French doors. Items tend to get cluttered in the bottom freezer drawer. Two tall side by side doors would be better in my opinion.

Filters were changed and water line cleaned out and water softener checked. LG claims this is normal. My LG refrigerator in my main house does not do that to the same extent.

Error code comes up, you lose use of control panel

Its a solid good refrigerator, but when something goes wrong, even if it is something that can be fixed later because the fridge still works, if an error code pops up on the door display, you can no longer program your fridge and freezer temps or use the water or the ice. This is really a terrible flaw that needs to get fixed. Thanks.

There is little remarkable, and the product is average. The top ice maker seems to leak in warm air and often the ice melts enough to clump up and get stuck, requiring me to open the door and break it up to get it working again. Fortunately, the bottom drawer ice maker pumps out ice in abundance. The bottom of the refrigerator doors are poorly designed, with the bottom shelves not lifted so that the meat and cheese drawer can open underneath them, an important consideration when the unit is against a wall and one of the doors cannot open all the way. The bottom drawer of the fridge is too shapplow and the clear front cover does not lift up, making it very difficult to get at things in the back of the drawer. The materials feel light and cheap, but so do most fridges now. Hopefully the unit will last, and reliability will be a selling point.

The look of the refrigerator is great! I have really enjoyed the French doors and the pull out freezer with the ice cube bucket. It's much better than our old side by side. However we have had several problems with our ice maker since we first bought the refrigerator. This week the compressor went out in the entire unit. Thankfully covered under the 5 year warranty, but disappointed that a 3 year old refrigerator has already have 4 maintenance calls.

The overall design of the LG fridge looks really good, however the lmside door space is limited and having to remember to pull the shelves out from the bottom is something just to get use to. Overall, the product is generally really good. The one issue, which we learned over the weekend, is that the door sensor alarm does NOT go off if the freezer is a bit open (kid thought they shut it with stuff sticking up). Lots of defrosted items and frost on everything. Would be good to improve the sensor on this. The app could also use a lot of improvement. Links to part #'s for the air and water filter replacements seem like obvious additions. I shut off the push notifications, as I'm sure there's a lot of stuff I don't care about, so I have no idea if the app would have warned me (fridge does a good job of this anyway).

Flawed in many ways

I purchased this refrigerator through AJ Madison in November of 2018, writing this review 9/29/2022. These are my issues: 1. Ice tray always condensates causing freezer burn and cubes sticking together 2. You cannot adjust the shelves at all. You can remove a shelf and then adjust the one next to it, but you cannot stagger shelves because the slots can't accommodate a top shelf support next to a bottom shelf support. Major design flaw 3. Regardless of whether the water filter is brand new (flushed through as directed,) the water smells and tastes dirty. 4. Items on the top shelf freeze. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed. I'm remodeling my kitchen and will be replacing this refrigerator with another manufacturer entirely. I have been an appliance buyer for a kitchen and bath dealership for years and will no longer recommend LG for major appliances to my clients.

I would not recommend this LG refrigerator to anyone. The ice makers alone make it a poor purchase. The ice maker tied to the water dispenser has essentially been unusable from the start because it leaks. We stopped using it entirely because of the constant mess. The second ice maker in the bottom freezer is just as bad. Instead of making usable ice, it regularly turns into a solid mound of frozen ice that has to be chipped out. This refrigerator is only two years old, which makes the issues even more frustrating. For a major appliance at this price point, I expected basic features like ice makers to work reliably. They do not. Save yourself the hassle and look at other brands. I regret this purchase.

3 Issues in the first 4 1/2 years

I have had my appliance for about 4 1/2 years. By around year 2, they already had to come out twice. One for peeling finish on the refrigerator and one for the same issue with the dishwasher. Recently they came out (after warranty ) as the refrigerator and freezer failed. It was the condenser that went out. Apparently this is common with that item. I purchased all of my appliances through LG as it is a reputable company. I will choose another brand when mine are replaced.

Loud motor knocking, frozen insulation shifting

Purchased the unit in 2020 without the extended warranty. I relied on the high reputation of LG to produce a high quality product. I was wrong. Certain parts were color mismatched. The linear might knocks, and the right side refrigerator door makes sounds as though there is a shifting ice buildup on the inside and letting loose with an occasional crack. The motor knocking and ice shifting and cracking sounds happening at all hours of the day and night were not what I expected to happen. EVER.

Stopped working after 7 months

After just 7 months the refrigerator stopped working. It began to develop excessive condensation which over a period of two weeks dripped into the air ducts and froze. The technician had to disassemble the entire interior space to defrost the frozen ducts. This fixed the problem, but likely only temporarily because the root cause was not found. My advice is don’t buy an LG.

umm... so far I have doubts if I got the right refrigerator. Almost 3 weeks and one of the upper doors is not closing well. We have to push it because is it not able to close "automatically". Several times we have found the door open. In the other hand, although we followed all the steps to "clarify" the water, I mean, we had throw away the first two or three bins of ice, as well as more than 3 gallons of water, it tasted very bad. AT mornings, it is very bad. We are using the same line of water with the previous refrigerator, and also it was assured that the filter is new, so we are not understanding what happen.

The warranty was upheld but the repair process left me living out of coolers for over a week each time. The claim process for food reimbursement is fairly easy and upheld, but again took too long to be resolved.

Repairs Needed Too Soon

I bought the refrigerator less than 2 years ago. I unit stopped cooling and freezing. The cost to repair it was 1/5 of the cost of the unit originally. For a unit to not work after less than 2 years is unacceptable. I will not be purchasing another LG product. This was very disappointing.

Died after 22 months

Nice fridge when it works. The compressor died after only 22 months, and the main cooling fan blew a bearing and needed to be replaced. Not a great lifespan for a very expensive fridge.

Major Disappointment!!

Big Disappointment! Fridge is barely 3 months old and stopped cooling! Took 9 days before a repair man was able to show up and replace a part (fan). Yet the cooling portion of the fridge still isn’t working despite a 2nd trip to replace yet another part. Unsatisfactory product!!

I like the 2 ice makers, if the worked

The unit has a broken upper ice tray. No way can we get a replacement in Hawaii. We tried to fix but it kept breaking. No other Refrig has done that. The bottom ice maker in freezer kept melting the cubes in the ice tray.

I bought a floor model with a dent to save some money because I am on a limited income. The freezer did not seal and it looked like it had snowed daily. Last night the right door fell off. So far I am not impressed.

Disappointing

It's a beautiful refrigerator with lots of room, however, I continue to get an error message that no one seems to be able to help me with. I have been getting this message almost daily since the refrigerator was installed. IF E will not stop re-appearing. I have changed the filter, I have defrosted the frig. I have unplugged it and restarted. I have consulted the manual and called the manufacturer. Still happening. While this message is on there is no ice or water frustrating.

Poor Design

Poor design... I've owned for 2 yrs now so I know. Items get lost easily in this refrigerator. You end up digging through looking for things, taking things in and out trying to find stuff. The WORST part is the filter housing, it's made of crap plastic and can break easily when installing the water filter... happened to me this morning. You think the filter went in only to find your fridge is flooded with water.

Looks great but be weary

I purchased this in April 2023 and while we like the look and size of the fridge we already had to have it repaired 5 months in after the evap fan went out and we lost all food inside. Super disappointed since it’s a brand new fridge. I’m concerned about the longevity of the product. We also have never been able to get the “smart” technology to work. No matter what we do it won’t connect to our Wi-Fi.

Compressor failed multiple times

This fridge has a known compressor issue. LG replaced the compressor when it totally burned out. Since then the fridge has stopped cooling/ making ice. The fridge has been fixed and stopped working several times. I wanted to love it so badly because of all the amazing features. The reason for two stars is because while the fridge never worked well, LG has decent customer service.

I paid extra for the black stainless coating and the coating is chipping in less than a months. I can only manage how bad it will in the years to come. STAY AWAY!

Water tastes awful LG won't fix it

I bought an LG fridge on 4/15. I called on 4/30 after following instructions to dispense 2 gallons of water, because the water has a chemical taste. After multiple calls, they had me call a local technician who it took 2 weeks to come out to fix the water taste. With 2 1/2 more weeks they replaced the water reservoir, and still water tastes bad. After additional calls, a new water line, a new filter, and still water tastes like chemicals. They still insist, just do this or that. I want this fixed! So frustrating. My neighbor has same fridge and their water is fine.

I month after expired warranty

The ice maker in the door quit working after the 1 year warranty expired. I purchased this LG model per the reviews I researched but now I wonder if I made a mistake. I am hopping LG will do the right thing and help me get this fixed.

I purchased my refrigerator 9-1-2020 since then I’ve replaced The compressor twice and as I am authoring this review the motherboard has to be replaced. I advise all my family and friends to NEVER purchase an LG REFRIGERATOR.

A silver lemon

I am extremely disappointed to date, the ice maker on the door I don't use because it literally throws ice at you, and ice always gets trapped in the shoot and leaks, I've had it for 3 years and in April it stop making ice and the bottom freezer is not maintaining its cooling temp or freezing temp. I've had repair men come 3 x's and they failed to fix it because they couldn't figure out what was wrong, now they say it may be the compressor, I had to wait on parts again and the repairman stated the wrong parts that was delivered was LG's fault not his. I am still waiting, Service has been even worse then the refrigerator I have been without my refrigerator working properly since April today was the day for the final repair and they canceled again. I'm not happy with the refrigerator at this point nor with the extended service, I want a new refrigerator period for my trouble and anguish.

Water tastes horable

All plastic bins have cracked and the freezer drawer broke and cracked as well. All bins had to be replaced after a few years. Cheap!! Buy another brand!!

Run. Run as fast as you can. The only thing worse than LG appliances is the service you will get when something goes wrong. Make sure you have the BBB on speed dial if you make the mistake of buying one of these. Make sure you get an itemized receipt from the place you purchase it, not just one that says "LG kitchen appliance bundle". They'll use this to try and weasel out of any responsibility for their trash products. They'll send someone out to fix your refrigerator. That will take a month. Your refrigerator will work for a week. If you're lucky. Repeat this like 3 times. That's the cliff notes version of your experience opening one of these products. Products are utter garbage.When LG support asked for a review, I said the camera was the best feature of my refrigerator. That’s because it doesn't have one, and therefore cannot break. That explains everything you need to know about why I wouldn't recommend someone buy an LG. Read more
