  1. Great Choice in Refrigerator

    I needed a refrigerator right away as our Samsung freezer part quit working. Also needed it in white as I have an all white kitchen. There were not many choices in white that is readily available. So happy I went with this refrigerator. It looks very nice in the kitchen instead of the huge bulky one we had.

    Luckily our old fridge went out during black Friday season and we were able to get a great deal. This side by side is well worth the price we paid. I am pleased and have no complaints. Great refrigerator.

    The refrigerator is fine. Miss not having a deli drawer though. I wouldn't say it's loud, but it's definitely not quiet. I have a small house, my living room and kitchen are one big room, so I do hear the refrigerator at times. It seems to be louder at times than other times.

    We've only had the refrigerator for a week. Bought it because it was the only refrigerator we could find in bisque color. All of our other kitchen appliances are this color. We didn't want black, white or stainless. It is a very basic unit. We've purchased an extra door shelf and main shelf. Wish it had a middle drawer for sheese and sandwich meat.

    This model replaces the same unit I have had for many years. I have noticed that this new unit does not make as much ice as the old unit did. The new cubes are larger and take longer to replenish. Some changes to the shelving and they seem to better and easier to clean.

    We bought this refrigerator two weeks ago and really enjoy it. We can open one door instead of having to open two doors at one time. You had to make sure on our refrigerator to shut it just right. The left door had to fit into its slot before you could shut the right door. I also like the numerous shelves for placing foods in. I had a Maytag with a freezer at the bottom. I found that the freezer at the bottom wasted a lot of space! Really pleased with our purchase!

  59. Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator/freezer

    My previous Whirlpool refrigerator had started to decline. It just wasn't keeping the contents as cool as it should have, and foods were "going bad" quickly. I replaced it with a similar side by side refrigerator/freezer. It was delivered, lines were hooked up, and so far (knock on wood) everything is working just fine. I miss the extra drawer that my previous refrigerator had that I kept meats and cheeses in, but I have found ways of adapting. I have to say that my previous refrigerator was twenty plus years old and we had problems with the freezer side from the get-go. They finally replaced the freezer door (wouldn't replace the whole appliance); despite that, we had twenty very good years of service from this appliance. So with that in mind, I decided to stay with the Whirlpool brand. I checked ratings and it is better rated than most brands. I hope to have many good years with this one.

    This frig was close to what i had. However there is less room because the ice machine is so massive. The frig has no deli drawer. The interior back was dented but not punctured. However i did get it quickly and the price was better than others. Hopi g it last for YEARS.

    I have had my new side by side for a little over a week.I like it fine. So much more room inside, than I had in my French door fridge. The only thing I'm not crazy about, is the new refrigerator is noisier than the one I had. It sits right next to my dishwasher in my kitchen, and every time I go in there I wonder who started the dishwasher. The fridge.just.normally running, and the dishwasher.when IT is running, make exactly the same sound.

    Freezer freezes and fridge cools. The shelves and drawers are adequate. Construction material is so lightweight that you cannot open the door if there is nothing inside to weigh the unit down. Honestly, until you weight it down with a lot of food and drinks, you must push against the freezer door to open fridge door; otherwise, you'll move the entire unit. Good news is the wheels work well and don't damage flooring.

    This refrigerator came with my new build and I am generally pleased with it. The ice maker/water dispenser works well and the storage capacity in both the refrigerator and freezer is adequate. I do feel the shelf holders on the fridge door are a bit flimsy and I had to actually only put very light items in one because it kept falling off. Also, I have an issue with the refrigerator door swinging open very fast and banging into the wall. It seems like something needs to be tightened to slow it but I have yet been unable to figure out.

    My 18 year old GE side-by-side refrigerator died so I had to get a new refrigerator quickly and all GE side-by-sides were not available for next day delivery. I found this Whirlpool side-by-side that is slightly smaller than my old refrigerator and could be delivered the next day so really didn't have a choice and bought it sight unseen. I'm not crazy about the shiny white cabinet and door handles that easily show fingerprints and dirt. My old refrigerator was textured so hid that mostly. The lighting in this refrigerator is AMAZING compared to my old refrigerator and everything is well lit but it is also not as full of food as my previous refrigerator used to be so time will tell on that. I'm still not sure if I like the glass shelves that are only framed in plastic on the sides and don't go all the way to the back of the refrigerator. I'm waiting for something small to fall through the crack at the back. The documentation (both that came with the refrigerator (very minimal) and what I could find online (formatting is TERRIBLE!)) for the temperature controls is very confusing. I finally figured it out but after I got the refrigerator temperature set to "ideal" I checked the refrigerator temp yesterday and it was 32 degrees Fahrenheit (that is freezing temp) so reset it to be one setting warmer than "ideal" and will see how that works out. The freezer temp is set at also what is recommended and is showing about 3-4 degrees Fahrenheit which is well below freezing. My old refrigerator had a meat drawer that I kept for lunch meat and bread plus two fruit & vegetable drawers. Since this refrigerator does not have a meat drawer I use the bottom fruit/vegetable drawer for meat/bread and that seems to be working out okay so far. Both drawers are smaller than my previous refrigerator because of the expanded size of the shelves on the door. At first I wasn't crazy about the deeper refrigerator door shelves. With my old refrigerator I would grab hold of the door shelf and pull to shut the door. I tried that without thinking on this refrigerator's empty shelves but the shelf came off in my hand and slid across the kitchen floor. But now with the shelves loaded with jars, bottles and cans I don't worry about that as much but I am still careful when I use the shelf to close the door. After using this refrigerator for a few weeks I find that I really like the deep door shelves because they hold a LOT more than my previous refrigerator and what I want is easier to find than when it is stuck at the back of a shelf in the refrigerator. The ice maker is HUGE compared to my old refrigerator and takes up the whole top of the freezer. I do love the ice cubes although I'm not crazy about the separate water & ice dispensers and the ice dispenser takes some force to get it to work with my soft plastic container that I use to get ice cubes. I looked online before the refrigerator arrived to see what the ice cube shape would be and it said "crescent" (same as my old one) but they are about 1 inch squares that taper slightly on the sides. They don't fit my old kombucha bottles that I was using for ice water but was able to buy new water bottles with wide mouths which are so fast and easy to load with these square ice cubes. Where the door shelves in the refrigerator are deep the freezer door shelves are much shallower than my old refrigerator and don't hold much of anything. But the freezer shelves and lighting are much better than my old one so it seems that I can hold a lot more food in this one. Time will tell how this refrigerator holds up but so far I am happy with the change from my old refrigerator!

I can’t figure out ice maker settings, there are 5 styles and the manual doesn’t show what style I have and black and white illustrations are poor. The manual doesn’t have instructions for the front access panel. They are written selfishly and shows laziness; go an extra mile, make it more intuitive, colorful.

    Nice Whirlpool update on a classic design. We've used Whirlpool frigs for 40 years and they are reliable with great functionality. This one is similar to past examples with some updates - the new handles are more attractive and interior lighting is better. The ice maker takes up more space in the freezer than the old version, but also looks to have more capacity. The bigger bins on the doors allow for more storage in the door than before. The old plastic facia on the bottom has been replaced and improved - it was always difficult to get the plastic one back in place. The shelves versus bins in the freezer is a plus and minus. lack of bins in the freezer caused us to have to buy some aftermarket bins, but exact fit bins were easy to find.

    A few things that caused me to rate this the way I did. 1)The refrigerator has a vibration hum when running. I have repositioned it several times and have been able to reduce substantially the vibration noise. This refrigerator is louder than the previous Whirlpool we had. 2) The lack of a deli/meat tray was something we overlooked when reviewing this refrigerator. I would have purchased the upgraded model that did include this feature. It is blaringly lacking a place to keep cold cuts, meats and cheeses.

    This is my third whirlpool refrigerator and I got this one because the last one died. It was delivered in three days which I am truly grateful. This model is not as fancy as my last one but it is working well and meets my needs. The main feature which I miss is that the last one had the ice bucket in the door which gave me one extra shelf. But it suits my needs. I got a whirlpool because it is usually reliable and I did not have any issues with my last one until it died.

    The extra lighting has been an improvement over the old one it replaced as well as the ice maker. One of the reasons we chose this model was the large ice hopper that can be used to fill large ice buckets or small cooler. A lot of the models we looked at has what was advertised as thin line in door units with not much reserve ice. Also like the large square cubes. The high pressure sales pitch given when registering the fridge was a bit much and a little decieving as most pitches are, with the guy on the phone leaving out a lot of critical info and not taking no for an answer.

    Bought this as a second refrigerator. Whirlpool based on excellent experience with previous 2nd refrigerator, also a Whirlpool, which we used for 28 years. At first glance, the new refrigerator is a more basic version of what we had -- which is fine for our purposes -- while we had expected a bit more from Whirlpool. Specifically, lack of a drawer in the upper/middle part of the refrigerator, typically used to store smaller items, is a noticeable miss. The freezer is also noticeably smaller due to lack of shelves in the upper part of the door, and also due to lack of a quick-freeze shelf. None of this is a showstopper, especially, for a second refrigerator, but had expected bit more from Whirlpool designers. It's a pretty basic refrigerator which seems OK, otherwise.

    I reviewed my new whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator a few months ago. I own all whirlpool appliances (four all told). This refrigerator replaced the one that faithfully served us for 21 years. It has many shortcomings. The three most noticeable are the high noise level (I had to install sound deadening on two walls to quiet it. Second, the ice cube maker is massive and takes up a fifth of the freezer. I removed it and bought ice cube trays. Third, and the worst, is that on the recommended temperature setting (there are only four settings) much of what’s in the refrigerator freezes and spoils. If I set it a notch lower, everything in the freezer melts. I would not buy this model again. I notice that my son’s Whirlpool refrigerator has the same problem. There are many features I like, which I reviewed in an earlier post.

    I bought this as a replacement for my 18 year old GE that had finally decided to die. While it is pretty nice for a mid range appliance there are some shortcomings. 1. No under shelf drawers. I had to purchase an aftermarket drawer that clips on under the shelf for ease of access. The bottom drawers are low and not very convenient. 2: No humidity control on the drawers. my old GE had this feature which made it easier to have a dry storage drawer. 3. No drawer temp control. Another feature my GE had that enabled me to control the temp of the bottom drawer as it can get colder than the rest of the box. 4. It has developed a loud buzzing noise while running. I had to open a warranty case for this noise. Turns out that the cold air circulation fan in the freezer compartment has developed this issue where as it runs it get louder and louder. The fan is mounted with clip in mounts to the bracket holding it with is not stable and doesn't seem very sturdy. I haven't gotten the parts replaced yet but am unsure if this will be a lasting repair. Why wasn't a screw based mounting with rubber vibration isolation used? Ease of assembly at the cost of reliable noise and vibration reduction. 5. Ice and water controls. The water dispenser actuator switch is in front of the ice dispenser actuator. If you aren't really careful when using the ice dispenser, you my trigger the water dispenser and then water streams out over the front of the freezer door and sometimes a poorly place pant leg or worse a bare leg. My old GE had the water and ice dispensers through the door as well but side by side. much more user friendly. The appliance seems to be functional. I don't feel it will last more than 7 to 10 years. It is a fair value for the money.

    The overall size is nice, big enough to fit a lot of items. The design of the water/ice dispenser is horrible. The water lever is in front of the ice and easy to tap causing water to splash everywhere when you are trying to dispense the ice. Ice dispenser freezes over constantly and doesn't dispense ice. We've been having to grab ice by hand from inside the freezer. I enjoy my whirlpool appliances but would suggest passing on this particular model.

    I have three issues with this fridge but just haven't been able to ask for maintenance to come. 1) The refrigerator is louder (when it is in normal operating mode). 2) The ice dispenser on the unit dispenses ice in your cup/container and on the floor. 3) When dispensing ice the water button gets engaged thus putting water in the drip tray and down the front of the refridgerator.

    Icemaker is slow making ice very small ice tray, and the water dispenser is to close to ice dispenser so you have to be careful when getting ice because it’s easy to hit both with a larger cup and it makes a mess. The refrigerator is a sis by side and there’s not a lot of room. Parts are plastic easily broken. Within 5 weeks of owning the whole freezer and refrigerator went down due to a computer part which Whirlpool took care of same day. Customer service is good.

    The best part about it was the two guys that delivered it and took away my old one. They were excellent and so nice. I give them a 5-Star!! I'm having problems of getting used to the door on the right. Whenever I open it, it seems to swing open and then hit the cabinet. I try to catch it before it gets there, but that doesn't work. I'm also not happy about how expensive the ice and water filter is. I guess I'm too used to my old fridge and wishing I would have kept it. I'm a widow, but my son comes over and helps me if I need something.

    I bought this a few weeks ago and it works fine but I don't like it as much as my previous Whirlpool of similar design. It runs a little noisier, the water dispenser is so tall that you need two hands to fill even at all glass, space in the freezer is not as great, and the drawers in the fridge wobble a bit when opening and closing. Also you only get four discreet temperature settings in the fridge rather than a dial that lets you control the temperature setting more to what you like. I'm getting used to the smooth outside surface but it does show water stains and fingerprints a bit more than the textured surface I had on my last refrigerator. So far though, it works well.

    After a few weeks, I am not pleased with this refrigerator. The lack of any accurate way to control the temperatures of the main fridge and the freezer is just not adequate. With the 3rd setting, the temps are nearly 32 degrees in the fridge, and water freezes; at the 2nd setting, the temps are over 40, which is not safe. The freezer, similarly, is either below zero, or nearly 10 degrees with miniscule changes in the sliding bar. Any modern fridge should have an accurate digital thermometer to regulate temps. There is no adjustment possible for the shelves (or enough shelves) in the main compartment or the freezer, very inefficient storge and poor access. The water dispenser is not tall enough to accomoate a water bottle. I didn't have a real choice . my old refrigerator died and I had to take what was in stock. I certainly wish I had selected differently.

    Very bad fridge. Ice maker is awful. Fan in back of fridge cannot be fixed or drained. It is very poor qualify. Items in fridge get too cold or do not cool at all. Appliance repair during warranty warned about the poor quality and poor back fan design. To boot you have to climb on a step stool or ladder if you are under 5 feet 7 inches tall, to remove ice maker tray and shut the buttom on top of inside fridge if you want ice to stop makinf, lets say you leave on vacation. Horrid design

    I had to wait about two months for this side by side due to needing a specific color. The delivery was excellent but the build quality of this refrigerator is far below Whirlpool Standards of my other Whirlpool appliances. The side by side doors are approximately 1/2" misaligned vertically and two shelves were not included with the refrigerator from the factory. One shelf on the refrigerator side and one shelf from the freezer side.

It’s so cold that when I turn it up to the ideal temperature it’s still freezing mayonnaise! My Old Frigidaire didn’t do this, but the new Frigidaire models won’t fit into the spot in my kitchen.

    This is the loudest refrigerator I or anyone I've known has ever had, and it's within its first year of service. An 8yr old Electrolux is quieter, a 1yr old GE runs quieter, and even a Samsung runs quieter - and they were all cheaper than this one. I do not recommend this model to anyone looking to purchase a new refrigerator. In addition to the noise, the water dispenser spurts at the end of each dispenser, causing water stains down the face of the fridge.

    I had a whirlpool refrigerator for almost 18 years before this new one . The new one is TWICE as loud as the old one . The new one was at 53 decibels from a foot away and you can feel the kitchen floor buzzing while standing on it 5 feet away .

    The product makes a loud humming noise almost constantly, loud enough to be heard from the living room. It's enough to drive me batty at times. If quiet operation is important for you, do not purchase this fridge.

    This refrigerator came with my new townhome. I am not happy that the water filtration does not take the chlorine taste out of the water. I am back to buying bottled water. I will probably just sell this and buy a new GE fridge. Sorry.

    Builder provided this fridge as part of an incentive package. Very non-functional and short on space in both fridge and freezer. Controls are not easy to use and manuals are pitiful. Not worth half of what the builder claims to have paid for it.

    As a fridge and freezer this unit worked fine. As an ice and water dispenser it quickly, on day three, revealed its fatal flaw, drippage from that dispenser. Apparently that's not at all an uncommon problem for water/ice dispensers, especially in humid climates like Hawaii.

    I cannot figure out the temperature for the fridge. Things are either freezing or too warm. I tried everything. The ice maker is very loud & is too slow we always run out of ice it could never keep up. The fridge door swings right up open hitting the cabinet behind it.

    What a piece of junk. After two weeks, the icemaker no longer works. The temperature settings in the main fridge are a joke. The "ideal" setting is below freezing and everything in the fridge ices up. The next warmer setting is in the 40's, which is unsafe. Don't buy this fridge. Maybe don't buy Whirlpool.

    I bought this & I am sorry I did! The first one was SO NOISY that I had to have them come back & take it away! The second delivery driver said that these are known to be sitting around in warehouses so long that they get moved around a lot. The second one still makes a noise but not as much as the 1st one. So BEWARE!

    The ice maker and water dispenser are not deep enough for a glass to go under. And the water dispenser is in front of the ice dispenser so it is so easy to hit the water dispenser and water goes all down the fridge and on the floor. This is not a good setup!!

    This appliance was included with a recent new construction home acquisition, but following the move-in, I noticed the super loud noise of this fridge. It is so bad I will end up replacing it. Don't buy it unless you want a super loud condenser.

    It's concerning to me that Whirlpool sends review requests for products that are only 2 weeks old. Then after another week sends out reminders to review their products. Should I be worried about the product not lasting? Just saying, you want honest reviews wait for a year or even 5 years. Best I can do for now is say they look great and still work after a whole month. How can someone honestly recommend a product after a month?

    This refrigerator functions fine, it serves its purpose of cooling and freezing our food. I would not purchase this refrigerator again. The number one irritation is after using the in door water dispenser, water trickles down the door leaving a stream of water and eventually a water mark/stain down the front of the refrigerator. I know this is not an isolated issue because my daughter has the same fridge and her refrigerator has the same leaking habit. The second issue is the ice maker does not keep up whatsoever. We are a family of three and there is no reason I should have to purchase ice to refrigerator supplement during the week. Also there is no storage space in freeze the door across from the ice maker because it is so large. I have this large ice maker that doesn't keep up with the ice?? My older fridge of 25 years kept up perfectly. The third frustrating feature, or lack there of, is when you open the door to the ice maker, it will not stay up. I know it is possible to make an ide make where the door will stay propped open as my prior fridge had an ice maker where the door stayed open. It is too bad you can't just return a refrigerator like you can a small appliance because this one would be back instantly!

    I have always been a die-hard Whirlpool fan, however not anymore. New refrigerator kept humming; it can be heard in the next room. Repair man replaced the evaporator fan motor, but when humming continued, he said it was just the refrigerator and that Whirlpool would not do anything else, because technically, the refrigerator is working.

    Ongoing issues with the ice and water dispenser. Ice cubes will unknowingly get caught in the dispenser and then melt, causing water to run down the front of the freezer door and onto the floor! This is nit only ruining the stainless steel door due to hard water (which obviously isn’t being addressed with the water filter that is changed at recommended intervals) but is now ruining the tile floor and has caused a slipping hazard! Also, food items placed on the top shelf of the refrigerator closest to the freezer side freeze, despite the refrigerator being set at the “Ideal” temperature setting.

    We’ve had this fridge for about 15 months. The ice machine makes a super loud sound often. A technician came to check it and said the ice builds up in the back and that’s what causes the sound. We have been woken up in the middle night by the loud sound and we have to disconnect the fridge. Luckily we have a deep freezer otherwise, our frozen food would have gone to waste.
