Great side bybside

We just replaced ours with the same size and model, but a few new features. We were limited on size to get it through the front door and doorways an old bungalow style. We had to remove the doors to get it inside. Most is the same, but short deli drawer - we miss and it is very slow making ice. No quick ice. The other one lasted us 23years. The side for jar and bottle is a little smaller. Had to use compartments to hold jars. I know when we buy GE I can count of it being a work horse, their products stand up with time.

I recently purchased the GE GSS25GGPWW refrigerator and absolutely love it. It was an excellent replacement for my 17 year old Whirlpool , that up and died. This refrigerator has all the conveniences of the old on plus a couple extra. The capacity is more than enough, the interior lighting is just right, though the freezer compartment could use an extra light, as I don’t think one is enough. The shelves are adequate, the crisper and deli drawers are easy to see into, the water filter is very accessible and the ice maker/water dispenser is well above average. I really appreciate the digital temperature readout for the freezer and refrigerator compartments. Overall I rate this product a buy with a caveat: always purchase a warranty extension plan for this type of appliance, as they can fail after the factory warranty has expired.

My second review. I guess the first one was a little too informative. We moved to this GE side-by-side fridge after having so much trouble with another brand that has the letters LNG in the name. So far we’re liking this new fridge a lot. It does not have a deli drawer, which is super odd and the Dispenser LEDs. Don’t indicate what selection is chosen in the dark. That’s a little tricky, but otherwise the fridge is a good fit. I like the side-by-side design the freezer stays at a steady zero energy consumption appears to be reasonable overall, I think this is a fine fridge. I have a hard time recommending only because we’ve only had the thing less than a week.

We bought this fridge to replace 2019 fridge of the same model. I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because we realized that it only has 2 drawers in the fridge instead of 3 on the older model. Also the ice maker was stuck on crushed ice. It came out as dust. Through YouTube we were able to push a lever that was stuck, so now we have ice cubes. Everything else works good. Our repair guy recommended this model, so we stuck with it.

I love the capacity of the refrigerator side, but could use more room on the freezer side. Maybe more shelves? I DO love the dual control/water and ice window in the freezer door. But am disappointed i have to wait 24 hours to get my first tub of ice cubes. ( then I gotta throw it away)

I bought this fridge specifically for its storage capacity and shelving. It has space on the shelves for food prep items, eggs, drinks and taller items. The door capacity allows me store all my condiments and milk to keep my interior free for every thing else. The freezer has ample storage space for a small family. It keeps my food at the perfect temperature, is convenient and looks great. I love the finger print resistant stainless front too!

I really like that this has adjustable shelves on the refrigerator side. It also has shelves in the freezer section which is much better than the type that have the drawer that opens at the bottom where everything just gets stacked on top of each other. So far I am extremely pleased with this purchase. I also like the fact that the temperature controls are on the front, digital, and seem to be pretty exact regarding the temperature set point. The only thing I wish it had would be one more drawer on the refrigeration side. Otherwise everything fits perfectly. I was even able to put a leftover extra large pizza flat on the refrigerator shelf.

Have been enjoying our new larger capacity side by side refrigerator for a couple of weeks now. We upgraded from a 20 cf to a 25 cf. The real test will come next week when we do our monthly grocery shopping and have the extra room for for storage, especially for frozen items.

This fridge is fantastic! Everything works as it should; the shelves and compartments are sturdy and well thought out, and both the refrigerator and freezer maintain the set temperatures as desired. The ice maker is not freezing up and makes a nice amount of ice cubes. The water dispenser provides pleasantly cool water to drink. I would definitely recommend this GE refrigerator!

Love the fridge but surprised that it did not come with the narrow "deli" drawer. I could use this feature for sliced cheese, etc. I have searched and searched parts for this drawer as I saw one model included it. Anyway, otherwise, the new style ice chute takes some practice, but works very well. Love the look, much more room inside than old fridge and am happy with the purchase.

The fridge is so far great the color slate that I got is looking awesome. Plenty of storage room along in the door. It has bright leds. The icemaker and water dispenser work perfectly. [Employee of ge_appliances] Believe this or not I bought a new GE side by side 25 Cu Ft. after my old GE Artica died, it was 24 years old!! I had zero repairs! Will continue to buy GE always. One final note. My old frig had a drawer for lunch meat, cheeses etc. The new one does not, it should!

I've had GE products for years and am never disappointed. This unit is the current version of what I had and was not disappointed. Love the no fingerprint exterior. Giving 4 stars as there is no deli drawer which if I had known I would have kept from the old refridge.

Ice maker problems

The icemaker overflows the excess ice that builds up before being shut off by the shutoff lever. The chilling shelf over the ice bin prevents you from seeing how full the bin is. I would suggest not having a chilling shelf or redesign a better shutoff lever that works more effectively.

The appliance has lots of room. The drawers in the fridge are roomy, just wish there was one for meat/cheese. The door compartments are big enough to hold large containers. The freezer shelves hold frozen pizzas nicely. It's very quiet when making ice. So far the temperature seems fine. I like the feature of the removable water tray. Nice price point.

I received this brand new refrigerator as part of purchasing a condo, I didn't pick it. The size is fine for the space. Find the temperature to be excellent and consistent. The shelves on the door were a bit flimsy to install and lock in, actually fell out and had to be put back in. Keep this in mind when first using it. It has not happened since. The water dispenser and electronic buttons are convenient.

We've only had it in fir one day, so this is a preliminary assessment. It seems to run very quiet, except, when it dumps ice. It is extremely bright and easy to see everything inside the fridge and freezer. It should hold as many groceries as we'll need.

We love our GE fridge! Our LG crapped out on us. When we took the LG to the dump, the employee there asked us, “LG?” without even looking at the fridge! Sometimes the ice will get clumped and you have to remove the drawer and break apart the ice. We use a lot of ice in our waters, so we don’t have that issue much! We love the 2 door style better than the freezer being the bottom portion like our LG was. The water filter lasts us a few months before needing replaced! We love the glass shelving! The capacity and compartments are perfect for us and the temperature is so easy to set and view to check it. I love the energy we’re saving with it!

I've only had the refrigerator for three and a half days, bur so far everything is working as it should. My previous refrigerator was a GE Adora. This one is a little different in space and shelf placement, but I'll get used to it. However, the door on the refrigerator side swings open hard and "crashes". I'm not happy with that, but satisfied overall.

Shelving / Locking wheels

Installing the shelving was time consuming, helpful for shelving brackets/retainers be labeled to the diagram. Key is to highlight the ends of the brackets. What's GE's solution for locking the wheels, the frig moves forward when pulling open the door, instead of going to Google.

I replace my 10+ year old GE side by side refrigerator with the latest version of the same. The new one does not have a drawer for cold cuts. Everything else is similar with the exception that there are more led lights in the new one. The new one may be more energy efficient The capacity of 25.3 cu ft is the same The same number of shelves and door bins. The temperature controls and the ice maker are the same.

I am disappointed by the design of the shelving in the freezer and refrigerator. I am replacing a failed LG side by side with this new GE side by side. I like your overall quality better, but I don't have so many options with the number and size of shelving. I will not be able to put the same amount back in, that I took out of the LG.

Good fridge for the price

Fridge works as designed but we don't yet have the ice maker connected to water as we are in progress of installing a new water line. The fridge is relatively quiet and seems to maintain temperature without cycle too often. The size is decent and works for our application as I needed a side by side fridge and freezer as it's difficult to use a drawer freezer from a wheelchair.

Get in regards to the standing shelves. Allows for view of all things. Would prefer the French door with pull out bottom due to capacity issues with this one but it works due to the available space in our kitchen. In regards to temperature and energy it does well on both and hasn’t caused any alarming problems. Only true issue I have is with the noise of the ice maker working to make ice. Can’t stand it but I guess it comes with the territory.

Our refrigerator is only a couple of weeks old, but so far it has worked flawlessly. Ice maker began making ice within a few hours of start up and has been working great ever since. Yes we emptied the first load of ice to be safe. Lights in the unit are a real nice feature as well as the amount of storage with shelves and drawers. All food has remained at the temperature set at set up with no issues.

Zero Clearance Doors!!!

Great fridge and highly recommend it. The best part is the zero clearance doors. GE doesn't really advertise this but it is a huge selling point. We originally purchased a Samsung Bespoke model and didn't realize the doors on it requires a ton of space when opened. This didn't work for use since the fridge is up against a wall on one side. We ended up going to back the store and opening every fridge to see the clearance. This GE model was THE ONLY 2 Door fridge that has zero clearance doors. The curved edges are also a smart design feature. I have to recommend this to anyone looking for a 2 door model and has clearance issues in their fridge space. We exchanged our Samsung Bespoke for this and love it. The storage space is great too. We also have a new GE Stove to match. We did look at LG who have zero clearance in 3 doors but we hate the French doors. We actually moved our perfectly working KitchenAid French door fridge to our garage because of the horrible freezer storage area.

This side by side’s freezer section has the best ice maker! Lots and lots of ice with a huge storage container! The refrigerator section could use some more shelving or compartments, or both. Fruits and vegetables tend to get forgotten because there is only one compartment for them if you use the other as a deli compartment . We had to buy a few extra clear plastic containers to help with organization. All in all , we have had no issue or problems. It’s not a huge fridge, but it does what it’s supposed to do at a price that didn’t break the bank.

My husband and I spend at least an hour removing all the tape and plastic from the outside and inside of the refrig. The blue tape is TERRIBLE. It was hard to remove and it stuck on the surface and/or the blue tape came off but left the clear glue on the walls. You need to offer a remover to take the remaining tape and/or glue off the inside. Fortunately, fingernail polish worked after MUCH scrubbing without damaging.

Shelving is the freezer section does not allow for stacking of loose pieces of meat and can only be so high before it falls off. Even though there is adequate height per shelf, it cannot be stack in a stable fashion. Maybe if the shelf can be re-design with a front shield to prevent pieces falling off.

Never had a side-by-side before, so we are adjusting to using it. I am disappointed that the water isn't very cool coming out of the door. I like having the cube and crushed ice features. I do think this model should include a cheese drawer. We've had to play with placing items in the refrigerator side. I also don't like that the manual isn't included and has to be downloaded, which makes it hard to refer to quickly.

When our first GE refrigerator died, we did not hesitate to buy another one. The one thing I am disappointed with is that they did away with the deli drawer, I used it to keep my fruit in it, now it goes on a shelf, which i now loose shelf space. On the freezer side you only get one basket, I really miss that second basket.

We love GE appliances. We had our last GE side by side refrigerator for 23 years before it quit working. Because we were very satisfied with our old refrigerator, we bought another side by side GE refrigerator just like the old one. The only difference is that it’s fingerprint resistant. Our delivery man, Danny, was super. He was very efficient and knew what he was doing. Within 15 minutes he had it installed.

Only have refrigerator a few days but it is quiet, very brightly lit up inside so you can see everything!! The shelves are adjustable so you can fit tall items such as milk/juice containers easily. The storage bins are deep which has the capacity to store all your fresh vegetables. Temperature settings are easy to adjust. So far it is a very positive purchase and we are very satisfied.

Refrigerator looks great, better lighting and layout than old GE it replaced. This one is much quieter than our previous GE SxS. Hopefully it performs well.

This is by far the best refrigerator I have ever owned. Well designed and though out as far as storage, lighting, pull-out shelves, bins, etc. The only downside is if you turn it off for any reason, takes 24 hours for it to remember to make ice. Temperature easy to control and maintains it well with the door seals. I found I can store much more than I used to. As far as energy, it says it is but I do not know! AND very easy to roll in and out to clean the back and coils. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

We love our new Side by side GE refrigerator with ice and water dispenser in the door and water filter. It's big and well built and we love the interior LED lights. Our only complaint is minor, but occasionally ice cubes spill out of the ice bin and drop into the freezer. A future design suggestion would be: My wife would perfer the freezer side built slightly smaller and the refrigerator side was slightly bigger.

I love the style, the open too long door alarm, and adjustable shelving and icemaker placement. I don't like that the temp display is only on when you push it, there is no deli drawer, that the water filter hangs inside (I'm scared someone will break it off loading the top shelf),and that the water and ice dispenser doesn't have a deep enough space so water and ice always spills out onto the floor no matter how slow or cautious you try to be and at night the water/ice choices (you can only pick one at a time) don't light up so you have to turn on a bigger room light (fridge light is not bright) to chose what you need.

The shelves are not good quality when compared to my last two GE models I purchased, thin shelves in fridge section and wire shelves in freezer. Also missing one middle shelf with drawer. Also my last refrigerator lasted only 6-1/2 year reflecting poor workmanship. The quality is consistently going down. And you offered only 5 year additional warranty for this and last one.

So far I'm frustrated I didn't realize the snack/deli drawer was apparently done away with. The crisper drawers at the bottom are shockingly less in depth front to back than my old GE. The shelving gradations could stand to have at least one more at the bottom. I will have to source an aftermarket solution to the snack drawer and that will only cost usable space. I have determined that ice cream is not freezing solid and is verly soft after 1 week of operation.

Fridge itself is very good, but build quality of the door hinges is sub par. CON: Hinges have been adjusted twice by repair people to even out the doors, but still off by 1/4”. Freezer door now makes a squeak when opened. Concerned by overall build quality or by lack of QC at the factory. PRO: Fridge operates very well, great features. Anti fingerprint finish is superb! Let’s hope she lasts many years.

19 months after the purchase, the door alarm suddenly goes off -- all doors are well closed, door seals are clean and well attached, switches by each door hinge are clean, operable, and in good shape; Long press (30 sec) the door alarm button didn't help. Unplugged the power for 10 minutes and plugged back on - it's still beeping. Otherwise the refrigerator itself works fine. A long story short, we had to leave for an hour, so we left it beeping while we were away. Mysteriously when we returned the beep stopped but the warning light was on. When we press the buttom by the light it simply turned off. No more sound or light after. Never understand what was going on.

Mediocre configuration, bad icemaker

I went back to an ice/water dispenser in a side-by-side fridge. I wish I had gone with a French door with a bottom freezer drawer. The narrow space in both the fridge and freezer is extremely inconvenient. There is no deli/cheese drawer, and it's easy for leftovers and small containers to disappear and start growing in the back of the lower shelves. The 2 drawers on the bottom are difficult to open and close. Bending down multiple times a day for fruit and veggies is very inconvenient. And to top it all off, after 6 months the icemaker stopped dispensing cube ice (though it will still dispense crushed ice). So it's not the end of the world, everything still works (mostly) but it's very inconvenient with a mediocre configuration. Hopefully, a warranty repair will take care of the icemaker issue. The fridge looks fine (we got the stainless steel) and I like the filtered cold water from the dispenser (we live in the desert Southwest). I just don't like having to trade convenience for it.

Problems with cooling and functioning

I purchased my GE side-by-side refrigerator on March 24, 2025, and initially, I was pleased with its sleek design, quiet operation, and spacious interior. However, by week 5, I noticed the refrigerator door seal began to loosen, which caused concern about cooling efficiency and potential spoilage. Even more frustrating, the ice maker has completely stopped working after just a few months of normal use. I expected better reliability from a reputable brand like GE, especially with such a recent purchase. I now have to schedule a repair visit under warranty, which is inconvenient and disappointing for a new appliance. GE, please improve the quality of your door seals and ice-making components — these issues shouldn’t happen this early.

Ice is not crushed---just smaller cubes---no "crushed" at all, very disappointed in that. Prefer a drawer in freezer, not a basket. A drawer holds more than the basket. 1 refrigerator door shelf holds the width of a water bottle only and can get 5-6 water bottles. Another door shelf is small in width at all. Need more ways to be able to adjust refrigerator shelving for food. Had the fridge almost a month and I am constantly trying to rearrange.

Service in setting up the refrigerator was fantastic from Wooldridge appliances. Drawbacks to the refrigerator are that it needs a pull out drawer in the middle of the refrigerator side, there needs to be one additional container in the door and this GE refrigerator is louder that our old LG. The water, ice dispensers on the front door are easy and efficient. Temperatures are easy to adjust on the front of the unit. We are just having to learn how to adjust due to the lack of compartments indicated above.

The water filter only lasts 2.5 months. We are only 3 people and wife drinks soda. After 2.5 months the water pressure drops drastically to a trickle. So filter change is needed. 4 months after purchase, the RFID reader failed. It stopped detecting new filters. I replaced the RFID board (yes it is under warranty but didn't want to deal with scheduling and waiting). Kenmore I had before have much bigger filter that lasted 6 months easily and No chip filter was needed. So not a good start with my GE fridge. Will it last 3 yrs? I better start looking for a replacement

Temperature is unstable, freezes everything in the back shelves, had to turn temperature down several degrees. Odd rounded design at top shelf in fridge means you can’t slide anything tall to the back. A lot of wasted space with weird design. Main humidity control bin shelf broke in a year with normal use, nothing heavy and a 2 person household. Ice cubes fly out inside & find them in frozen foods every week. Weird freezer circulation can’t push things to the back or blocks vents. Would not buy again.

This is our 4th GE side by side. They are great, but the ice makers are notoriously slow. This last one, however, is either malfunctioning or just ridiculously slow and worse than bad. We can't get through a day without running out. Hoping it's a warranty issue. Update: service came out, changed out water filter first since GE had some issues with a batch of filters? Didn't help, they came back and changed ice maker. Still not working. Waiting to hear back on Monday. So day, let down and frustrated. We can't fill more than 2-3 cups with ice in a day.

About Two Years Later

Overall, this product does keep the food cool or frozen. It has flexible storage configurations. All that should be a given in the 21st century. However, after a year a light went out which is annoying-still need to get it fixed. But the most frustrating thing about it are the filters! Over half the filters do not work and are a giant waste of money. It's practically a subscription but worse! The filters cause the water pressure to drop so significantly you wait 5 minutes just to fill up your cup! We had to throw at least two filters away early just because the water would dispense at a trickle. Really frustrating. For the frustration of the filters alone and the waste of time and money I would not buy a GE fridge with a water dispenser again.

It's never worked right and warranty service has not fixed it. Everything freezes, including the water filter so it doesn't make ice or dispense water. If I wanted a giant freezer then I'd be happy, but I ordered a side by side fridge.

Don’t buy, ice machine won’t work

Don’t buy, bought fridge after two months and the ice dispenser no longer works. When I turn it on condensation appears inside the freezer and it makes a loud humming sound. I tried to get in touch with bodewell and (GE maintenance) and I can’t schedule a maintenance person to come. When I tried to register the item there website wouldn’t recognize it. Extremely disappointed

It's a very tiny refrigerator you can't fit much in there I have issues with the ice maker the ice never comes out and also the LED lights are being replaced constantly

We found the unit to be very noisy when making ice. It takes two days to fill the ice compartment, I fill a small six can cooler every day and it barely makes enough ice to fill it (cooler has 4 bottles of water and two soda cans. Bought the unit in April of 2024.

This refrigerator/freezer is a big disappointment. There is no separate meat/ cheese drawer and does not come with enough shelves. They have cheapened this unit up and I would recommend looking to another manufacturer.

Bought new home with brand new fridge, can’t get ice maker or water to work. Can’t get anyone to help fix because the brand new fridge came with the house I did not personally purchase. So I have a brand new fridge (I took plastic off and everything) that doesn’t work

In 12.5 months, refrigerator is out of order

I received this refrigerator just over a year ago. After one year, it started to fail to stabilize temperature with intermittent beeping. Since it was a little over 1 year, (12.5 months), 1-year warranty didn't kick in. They probably produce inferior products to serve as long as warranty is applicable. GE is am worse appliance and not reliable at all. Don't buy it at any circumstances.

I am 45 and I have moved around a lot in my life (prior military) so I have had many refrigerators. This is my first brand new fridge and it is the worst one I have ever owned. I am about to call for a repair tech for the 3rd time in under year. We only bought it 9 months ago. The door alarm sometimes beeps constantly. It's fully sealed and not opened at all. The only way to stop it is to unplug the unit. Also, it's the loudest fridge I've ever had. The service tech said it's a known issue and that we need to leave a 1 inch gap between the food and the back of the freezer. Meaning putting food in our freezer messes up the operation. If it needs a 1 inch gap then they should have designed the required gap into it. Not require the customer to constantly worry about an engineering issue. I will never buy another GE product again.

Problems in first 30 days of owning

The door won't stay open while you remove something. It closes on your arm. The fridge is set on 34 degrees but won't go below 38-40 ( I'm using two fridge thermometers) . Lower bins are awkward to use with reach-under handles . I have requested a service call.

Poor quality / Don't buy

Within 1-2 days, there is an internal leak or condensation dripping inside the freezer, with very strange noises. Feels like a lemon that should have never left the factory. Very disappointed. Tried to sign up online for an appointment but it kicked out our zip code. The phone menus are horrendous to navigate, going in circles and can't get a hold of anyone. Feeling stuck, and very disappointed 13 days in.

If I could give this AWFUL refrigerator zero stars, I would. It has a poorly designed freezer, allowing limited space for a family of three and is better suited for a single individual. The ice machine is crap. It has is no timer switch built into it to slow down the production of ice like our last fridge, so it overflows onto the shelves below. The sweeper arm-which is supposed to "detect" when it's full, does nothing. DO NOT buy this. Go buy any other brand because, honestly, anything is better than this refrigerator.

Ice maker, if you don't buy the GE filter with a chip your ice maker and water dispenser won't work. Filters cost 2 - 3 times generic price. Deeply regret this ge refrigerator purchase, will not make this mistake again.

The refrigerator has been making a very loud noise since the day I bought it, and even after calling for service 6–7 times, they couldn’t fix the issue. Now it has also stopped cooling. It hasn’t even been a year yet. It’s such a terrible product—I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone

Great features but horrible operation

Not happy at all with the operation of this refrigerator. The design and features are great but my original new one had to be replaced and now I’m having the same issues with the new replacement. Internal area sweats and leaks constantly through the water/ice dispenser area.
