Whirlpool 16 cu. ft. Chest Freezer WZC5216LW

This chest freezer offers 16 cubic feet of capacity, which reviewers consistently praise as ample room for bulk meat storage, holiday items, and frozen goods. Multiple owners report it easily accommodates whole animals, large quantities of beef and pork, and frozen turkeys that wouldn't fit in standard refrigerator freezers.

Yes, multiple reviewers specifically note that this freezer is very quiet during operation. Several owners compare it favorably to older models they replaced, highlighting the quiet performance as a key advantage.

Yes, this freezer has adjustable temperature settings that allow it to operate in either freezer or refrigerator mode. Owners appreciate this versatility, noting it provides a useful backup option if their primary refrigerator needs service or for seasonal storage of garden produce.

The freezer includes wire baskets and multi-level storage bins for organization. While some reviewers love the basket system and appreciate the ability to move baskets around, others note that the plastic clips holding the baskets are flimsy and may bend or break under weight, and the wire stabilizers don't divide sections as effectively as built-in rail systems. A few owners received fewer baskets than advertised.

Yes, the freezer includes an interior light that illuminates when the lid is opened. Reviewers appreciate this feature, though one owner noted the light mechanism uses a marble-like ball that rolls to trigger the light, which works but is unconventional.

The freezer includes plastic spacers between the lid and chest that protect the gasket during transit and must be removed after installation. One owner discovered these spacers were left in place for months, causing higher energy costs until they were removed. The lid is counterbalanced to stay open when lifted. Be aware that this unit may trip GFCI outlets commonly required in new garages.

Replacement baskets are difficult to find. One reviewer reported that Whirlpool does not sell extra baskets directly, and off-brand alternatives that fit this model are not readily available, which may limit your ability to expand storage organization later.

Reviewers consistently praise the freezer as an excellent value for the price, with good overall build quality and Whirlpool's trusted brand reputation. However, some owners note that certain components—like the plastic basket clips and light mechanism—feel cheaper compared to older Whirlpool models they previously owned, and the exterior body temperature runs colder than some previous freezers.
