Free, confirm-first email when the price drops on 800 Series 20.5 Cu. Ft. Smart Energy Star Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator With Internal Water Dispenser (best partner price today: $3,999).
The Bosch 800 Series B36CL80SNS is a four-door French door refrigerator with a counter-depth design and a stainless steel finish with a bar handle. It offers 20.5 cubic feet of total storage capacity and is classified as a freestanding, full-size refrigerator. The unit includes Wi-Fi connectivity for smart home integration.
This refrigerator is designed for kitchens where a counter-depth profile is needed to align with existing cabinetry rather than protruding beyond it. The French door configuration with four doors suits households that want separated storage zones and frequently access fresh food from the upper compartment. Because this is a Wi-Fi-compatible appliance, a wireless network is required to use smart features, and as with any full-size refrigerator, buyers should verify that the unit's dimensions fit their available space and that proper electrical supply is accessible.

What owners talk about most
“We took delivery on this just a couple of weeks ago, after waiting for about two months. Overall, we are happy with it, most especially the interior cool-water dispenser and the size of the door bins (bottom bin can store 3 half-gallon cartons). However, there are three items to note. First, the keep-fresh (exterior) middle drawer does not have a large capacity. We have some fruit and veg in it but still have to put some inside the main refrigerator compartment. Second, we bought our unit as a replacement for a Liebherr french-door refrigerator, which was truly counter depth. This model is not; the doors/drawers stick out an inch or two beyond the front of our 25"-deep cabinets. Last, the shelves are split in the middle and not well-supported in the center. I would not put any extremely heavy items (marinating turkey, for example) on one of those. *We have not had this item long enough to know if it will be reliable.*”
Owners Answer
The questions shoppers ask, answered from real owner reviews and discussions across the web — not the manufacturer spec sheet. See the spec FAQ below for the official numbers.
Despite its counter-depth footprint (35.6 inches wide, 31.1 inches deep), this model offers 20.5 cubic feet of capacity and reviewers consistently report it feels surprisingly spacious. Many owners who downsized from larger fridges note they can actually fit more usable items, thanks to the well-designed interior layout with full-depth shelves, large door bins, and a dedicated middle drawer. The French-door design and flexible shelf configuration maximize storage without feeling cramped.
Most owners praise the quiet operation of this model. However, a few reviewers report it can be noisy when the compressor runs, with one noting a high-pitched sound. A certified Bosch technician confirmed in one case that some units in this line do operate at higher noise levels than expected. If quiet operation is critical, it's worth testing in-store or confirming the noise level before purchase.
The ice maker is a standout feature for most owners—it produces abundant ice and keeps the bin consistently full, even with heavy use. However, some reviewers note the ice cubes are smaller than expected, and a few report the ice maker can overflow, causing cubes to spill into the freezer when the door opens. One owner reported their ice maker stopped after producing only 13 cubes, though this appears to be an isolated defect rather than a widespread issue.
The middle drawer is a temperature-controlled compartment designed for items like fresh produce, cheese, and deli meats. Reviewers consistently praise its convenience and find it more useful than expected, noting it keeps vegetables and produce fresher longer and provides easy access to frequently used items. The drawer features a soft-close mechanism, though some owners report it can be somewhat difficult to open and close.
Most owners report excellent build quality and long-term reliability. However, several reviewers note that the plastic crisper/cheese drawer in the main refrigerator compartment feels flimsy and can be difficult to open and close for the price point. A few owners also reported receiving units with minor shipping damage (dents on doors) or incomplete installation (unsecured door handles). Some early failures have been reported (compressor issues, electronic failures), though these appear to be isolated defects covered under warranty rather than systemic problems.
One reviewer reported that despite the product description claiming fingerprint resistance, the exterior shows every touch and is not actually fingerprint resistant. However, another owner specifically praised the smudge-free exterior and lack of fingerprints. Results may vary by finish or unit.
Reviewers consistently praise the bright, even interior lighting and thoughtful layout. The design minimizes dark corners where food gets lost, and the adjustable shelves, spacious drawers, and logical compartmentalization make it easy to keep items visible and organized. Many owners note the layout feels intuitive and helps prevent food waste.
One reviewer noted that the refrigerator doors fall back onto you when accessing the fridge and do not pull themselves shut like the drawers do, so they can be left slightly ajar. The soft-close drawers are praised, but the doors themselves lack this feature, which may require more attention to ensure they close fully.

Very happy with all the great features and the look. There was a small dent in the left and also right door when I received it.
This was a huge splurge, but given how much use our fridge gets it is 100% worth it. Ice is plentiful, so there’s always enough for filling all the teenagers water bottles. It’s spacious and the door capacity for Costco-sized milks and juices is a huge upgrade from our…
I absolutely love the storage and organization in this fridge and freezer. Everything has a designated place, which makes it so much easier to keep food visible, accessible, and neat. The adjustable shelves and spacious drawers help maximize space, and I can fit much more than I…
I like the sleek design of this refrigerator! No water or ice dispenser on the outside is my favorite thing about the design Middle drawer is used more than we thought.

Brand Background
Bosch refrigerators bring German engineering precision to the American kitchen, backed by parent company BSH Hausgeräte and a heritage stretching back to 1967. Positioned firmly in the luxury tier, Bosch emphasizes refined European aesthetics, whisper-quiet operation, and strong energy efficiency credentials. The Fridge.com catalog currently tracks 13 active Bosch refrigerator models, with the lineup heavily favoring French door and counter-depth configurations—six French door units and five counter-depth models reflect the brand's focus on premium, kitchen-integrated designs that sit flush with cabinetry. Models like the B36CL80SN French door and the B36CL81EN counter-depth represent the core of the Bosch refrigeration portfolio, appealing to homeowners who prioritize seamless installation and sophisticated styling over sheer capacity. While Bosch commands respect among design-conscious buyers and those sensitive to appliance noise levels, the brand maintains a relatively compact product range compared to mass-market competitors. This focused approach allows Bosch to concentrate on fit, finish, and performance rather than flooding the market with variations. For shoppers seeking a quieter, European-influenced refrigerator that complements modern kitchen renovations, Bosch remains a compelling luxury option worth exploring through the Fridge.com database.
