Cafe vs Profile

Had a side by side Profile and upgraded to the Cafe because of great price and better quality. The overall capacity is adequate but slightly smaller. Was able to use the beverage rack from the old Profile in the Cafe which was not an option on the Cafe. My only issue is the Ice/Water panel is hard to read. The lettering font and boldness is too small and difficult to read. It would be a benefit if the LED lighting would include the various options. Overall, very nice design and satisfied with the Fridge!

After 15 years we needed a new frig. I did major research. Went to every store in San Diego that sold refrigerators. Finally decided the Ge Cafe side by side counter depth was the right refrigerator for us. We had to have counter depth. Small kitchen. But we host parties. Had to be configured well enough to hold party food. This refrigerator is perfect. Has really nice drawers that slide easy. A deli drawer and a butter keeper. 2 very important things for me. The freezer will even hold a frozen pizza. It has wire door racks perfect for ice cream bars and butter sticks . And I love the round handles. I think they’re called bar handles. The right one has a beautiful copper Cafe logo. Best frig ever. Very quiet.

This refrigerator is very stylish. We bought a counter depth.They are smaller but this one is very well appointed. The drawers slide so nice. Has a Deli drawer and a Butter keeper. Which most refrigerators no longer have. Helps to keep everything organized.The freezer has 2 drawers and really nice wire shelves on the door that bend out. There is even a little shelf above the ice maker. Perfect for ice cream bars. It is made in Kentucky. One of the reason I bought it. Love, Love, Love this refrigerator.

I was a bit nervous about getting a smaller refrigerator , however due to the space I went to a counter depth model. I purchased the double oven so thought the cafe would be a nice touch. I have been pleasantly surprised that it has nice space and the solving and drawers are very roomy and flexibility with shelving. Love water on the door and it is not messy. The stainless stays very clean and not a lot of fingerprints. I really am very happy with it.

This fridge looks really nice in my kitchen and works great. Definitely elevates the look and feel to your kitchen. The only reason why I’m taking off a star is because I don’t think it’s deep enough. Its a bit small for such a nice fridge.

We bought the café refrigerator / freezer due to our other GE profile after six years died and it was going to cost us way too much to fix it. I had to buy the café in order to get the same set up that’s in the GE profile had & liked. We spend a bit more but it was worth it. I like the look seems to be doing great so far since we just got it installed this month.

The Cafe refrigerator is nice. Although not as nice as the GE Profile it replaced. I believe the overall quality of everything you buy now-a-days has gone a little downhill. For example, the outside finish on the new Cafe is stainless just on the doors. My old profile was all stainless! The auger for the ice dispenser is now plastic, whereas my old Profile's auger was steel. It's just little things that I have noticed. Now I will just have to see if the longevity of the new Cafe is just as good as my old Profile.

We ordered our refrigerator May 2021 and it was delivered September 2022. We previously had the GE profile which we sold we our last home and really liked it. This time we ordered the Cafe to match the Cafe double oven that was ordered at the same time in 2021. We may receive the oven in January 2023. Thank goodness we have an oven that works!! The cafe refrigerator is a great improvement over the large black one which came with the new property. Since there are only two of us now and we have plenty of space in the refrigerator and like the counter depth since we have a smaller kitchen. Space wise the counter depth may not work well for a family. When the refrigerator was delivered the bottom drawer in the freezer wasn’t installed correctly. We didn't realize the freezer door wasn’t closing completely until we had a large build up of frost in the freezer. The repair person was very nice and fixed the issue. No problems since. We’ve had the refrigerator for less than a month so really to soon to know how well it holds up over time.

I was in the middle of writing this and hit done thinking I was done with the photos - so hopefully the beginning of my review with photos came thru. I originally put 5 stars but was going to change to 4 only because I do not like the way the shelves in the freezer seem to have ice on them all the time — -normal? In case my other review did not come thru— we are very happy with space but there are only 2 of us - not sure how it would be with a large family. Pizza boxes fit-and I like the small shelf in top for our ice cream sundaes. I was nervous refrigerator would not fit all our condiments-but no problem at all. First time for ice maker / water on the door. If I had to do all over I would stick with bottles of water (which we are doing anyway -not thrilled with taste of water) & ice maker inside. When we have our Martini’s or other similar drinks we have to fill another glass with ice first (otherwise I think the ice coming down would break the glass)-kind of a nuisance. But that is obviously just a personal preference.Otherwise all ok (so far). Just 1 warning- if you get the counter depth side by side -be sure you have enough room to open door wide.We won’t be able to remove the bottom drawers, and you have to be careful to make sure the door does not slam into the counter whenever you open it. Might be a problem if you have young children. Going to try to add picture.

We just remodeled our home & got all new appliances, and we love our our new Cafe fridge! It took us a lot of thought, after thinking we wanted a French door fridge, but we’re so happy we decided on the double doors. It looks great in our new kitchen! We especially love the rose gold “Cafe” on the handle. It brings it so much more character.

This fridge has drawers in the freezer that does not allow soft freezer items to block the air flow. Our last fridge had no drawers and soft freezer items would block the air flow and that caused our problems to replace it only after 2.5 years.

So far it is great refrigerator . On the design , I love the three drawers all together at the lower portion of the refrigerator . However, I don’t fall ct the shelves that move for bigger taller bottles , I would have liked more sfos d for milk gallons juice or wine .

I've had this side-by-side refrigerator and freezer for a little over a week, and will try to update my review after a year. So far, the appliance is working well. The controls are easy and I especially like the feature that allows you to turn off the ice maker if you want to. My only reservation is that the fridge and freezer are not as capacious as my previous one, which was of the same external dimensions.

Wonderful classy look! The doors swing shut like a heavy vault door versus a cheap flexible feeling. The ice maker is amazing and works like a champ! I like the touch screen pad on the front and the light function is a nice to turn on or off. My only nit pick would be if the refrigerator was a little deeper to allow a little more room inside. The shelves are easy to adjust and the drawers slide in and out with ease.

our 17 years old GE suddenly gave up the ghost on weekend....tried to replace it with something similar and found this beaut! Size is a little smaller, but fit into the kitchen space/counter space we had. Ice maker is smaller but pumps out plenty for our use and like the crisper bins. Water and ice feature outside door are super easy to use/control, etc. All upgraded electronics are nice additions and love the taste of the filtered water.

Beautiful refrigerator to match our other Cafe appliances. It seems to be finger-print resistant and cleans easily. It's smaller than other models, but I like the counter-depth and it offers more than enough space for our family of 3. My only complaint is the leaking water dispenser. I have had similar issues with our manufacturers, so it seems to be a common problem across makers.

Café Refrigerator is a dream. Quiet, 1/2 shelf I use constantly for taller items. Crisper keeps fruits and vegetables fresh for a good amount of time. Freezer with ice and water machine of various shapes and sizes is easy to operate, ready to use without flowing out. Buy it you’ll love it.

New installation from a home renovation. I didn't have a lot of space due to limitations within the kitchen. This refrigerator has a tremendous amount of door space; to account for somewhat limited space on the shelves; which seems to balance out. The 'Quick Ice' option is a nice addition. I've only had the appliance installed for a couple of months; which is why I didn't rate as Excellent - but love it so far.

The big fridge died, so my wife and I decided to down-size a bit (since we’re empty nesters). We already have the GE Cafe induction range, so we kept with GE. The Cafe fridge very quiet, cooled down fast, and is quite handsome. What I can’t fathom, is why GE didn’t get an Energy Star rating for this line of fridge. I won’t make this as a point of contention because the old fridge was from 1985. I mentioned down-sizing; yep, that’s something to get adjusted to, but we really like the flush countertop fit.

So far there are some things we don’t like and things we do for the bad, we wished the stainless matched the oven, dishwasher and Advantium oven. The front to back level is way off, approximately 1/4-3/8”. So much when you raise the front rollers as high as the go and the refrigerator is next to a straight wall, the bottom is about about an 1” comparted to the top. Had to shim the back up just so it at least appears level. Had to lower the temperature to 34 F to get the top shelf to 37 F. Milk went bad to quick two different times. For the good, we like the style and looks of the Cafe appliances. Hope we enjoy the refrigerator and it gives us many years of service. We will see I guess.

I love the french doors which stay open a small amount in case you need something else before they shut. If they stay open too long, the alarm goes off, but you can easily turn it off if you need the doors to stay open. The drawers are huge and the freezer is just the right amount of space for so many things.

Just replace my old ge cafe fridge from my experience on side interior did enhance from the shelves and add drawer as well in the freezer i love it but exterior the height is few inches shorter and the door are wide so is difficult to say is a countertop depth fridge when it stick out (my previous fridge the door width was not as wide) But my only complain is humming noises is loud. I did read about noise which it states for few minute but mine is continues - my previous fridge was was for sure not loud

I am enjoying my new refrigerator. I am getting use to the new layout (such a creature of habit that I am - it is often hard to adjust) I Love the Lights!!! - I can see and the dimmer is an added bonus (yes the little things. Configuring the shelves for my use and being able to change when I have a special need is awesome. The refrigerator cools great. IT does its job. The refrigerator is counter depth. A smidge taller that the old. Handles are great. Cannot wait to get the black extra handles. I have them on the range, It compliments my kitchen (my spouse was skeptical and NOW a fan!

This fridge does well keeping temps and making ice. We went to counter depth for this one and we’re pleased with the room and available space inside. The “stainless” facade is just that….a facade. If magnets stick, it’s got ferrous material which means it’ll rust and is not truly stainless like my salesman postulated.

Refrigerator section offers adequate space and is well lite. Drawers work smoothly and are easily adjustable. Freezer side is well laid out but does lack the cubic foot capacity for people who likes to purchase frozen foods in bulk. The water w/crush ice and water in the door is a nice feature. Water filter provides much better tasting water than our previous filter system.

We bought this Cafe fridge to replace a 19-year-old GE Arctica Profile cabinet-depth model. Both were precisely the right dimensions for our cabinet space -- a critical consideration given that most cabinet-depth fridges have gotten taller over the years. (GE, please keep offering models in this size, and help homeowners like us avoid a kitchen remodel!) The interior layout of the fridge hasn't changed from our earlier model, which is a good thing, as the layout is both user-friendly and flexible. But several refinements have been introduced. In particular, the lighting, temperature controls, water/ice dispenser, and exterior look have been meaningful upgraded. We are happy with our purchase and hope to have a good run with it. We also hope to avoid some of the issues that affected our earlier fridge, including two shelving mechanisms that broke, despite our pretty gentle usage.

Café Side by side squeeze!

This is a beautiful refrigerator that definitely upgrades the look of the kitchen, however there is a but! This appliance replaces one of the same exterior dimensions and is marketed as counter depth but holds much less than my old refrigerator. I couldn’t fit a frozen pizza in it today, had to cook and eat it. The depth of the freezer drawers is skimpy. Mechanically and aesthetically this is a very nice appliance.

I bought this unit after two failed refrigerator purchases in 2 months. The refrigerator and freezer portions reached set temperatures within 8 hours and the first ice appeared at 10 hours. Very happy with the shelf adjustability, and the available storage layers in the freezer. Also very pleased with the noise factor; very quiet operation. The exterior features are generally a good match with other brand kitchen appliances. Overall, an excellent purchase.

I bought this for my new kitchen. I bought the stove and dishwasher too. I’m still waiting for the dishwasher to arrive. I love the sophisticated look. I wish they made a drawer microwave!! I had to order a different brand, but it hasn’t arrived either.

We have a kitchen full of cafe appliances which we love. Sadly, we had to replace our french door, bottom freezer model with this one because of size constraints. It is a beautiful fridge with clean lines and great lighting, but a little small for our produce needs. We have to be super organized and really plan when shopping, but overall it is a quality refrigerator.

We replaced a 16 year old GE profile refrigerator with this one (same dimensions). The interior lighting is great and the layout is also great. It seems like we have more useable space inside. The only downside to us is that the refrigerator is a lot noisier than our old one. This is the reason we gave it a 4 star rating instead of a 5 star

I have had the Cafe side by side for a few weeks. Working well with nice shelving and LED lighting. Side by side cabinet depth is all I could fit in my house- so wish it was a bit bigger in frig side. Ice maker works well, water flow seems a bit slower than my last GE profile side by side. Really like Cafe look and would recommend it. Quiet and fits well in the kitchen.

This is great product. The only reason I gave it a 4 star is because of the ice maker. It doesn't produce much ice and it shoots out ice randomly. The shelves are easy to clean. Crisper drawers are nice. I like the large shelf in the door for milk.

We have had this for about 1 month and are very happy with it so far. The ice/water dispenser and quick ice functions are superb. Tip: only use the quick ice function when you really need it. I don’t think it is meant to be “on all the time.” The adjustable shelves are great and we like that things don’t “disappear” at the bottom of the freezer.

We bought this fridge a month ago, and it has been perfect for our needs—good lighting, ample in-door shelves for all our many condiments and milk/juice carton. The “extra height” shelf is genius. The crushed ice feature on the water dispenser is my favorite.

Decent, but has some issues

For the most part, the unit is great. But there are two concerns. First, the fridge tilts backwards to a signifcant degree. I’m on my second unit and both had the same issue. The insaller told me it was a consistent problem with this model and a lot of customers return the model for that reason. I had to use a piece of wood to prop the backside up just to make the fridge stand straight with no backward tilt. Also, the ice dispenser is a problem. The dispenser hole is so wide that if you use a standard glass or cup ice will fall out around the side of the glass. The problem is amplified if you try and dispense crushed ice. The crushed ice just sprays everywhere. The only way to prevent ice from spraying out everywhere is to use a glass with an extra large opening, like a beer stein, that can encompass the entire dispenser opening. I didn’t have that problem with the ice dispenser on my Whirlpool side-by-side.

Besides being loud, the shelf placement is a bit awkard, wasting vertical space. The shelf frames are also so wide that you can't quite use all the horizontal space. The folding shelf is interesting, but the bar under it impeades complete usage of the shelf below.

It is a lot smaller interior wise than the ge monogram that I had previously. It keeps everything cold and freezer is doing it’s job so it is working. Ice maker works. I’m not excited about this purchase. It is what it is.

This is the second cafe refrigerator that I’ve purchased. The first was the French drawer white. The second is the side by side. The second is nothing special for the price. I find the Ice maker not ideal. I would like to be able to empty the ice and turn it off for when I’m gone for extended time.

Expected better quality - some design flaws.

Overall, the side-by-side fridge and freezer layout is very good, but expected better quality on things like the touch pad and crisper bins that don’t have rollers or ball bearing slides. Biggest design flaw is that there are no leveling feet, just adjustable rollers. This allows you to level the fridge, but the whole fridge slides out when you try opening the doors. Like the fingerprint resistant finish.

Although I have not moved into my home I have been in and out and noticed how loud this Cafe side by side refrigerator is. It's pretty but I have yet to use it on a daily basis . I had to buy something to match the upgraded appliances already installed in my new home which were Cafe series. Although I don't care for door water and ice dispenser, I like the layout. I'll keep ya posted on this noisy refrigerator, hopefully not so loud after moving in.

Aesthetically, the refrigerator looks great. Functionally, from a cooling perspective it works ok. The Freezer seems to work fine; however, even when set at the recommended temperatures, the refrigerator compartment maintains inconsistent temperatures throughout, with some areas freezing while others are not quite cold enough. The most major issue we have had in the 4 months of ownership are that the drawers in the refrigerator compartment have already broken with normal use. They are made of very cheap plastic. The company replaced them with no issue, though.

Adequate but not Fabulous

Exterior look is good. Inside capacity feels small. The quick space shelf is a nice feature but wish it locked into position better. It is easy to bump it and have it shift backward. Bottom produce drawer is only half the depth of the other drawers which limits capacity. We have had this fridge 3 weeks and already had to have a service call for one of the refrigerator doors creaking every time it opens. It seemed fixed and now the creaking is back. Do not think I would buy this model again.

Love the look of our new fridge. We bought the entire Cafe appliance package. Unfortunately, this refrigerator is my least favorite of all of them. Not as much room inside as expected and arrived with ice machine not working. Had that fixed at no cost by GE, but now the water dispenser is not working. We’ve had it for a little over a month.

Water and Ice Dispenser on the Door

I love everything about this refrigerator except the ice and water dispense on the door. The place where you switch from water to ice cubes is already scratched and the surface is marred, the lever that you press to make the water come out is already water stained with water spots and the bottom tray that catches the water is stained as well. Keep in mind that this refrigerator is less than 2 weeks old. I hate to think of what it will look like in a year???? It is clearly visible and the first thing you see when you look at the fridge. Also, the plastic that controls the release of the ice cubes is coming off of the ice dispenser on the inside of the freezer already. Other than that, I really do like the fridge. I guess I will just have to order a bunch of replacement parts to keep on hand when the water spots become too unsightly!!

We’ve had the side by side less than two years and the electrical control panel appears broken. Depending on the cost of repairs we may consider purchasing a different brand as this is very disappointing and not what we expected from this higher brand more expensive appliance.

Continuation of my previous review. I downgraded from 3 stars to 2 stars. The ice/water dispenser pad is hard to read and is not backlit. Unless you know where to touch points are it's difficult to switch. Also, it you aren't careful the water will overshoot your glass and end up on the floor. I wish that I had not bought the refrigerator and wish that I could return it.

Caution - Not a good buy!

I really want to love this refridgerator but I can't. 1. The fridge temp has been between 39-42 degrees, even though the door panel says the temp is 34 degrees. 2. The shelves are not deep. I cannot keep the same amount of things in this fridge compared to my old fridge. I couldn't even fit the soda can holder! The drawers are also small, especially the ones in the freezer. And this fridge sticks out quite a bit.

Deeply Disappointed with this Cafe fridge

Extremely disappointed with this refrigerator. Despite being less than 2 years old, it's been nothing but trouble. The ice maker and water dispenser seem to have a mind of their own, dispensing randomly, unleashing a torrent of ice or water (depending on what it is set to) to pour uncontrollably onto the floor without a way to stop it. This is not just inconvenient, but poses a risk if you are not home when it happens. The melting mess may damage your floors. The only solution seems to be cutting off the power entirely, and not use the refrigerator. Compared to my previous 20 year-old GE Profile refrigerator, this is a lemon. The reliability and predictability once synonymous with the GE brand is a thing of the past. Buyer beware.

Disappointing quality

This refrigerator was a disappointment. The plastic used for the drawers and other parts is poor quality one drawer is broken and the shelf in the freezer is cracked. Also the icemaker has not worked since day one. Shelves are narrow and not at all sturdy. Was not worth the money I spent on it.

Horrible experience with this refrigerator. Makes a very loud intermittent buzzing sound. GE has been out to fix it 5 times (replacing multiple parts) only for the noise to return within a few months. They've now admitted they can't fix it, but won't replace it either - they want us to buy a new one at an "age related discount". DO NOT BUY THIS!

This product is extremely disappointing. The doors do not close completely and then an alarm sound begins. The storage is minimal compared to other brands (Cafe will not let me share the exact brand name, sadly). No butter dish, wine rack, or egg holder was provided. The ice maker consumes most of the freezer door. I will never recommend this brand.

This fridge is poorly designed. For instance, the top shelf is no higher than 12" from the top. This denies enough space for two meaningful shelfs beneath, and wastes nearly an entire ft2 at the top. All tall things must go up there, where kids are more likely to struggle to get at them. There is no reason at all greater flexibility could not be provided. Other fridges allow the top shelf as little as 8" from the top. The ice maker sounds like a tea kettle going off every hour or so. A screaming whistling noise. The compressor runs loud. This premium priced fridge was supposed to be better than the much cheaper fridge it replaced. It is not. The text on the control panel is very very difficult to read.

Zero Cooling and Fridge is Practically Brand New

So very disappointed in our brand new GE Cafe fridge that completely stopped cooling and freezing. Had to throw out nearly everything in the fridge. Fridge is only 8+ months old and has dead compressor, according to service tech from GE distributor who sold us the fridge. Understand it could be weeks or even longer for this to be fixed, if it even can be, leaving us without a refrigerator. What has happened to GE quality?

I hate this refrigerator. There is no space and the water dispenser does not accommodate anything but a regular glass. None of our water bottles fit under the dispenser so we have to fill a glass with ice, then water to fill our cups! There is no space inside and the bottom drawers in both of the refrigerator and freezer are only partial. I would be shocked if the inside is the 21’, I think it is impossible! I have only had it a few days and am just sick over the purchase! No space and poor design!

Within 6 months of installing this refrigerator, it started making a loud buzzing noise approx once every hours - loud enough to wake up a child sleeping in the next room. We have had GE out to fix it 3 times already and it keeps recurring. Now GE says our warrantee is expired and we'll have to pay for further repairs of the same problem that they haven't fixed the first 3 times out to our house.

Our Profile fridge quit after more than 10 years of spotless service. I decided to "upgrade" to the Cafe line. After a few months wait due to the pandemic, we finally took delivery of our new Cafe refrigerator. It's gorgeous -- minor differences in the interior layout. And now just 2 months after receiving it, the icemaker quit! You know how I know? It has the same sound as our 10-year-old Profile when the ice maker stopped working. What is happening to GE quality???

Takes care of my food, but tilts back at an unsightly angle in order to get the doors to close. Specs say front should be 5/8” higher than back, but installers had to raise front 1.25” higher than back for proper door function. It looks totally weird!

Bought as part of a package with dishwasher and range. Didn't spend near enough time really looking at the refrigerator. My fault. It is terrible. Small storage areas and many intrusions into what space is available. Especially the freezer. I am guessing at least 20% of usable space is compromised if not more do to lousy design. Much worse than my KitchenAid it replaced. Only positive I can relate is that water tastes good from the dispenser.
