Obviously it serves it purpose as a refrigerator. I really like the large size drawers for fruits and veggies. The shelves in the door are a nice size as well. I wish the door shelves though were configured differently. Would have been nice to have one more similar to the egg holder for smaller items like butter, etc. I did not get the ice maker so have more space in the freezer. My one complaint on the freezer is because I didn't get the ice maker the shelf doesn't go all the way to the back. Makes certain fall down off the shelf.

It is very convenient with large see-through bins at the bottom, areas for tall things and short things. I used my own shallow containers to organize the freezer area. There is more space with no ice maker in the way. I make my own.

I got this fridge because mine had finally died. I'm very satisfied with my purchase. It has a lot of space inside, on the doirs and the crispers are wide and deep. I haven't had any problems stocking it up because of space, there's more than enough room left over. The freezer is also very large and goes back deep. It gets everything cold or frozen quick. Great refrigerator and freezer.

A good unit but problems with freezer handle

Purchased because it was the only one that would fit the existing space around cabinetry. It's a good refrigerator but I'm not happy with the freezer handle. While the handle has holes fortwo screws where it attaches to the bottom of the freezer door one is not threaded so the handle is held by only one screw. As a result the handle does not stay in one place. Not a good design.

I am disappointed in the refrigerator that I have. It is less than five months in service and the freezer has frozen ice on the bottom shelf. I also have the top shelf of the refrigerator that collects the melted water. I've been having to wipe the top shelf with a towel 2 to 3 times a week! My 38 year old refrigerator never had this problem!

Fridge works great. Freezer is very roomy. Only small issue with the top shelf is too close to the light fixture in fridge, so larger items are harder to fit in. The compartment with the bulb is bulky. I would lower the shelf but then the lower shelves would have less room.

Love this deep freezer. Everything is at eye level there but not so much in the refrigerator. That’s where we lose the 5th star. Sometimes I lose track of the items way in the back at the bottom. All in all it’s a great appliance.

I just got this new refrigerator yesterday and love it so far, with 2 exceptions. I was surprised that the freezer section has no light. I also noticed that every time I close the fridge door, the freezer down pops open just a bit and then closes again. This doesn't seem like the most energy-efficient-friendly design. Other than that, I like the design of the refrigerator section - plenty of storage and well thought out too.

Plenty of room on doors and in main storage areas. Freezer shelves do not reach the back wall, leaving a gap between the back of shelf and the back wall. Wish it came with ice cube trays and an ice bin, preferably one for the door.

The fridge looks large on the inside but in fact holds the same amount as my smaller fridge did. It was a 19.1 cu ft and this is a 21.1 cu ft. Not a lot of difference but worth noting. It is quiet and performs well. The only thing I do not like is that the way the shelves are designed, you cannot put a gallon of milk on the top shelf. You would need to remove one shelf in order to do so. I do not drink a lot of milk so it is not a deal breaker for me.

First I should say I received this fridge as part of an energy efficiency program. I probably would not have paid this much for any fridge. I've had it a month or so and it's great. The delivery guy reversed the door hinges in about 10 min. It's quiet. I filled the ice trays and had ice the next morning. The factory settings put the top shelf at about 40 degrees and the bottom shelf at about 37 degrees (yes, I have thermometers due to a failing old fridge). It's very spacious, the drawers are great, the space on the door is amazing, you can put gallon jugs on 2 of the 3 door shelves!

This GE refrigerator replaces a 25 year old GE that was still operational in my home. I wanted a more energy efficient appliance. After installation I noticed the temperature of the unit at the recommended setting was actually colder. Wow! I thought my old fridge was working pretty well but I expect the new model is even better. There is not a light in the freezer. I'm undecided about whether or not this is bothersome. Overall, it's a nice appliance.

Where does the water connector cover go?

I just bought this fridge and installed the ice maker. On the back of the fridge it said, " The water valve cover that came with the Owner's manual must be installed with the optional ice-maker kit." It directed me to the part number (WR13X20070) which I ordered. No where in the directions does it reference that part so I'm not sure where it goes or if I even need it.

This is a great item with all the room you'll ever need in a fridg,it also has bins for you lunch meat etc. and the bins in the bottom have moisture controls on them, The freezer part of it also has alot of room for food. We are very happy and pleased with this product.

We bought this tor replace our old GE TBX 19.1 cubic foot refrigerator (which was still running fine after 26 years). Just thought it was time to replace it with something new from GE. It is very quiet and fit in the same space as the old unit even though it is wider, deeper. Only wish it had all the shelf adjustment settings like the old one. Still, we are very happy with this purchase.

This refrigerator has lots of shelf space for holidays. The only downfall is that it can't hold soda bottles except in a small space on the door on the first shelf and if you open a wine bottle with a cork, there is no place in the refrigerator that is high enough to hold any. If you lay it down, you better hope it doesn't leak. The vegetable drawers are nice and deep. There is a big space gap where you put the butter. When completely closed, there is a big gap on top where air gets in.

This fridge is the perfect size for a smaller home. I live in a thousand sq ft home and this fridge is compact enough that it fits well in the kitchen but large enough to have the extra storage space you want. It is very quiet which is also a must in a small home. The stainless steel is beautiful and it still lets magnets stick to it which some of the other brands dont do in this price range. Recommend to anybody with a small kitchen like me.

I am excited about the energy savings with this new Energy Star refrigerator. The refrigerator fit perfectly into the space of my old 15 year old refrigerator and the install went very quickly, with just the doors being switched to the opposite side. It is actually 1 cu ft smaller than my previous frig, but seems to have a lot of space. Within one hour of installation, the freezer and refrigerator were very cold. I like that I can add an ice maker to this model later if I desire. I was very pleased to find a model in bisque to match my other appliances. The user guide online was easily accessible and answered all of my questions.

I had / have other GE Products in my home and love the dependability / quality of this product across appliance lines. I have a (new) GE range and refrigerator, an existing GE washer and dryer. My previous GE kitchen appliances wore out (were in my Condo already when I purchased the condo in October - 2013. I am familiar and have had other GE appliances and know the quality / appearance. I did research and looked on-line and in-store at other brand names as well when shopping for a new range and fridge, but after all the review/research, stayed with GE. Very glad I did and would recommend them to others.

Love everything about the refrigerator except for the maximum height of the shelves. Many of the taller items do not fit. I was able to put only two taller items in the top door shelf. The freezer is large and holds a lot.

We have had this refrigerator for over a month. No complaints with the way it works except that it has a very loud motor. The decibel level varies at times and I am thinking of replacing the fan. The lack of a light in the freezer compartment might bother some users. Would not recommend only because of annoying motor.

I bought this refrigerator yesterday and really like it. Very roomy freezer and fresh food storage. Because we have it in our garage, the power cord was a little short so we had to use an extension cord. There isn't a light in the freezer, but I consider this a minor detail. In our older freezer, we had a special shelf where we could put the ice trays. None in this one.

I like the bisque color, the textured surface, the lack of dirt-traps on the handles, the metal back plate. It is quieter than my old one. I dislike the up front controls and the full width shelves. I'd prefer shallower door shelves and deeper main shelves and not having to reach so far to get to the things on the shelves. Time will tell how I feel about the single control. I just got it yesterday so probably should have waited to do a review. I replaced the most similar GE model from around 2002.

I had another unit which was a different brand name and all it did was run for one reason or another, It was also energy star efficient but had i known my electric bill would have been much lower i would have replaced it sooner, It does as good of a job at keeping frozen food frozen and cold food cold but less expensive on electricity..

The only thing I don't like is where the thermostat/temperature gauge is located. Is restricts where you can put taller items. I do like the feature for the ice maker in that you can turn it off when you have enough ice. Also runs quietly.

I just bought this when my 7.5 year old GE freezer on the bottom french door model stopped working. I would recommend the freezer be a bit smaller and split the top shelf and make it more adjustable. Presently when you lower it, the space between it and the next shelf are unusable.

I bought this refrigerator 2 months ago. I love the color black and the textured finish. It is spacious for my needs, however, I do not like the fact that you don't have a choice of moving the shelves. The shelves are basically stationary. The shelves on the door are not movable. You cannot use all of the shelves on the door, especially if you have tall items such as soda or juice. You will have to take a shelf off the door. The vegetable and fruit bins are large, a feature I love and you can control the humidity for both. The icemaker makes ice at a fairly slow pace. I am constantly using ice and the ice bin never fills up. I run out of ice daily.

Bought stainless steel top freezer model GTE21GSHHSS to replace an old top freezer/refrigerator, wanted an updated look and went with GE reliability and something to match our GE stove. Looks great but when the freezer fan turns on it sounds like a helicopter coming in from a distance, very loud. Also, icemaker is poorly designed. The plug is on the side wall and interferes with the ice tray, it does not sit against the side wall so some ice does not fall into the tray and ends up at the bottom of the freezer. Needless to say, we are disappointed.

Only owned 1 day. That said, the retrofitted ice maker seems to make tiny ice cubes, and not many of them. The default shelf configuration is disappointing. Don't know yet if I can adjust the shelving to make useful space. The vegetable drawers are so deep that they subtract useable shelf space from the rest of the fridge. Machine seems much less substantial than the 35-yr.-old Whirlpool it is replacing.

Position of top shelf requires tilting of some items to reach the back of shelf due to the front control panel being lower than the back portion. Not enough versatility in the three level positioning of the shelves. Unlike my previous refrigerator which gave you un-limited up and down positions. Lighting is very poor and no light in the freezer. Keeps the food cold (so far) but sadly not a lot of thought went into the design.

I love the large top freezer area. But I have two concerns. In order to get into the refrigerator section, you have to bend over to put in or take out things. Also, because the bottom of the refrigerator door is so close to the floor with only about ¾ to 1” clearance, it often smashes my foot upon opening. I like that it’s Energy Star rated. I recommend it for its freezer, but the refrigerator part is good for people 5 foot high or shorter.

I was surprised to find only one temp control for for this refrigerator. I find that it really needs to be turned all the way for ice cream to stay hard. I am keeping an eye on the food in the refrigerator to see if it is going to freeze. Your instruction booklet leaves a lot to be desired, really not a whole lot of information. This is the same size as my last refrigerator, but it appears somewhat smaller due to the layout inside.

Noisiest frig we ve ever had. We had a service tech visit us and listen to it. He said the new ones make noises; the noise is comparable to a belching sound. Very disappointing.

Nice looking refrigerator . . really like the textured finish. Bought this to replace a GE unit we'd had for almost 30 years without issue! We really wanted the bisque finish and those are very limited selection. Purchased this unit site unseen, just from the internet. Inside shelving is very awkward. Much lack of space for taller items. Shelving on inside of door looks generous at first, but it's not what it appears. It's very limited in the amount of bottles, jars, etc. that fit on these shelves. Also pics look like shelving is more adjustable han they are. Very disappointing. I knew there were some issues prior to purchasing from reviews I had read and held off buying for over a year hoping GE would come out with a newer, updated bisque version. But that didn't happen and we got to the point we could not wait any longer. Went with the GE again rather than another brand because of our great experience with GE appliances being well made and reliable. I'm not a fan of stainless steel and the bisque color is what we wanted to purchase. We'll just have to adjust to the inconveniences of this frig and hope we get used to them.

Satisfactory. No light in the freezer. Light in the refrigerator cabinet is blocked by items on the top shelf so the bottom 2/3 is dark. Shelf format is not flexible. 3 Shelves are full length so it limits ability to set up for tall items. Door shelves are large and handy.

While an attractive appliance, the proportions between freezer and refrigeration space are off. The upper freezer space is too large such that one has to bend down to access the lower refrigerator space. I wish that I had purchased a refrigerator with a bottom freezer unit instead.

It's definitely serviceable, but I think the design is off. There would be a lot more room in the fridge if 1) the fresh fruit and vegetable drawers weren't so huge and 2) the freezer wasn't so large. The proportions are just off.

Very good basic fridge

This was a model I didn't get to pick out myself. It was a replacement for one that had failed. It very nice - however the fruit and veggie drawers are so tall you loss some of the shelving flexibility. Anything tall has to go in the fridge door which isn't ideal for some of my items. I use gallon water for example and all the gallons are too tall for the inside fridge area. I basically have two shelves and I had to raise the middle shelf to be right under the meat/cheese drawer (luckily my yogurts fit in the small space left). It works great and is very quite, but I'm having to learn how to organize things in there.

I have only had this Item for 10 days, so can't really give it a fair assessment. But when I plugged it in, it started to run. Out the front door. Last time I saw it, It was half way down the block and I'm too old to give chase. But I do hope it returns because I personally like the features and GE have always manufactured good products. Because of short ownership, for now, I'll post 2 and 1/2 stars and reserve the other 2 and 1/2 for when it returns. I have received this product through my Northern CA utility company exchange program.

Month 1. Noticed my freezer door was open overnight! When you close the refrigerator door it pushes the freezer door open. I lost everything in the freezer. And had a big mess. Service came out well over a week later. Month 3. Freezer completely stops working. Ice tray is a puddle. Again lost everything in the freezer. Called 1 week ago today and still waiting for service. My family has gone without Ice during the heat of the summer. Spent so much on unusable food. Also came with no kick plate on a black unit. You can easily see the silver/white cheap metal feet on the bottom.

Terrible refrigerator

The two adjustable shelves only have three positions, if the top shelf is adjusted to hold taller items, the middle shelf is only 3" high. There's no light in the freezer. The doors do not close unless you physically hold onto the handle. The hinges were replaced under warranty, and worked better for a few days, but then went back to not closing properly. And now the refrigerator door squeaks when opening and closing.

Cheap construction

I bought this fridge barely 3 years ago & all the drawers sliding tabs have cracked then the door hinges broke so that we had to lift it a bit to close it. Of course this means it doesn’t seal nor does the freezer door seal. Now before I could figure out what to replace the door has fallen off completely. No wonder they’re not making this model anymore. A brand new fridge should last more than 3 years. I’m so disappointed.

Horrible Refrigerator!!

This refrigerator is AWFUL!! The drainage hole in the freezer freezes up every few weeks and according to GE’s support you have to get a screw driver and remove the back panel in the freezer. This is, of course, after you remove everything from the freezer. You have to then pour hot water in to defrost the blockage and then use a blow dryer to dry it. If you don’t do this tedious process and unblock the drainage hole, the water flows down into the refrigerator. Until we buy a new - not GE! - refrigerator we now stack towels on the shelf in the refrigerator to absorb the draining water as we are weary of going through the ridiculous process of thawing the drainage hole. It is hard to comprehend how an established company like GE sells such a piece of junk. In addition, it is extremely noisy and has a high pitched sound that drives us crazy. This refrigerator is not even 2 1/2 years old. Our previous refrigerator lasted 25 years!

GE Refrigerator is Junk

I purchased a new GE refrigerator and had it installed 8/02/2022 and within a week it stopped working. I had long ice cycles hanging in the freezer where it would stop running, the ice would melt, then it would kick on for a little while refreezing the dripping ice. I had to wait over 2 weeks for a GE Tech to come out for 10 mins, telling me nothing was wrong. I had 2 more service calls with the same GE Tech and never fixed the problem. Now my refrigerator does not work at all. It was purchased new 4..5 months ago. GE product is junk and service repairs are worse.

No more bisque GE Profile bottom freezer refrigerators! It was such a great product. Now the replacement bisque 21 cuft refrigerator is a top freezer. Constantly have to bend over to access the shelves. One width wide shelves, not adjustable for tall containers, no separate controls for freezer or frig, no temp gauges for freezer or frig, freezer is just big hole with no separate trays or baskets and no light.

Only good thing about this refrigerator is that we got it free from the power company in exchange for our old one. This fridge is not well designed and appears to be made of cheap materials: there is no freeze light; the shelves are not spaced well making stowing of milk and other tall containers difficult - it will not fit a wine bottle in the main compartment unless you lay it on its side; the fruit an veggie baskets are overly large which minimizes space for the shelves; there is a space for an second butter shelf on the door but it does not come with one; shelves in the fridge and freezer have no back lip to prevent items from falling off; and the freezer door shelves are too small. Minimal information in the owners manual.

We regret purchasing this product and wish we could turn back the clock, as we are now stuck with a refrigerator that has a poor design for our needs. We rarely use the top freezer because we focus on fresh foods, but the freezer occupies the most important space directly in front of the user and it is huge. To get what we need in the refrigerator, we have to bend down low, which is hard to do because we are both in our 70's. We have to reach deep to get anything because the shelves are recessed, due to the oversized shelves on the door. The hydrator bins are smaller than we are accustomed to, again because of the oversized door shelves. We have to avoid bumping our heads on the freezer unit, including the handle, as we come up. We have to reach around the thermostat which is situated in the most ridiculous position--right in the middle front of the top shelf instead of on the side or back of the fridge. If only we could return this product and get one more suitable for our needs.

My landlord bought this new frigerator for our unit and after a day or two it stopped freezing and keeping food cold . You can hear that’s it on and it’s faintly blowing air but the freezer is only at 40 degrees and the fridge only gets to 50 I had to put thermometers in there to check because it can be very deceiving seeing your ice cream slowly soften over the course of days .

Problematic Design!

After waiting months for the 2nd refrigerator to arrive, the 1st one being damaged as well as numerous calls to GE & the shipper to flip the doors so I could open them in my small kitchen space, this fridge has been a big disappointment! The only good feature is the textured bisque color! Aside from there being no light in the freezer & it's shelves stop 2/3 of the way back to protect vents, I presume, stuff falls off! Trying to get the temp just right without my stuff freezing in the fridge is tricky because of no independent controls! The fridge is quite spacious & much deeper than my 27 yr old side by side Whirlpool was, my kitchen is small & it's practically in the middle of my kitchen, oh well... However, given the other issues, the one that gave it my bad rating is a serious design flaw! Whenever you open the freezer 1st & "close" it, then open n' close the fridge door, bolo for the freezer becoming ajar without noticing it! It will always pop open, but is supposed to shut right away, but doesn't close a lot of the time! I've had my freezer items partially thaw out a few times now & have to always be vigilant about making sure it's sealed shut! It does this trick most of the time, but not always! Who can remember this *EVERY* time one opens the doors to this unit!? I had a GE repairman out within the 1st month, it did this trick repeatedly for him! He said it's the design & nothing can be done about it! Basically, I gave it one star for this main reason! I miss my Whirlpool that after 27 yrs developed an untrustworthy "repaired" freon leak! I would stay clear of this troublesome GE model!

This fridge has major defects. The doors do not work. If you open the top door the bottom door swings open and vice versa. If you shut one door the other one opens up. The food keeps spoiling. I am grateful to have been given a free and new refrigerator. However, the lower area of the refrigerator is so low that I practically have to be on my knees to access it. Also, my family and I have hit the tops of our heads on the the area in between the refrigerator and the freezer as we remove items from the refrigerator. My granddaughter has had 2 concussions in her life and it is worrisome to me that she has experienced hitting her head in this refrigerator.

No split adjustable either. Full width only. Door shelves designed for bigger crispers and are not adjustable. Makes access to bottom shelf hard on back. Freezer fan tower does not allow for filling freezer as ice cream stays soft. And NO separate freezer control. ICE maker tray not snug against wall. Old model had split door shelves, separately adjustable. Pathetic design for capacity when replacing 2001 model with similar color.

Two major issues with this fridge; it makes all kinds of really loud noises and it’s shelf configuration is really bad! It wheezes and rambles, don’t know if I have a bad motor on a brand new model or what. And as for clever design, this model really has no room where needed. If I make more room, enough to actually get bottles and jugs on top shelf, then I lose the entire middle shelf because of the drawers! It’s terrible.

Very bad design. The freezer is bigger so the fridge is too low. You have to bend down very far to get anything out of the fridge which is a big problem due to my back issues. Absolutely hate it. Would have gotten the bottom freezer model, but it sticks out two more inches. Bought a new microwave and stove at the same time that also have huge design issues. Can't read the control panel on the microware. Dull silver lettering on black background with a shiny coating. We keep a flashlight handy. Can't read the text around the handles on the stove. They are completely invisible unless we turn the microwave light on (it is mounted over the stove). I can't tell you how completely disappointed I am in all three of these products. Also bought a dishwasher that I'm waiting to have installed. I'm cringing just thinking about the design issues I'll see when its installed.

Spacing and shelves are limited because of size. Controls are mounted right in the middle and hang down blocking and wasting valuable space on the first shelf. Crazy design on the ice maker, its mounted/sits crooked causing ice to always fall all over top level and down onto the second level.

Refrigerator is not up to the same standards as my last GE. Freezer has no light... Temperature readings takes up front space on shelf...Bottle drinks occasionally freeze in the refrigerator.

Terrible design

I bought this refrigerator two months ago. The design is awful. The freezer is too long, starting the refrigerator part too low . You have to bend down so far to get anything, causing back and neck aches. The big hump in the middle makes it difficult to move items across the shelf, and you can not adjust the shelves. When you do there is no room for the draw. Also, there is no light in the freezer and the ice maker is really slow. It takes hours to make one tray of ice. I wish I could trade it in for a better model.

Freezer takes up too much space

Could of been better accommodating with an 18 in.freezer compartment and fresh food doorway could of been better accommodating with smaller vegetable bins so more shelve space could be made to hold gallon size jugs and taller wine bottles. I open fresh food doorway and need to get on floor to see anything on top shelf.great if you stand 5ft. Or under.I had to remove the 2nd shelf to accommodate my milk and wine.hardly have any room for everyday food.don't buy.waste of money.

Unfortunately GE no longer made a side by side without a door water/ice dispenser & needed the Bisque color to match other appliances.This new refrig was delivered today, and we are so unhappy, and now stuck with it. If you are under 4' tall.then the refrig section would easily be accessible. My taller husband must get on his knees access the refrig section. We will just learn to deal with this monster.

No light in the top freezer. Control dial for refrigerator and freezer is high, med,off. There used to be a freezer light and the controls for the refrigerator were numbered so you know where you are at for cooling. Bad, Bad, feature to remove freezer light and control with numbers.

The doors do not close, and the thermostadt had to be replaced once, the unit still does not regulate properly. Either the freezer is too warm or the refridgerator is too cold.

Almost a year

We bought our GE last May and have been putting up with it since then. The major problem with it is that the control of the temperature gradient between freezer and the refrigerator is very poor. In order for bread to stay frozen and have 2-3 month half life in the freezer, the unit has to be set cold enough to freeze milk at the back of the refrigerator. We had technician come and replace the thermocouple but it didn't help and we are still living with the problem. Can't afford to replace it. Also the light and thermocouple are both exposed at top of frig unit and can be easy damaged. I nearly broke the light on several occasion. We bought it because it has a large capacity and very large vegetable draws for an upright-freezer-on-top unit, too bad it wasn't better engineered.

If this unit is well built or not it is too early to tell ... I've had it less than a year. For my first impressions: the shelves are misplaced. If you insert them all in there isn't room for a bottle of wine or a tall milk bottle. I had to remove one of the shelves leaving a base with two drawers and a single shelf. Send ... do some comparison shopping for alternatives with similar features.
