I have had many freezers over the years and this one is the best I have owned. It's big and roomy and designed well. I love the glass shelves and drawers and door compartments. And it is very quiet. I also love that the controls are on the outside on the door. You don't have to open the door to adjust temp, etc.

I love the size and the varied shelving in the freezer. The drawers allow me to store items that will not lie flat on the shelves. The deep space is perfect for turkeys and bulky items. Perfect as a second freezer in the garage.

Bought the smaller GE 14 cubic version 6 years ago and loved it. The freezer was working great. Through a local energy program was able upgrade at a bargain price by trading in my working freezer to the 17 cubic and love it. Same electronic display with temperature control and sensor-alarm. I used the turbo feature when it was first installed and when placing large amounts of meat to freeze. The shelves and 3 drawers (especially the wide narrow one for smaller items) makes it easier to organize and see what I have. And it’s quiet! Love it!

The upright freezer has good flexibility for shelving and has the nice glass shelves - better than the wire ones for sure. It is nice and bright inside the freezer so that will make finding things a bit easier. I like the visible freezer temperature setting on the door and the alarm that sounds when there is an issue with cooling or power failure. It does make some white noise when actively cooling but sometimes is totally silent. We have the freezer in a utility room so the low level white noise doesn’t matter to us. Looks like a solidly built product and has many great reviews which is one of the reasons we purchased this unit over many others. So far very happy with the purchase and look forward to many years of trouble free service.

I chose this particular model of GE upright freezer because of the many good reviews, the decent price, and some very convenient features. Some of these are conveniently located on the outside front of the freezer door which means you don't need to open the freezer to access them. These include temperature control, high temperature alarm, door open alarm, and turbo freeze. The glass shelves, top drawer and 2 large bottom drawers are very handy, as well as the bins on the inside of the door. This freezer has a decent size capacity for a garage freezer without being too large. It's very quiet and has a much better than average energy rating.

It got cold so very quickly. I love the door shelves and the deep drawers too. The shelves are so easy to keep clean! Found out not to shove it too close to the wall as the temperature alarm made us aware of our mistake. Really like it!

I've only had this freezer a few weeks. It replaced a much older one and so I find I greatly appreciate the interior lighting and I like the shelves/drawers inside. I have a much better idea of what I have "in stock" with this freezer. In the largest opening I have added a plastic milk crate for some bagged things, but might not always keep it there, depending on what I have on hand. I like the lit display on the outside about the temp on the inside.

It seems to work fine. There’s some bells and beeps if you leave the door open, which is helpful. That’s been an issue in the past. The door is not interchangeable. You can’t go from left open to write open. Which I didn’t know when I bought it. Otherwise it’s a good freezer

We are very happy with the purchase of this new 17.3 Cu.Ft. freezer. We specifically like the fact that this model has glass and plastic shelves and pull out bins. It fits nicely in our garage and we were able to easily store all of our frozen items.

This is our 2nd unit. The first FUF17DLR lasted 5 years and was damaged by a power surge that affected the control board causing the freezer to slowly warm up over a few weeks. I now have a surge protector with 3 minute startup delay after restoration of power which will hopefully eliminate the power line problems.

This 17.3 GE freezer has great features. The shelve and drawers provide ample storage for our needs, while the outside measurements make it fit well in our laundry room. The outside door digital controls and alarms provide a quick view should there be power outage, visible read of inside temperature, and easy ability to change temperature settings. If not comfortable using the digital control, an inside temperature control can be used. Overall, completely satisfied with this GE FUF17 model.

Absolutely love our new garage kept freezer. This freezer is perfect for our needs. Was so tired of our outdated manual defrost deep freezer. Finally a separate freezer, self defrost, with great lighting, and plenty of room. Love the deep shelves for our boxed goods and meats, but especially love the deep lower drawers to keep our frozen fresh Walleye in. I always freeze the Walleye & other fresh fish my husband catches, in large Ziploc Bags filled w water. Freezing the fish in water keeps the fish super fresh but hard to store, until now. This is where the drawers come in handy.. Even the door has plenty of additional space for other items like perogies, meatballs, ice cream Eclairs, etc. Can't wait for Christmas this year. Baking & storage is going to be so much easier now that we have plenty of space. Added bonus is the ability to lock the freezer door. With the grandkids coming over and sneaking in for a Popsicle, have caught them leaving the door open in the past. Not only can we lock it and know when they're sneaking in, but if we forget to lock the door prior to their visit, the door has a 2 minute alarm that will notify us if one of them leaves it open. Never thought I'd be this happy to have a new freezer, but with this design, I definitely am.

I really like my new garage-ready freezer. Lighting is superb; 17 cf plenty room for my freezer requirements. It is sleek looking and fits just right. I also like that there are two big drawers at the bottom that are plastic, just like in the fridge, instead of one big wire-type drawer that things can fall through, and can be difficult to maneuver. The smaller drawer near the top is excellent too.

It's beautiful, there's so much room. There are drawers and shelves and little cubbies in the door to hold everything. I'll finally be able to find what I'm looking for without letting cold air out for 5 minutes. I have to save on my energy bill for that reason alone.

Easy to use and set up. So far so good. Very excited and fortunate to be able to take advantage of this freezer to store up food. The light inside is very bright awesome features including the alarms when door is left open and when temp goes high. Energy efficient what else can you ask for I do wish instead of glass on the shelves they would have been metal or stainless steel shelves. Although I don’t know how sturdy the glass shelves are they do feel study. Overall I recommend this freezer.

We really like this freezer so far. Been about a month. Temperature outside on door says 0 but I got 3 Temperature gauges inside showing 3 to 5 degrees colder. The seal on the door looks very thin, but it creates a strong seal cause it takes some effort to open. Good bright light inside too. Really quiet. Wish I can clean the condenser coils but they are inexcessable to humans buried in the sides of the freezer. We'll see if any problems occur. Just had it for about a month.

So far this unit has operated fine, no issues. I do have two items I would like to see in future units. 1). I wish they would install a port or access through the back or side wall for my Freezer alarm probe. 2). I wish they would show the actual temperature of the inside of the freezer, when someone looks at the front display it shows the current set point and not the actual temperature inside the box. Someone may think they are looking at the temperature of the products inside and think everything is fine when in actuality there could be an issue. Just my take being a 50 year tradesmen with a strong refrigeration background.

Our new freezer takes up less space than a chest style freezer, is very quiet and holds everything I removed from my refrigerator but is easy to access because of the more than adequate space and shelving. Temperature remains stable and so far, the energy use has been minimal. We are glad we purchased the energy star model.

This freezer meets all our needs. Lots of storage space. I love the ease of setting the temperature on the front of the door. The alarm is very helpful because my husband tends to leave it open. Switched from a chest freezer to this upright freezer. Best move ever. The ability to organize is so much better than the chest freezer that you can actually see what is in there without digging out half the food to see what's in the bottom. The unit is very quiet. This model has the glass shelving which I prefer over the wire shelves. I've only had it a short time but, everything is nicely frozen at the temperature default setting. Plus, it, a nice- looking unit. It also has 3 drawers that are very useful. It has decent capacity at 17.3 cubic feet. I can't comment on how much electricity it's going to use since I've only had it a short time. It is energy star rated.

My family has always bought GE when we wanted reliability and durability. My folks bought a GE frig when I was born in '49 and it was still working well when my mom passed in '00. My recent purchase was the perfect capacity I needed, with options to fit a bit more. Very low noise level. Easy install in minimum floor space. Deep door shelving a real plus Seems very energy-efficient.

This unit saves about 1kW per day, compared to our 20+ year old freezer (1.5kW vs. 2.5kW). Unit feels like it is built well, expecting it to last another 20+ years. Only downside is the door lock mechanism. Properly engaging the lock is a little touchy, if not careful the lock does not fully engage. Also the lock latch is made of plastic, not metal. I appears it may be replaceable, so perhaps this isn't a long term reliability issue.

We love this size. The one we had stopped working. We ordered this a bit larger and like it so much better too. The first thing we noticed together my husband and I was “wow, it is so quiet”! What we like is that it has a lot for shelving and I’ll be able to organize it better, where it won’t look so crowded. We love that the temperature setting is outside instead of bending down and trying to read what temperature it is inside the Freezer. The best of course, is the energy and monies we will be saving..

We have had this freezer for 6 weeks, it replaced a Frigidaire that was past its best. It has clean lines and looks good. I like the Temp gauge on the front. So far it has kept to temp however we found that despite it's size 17.5 cu ft it was not easy to pack. The door shelves are narrower than the Frigidaire and so hold much less. Also the baskets at the bottom are not that deep and so some storage capacity is lost there. It is very quiet and hard to hear if it is running which is a good thing. I do like that the controls are on the outside and you have an alarm for door open.

installed less than a month ago. replaced an older working freezer which had no alarm and I would say it had weak magnets in the door seal. So far my only complaint is the volume of the door alarm. It would be nice if you could increase it. In the last couple years I lost the contents of the freezer twice I would say from user error of either not making sure the door had closed or something sliding off the shelf and pushing the door open. While I noticed the reviews stating the door was hard to open, I felt the strength of the magnets was a good thing (I would say the door IS difficult to open especially when empty, But I also noticed it is way more difficult if you try to open it right after it closes. which does make it difficult if you want to take part of a package and immediately open the door and put the remainder back). So the alarm volume is the only reason I hold back one star. My freezer is in the basement and the alarm is not loud enough to hear upstairs. And what I would say makes it an even bigger disappointment is the fact that this is a "garage ready" freezer. I use my garage for my vehicles but, I know many who don't and rarely go into they're garage so I would say they would need an even louder alarm than I would.

I got rid of my old freezer because it was collecting so much ice everywhere and used a lot of engery. I love this new freezer no more icing up the shelves, the temperature stays constant and I have noticed a huge difference in my electric bill. It is quiet and has a decent capacity.

Seems like a good freezer with many positive features. Door controls are a plus. Ample storage. Surprisingly quiet. Glass shelves. One negative I noticed is the shelves seem flimsy. Probably in a smaller unit the narrower shelves would be stronger. Time will tell if the shelves will hold up. That’s the basis for 4 stars. Also time will tell if it is a good product. I have my doubts about having only a one year warranty. Very disappointing that GE doesn’t have the faith in its products to make multiple year warranties standard.

Freezer is better than I anticipated. I love how sturdy the shelves are. They are nice and deep, holding food easily and stacking nicely. I wasn't sure if I was going to like an upright freezer for our meat, but I am glad we got this one. It holds a surprisingly large amount of food! I decided to get it because of the alarm and locking features. We have had several issues in the past with food going bad because our freezers getting unplugged. I will say the alarm isn't as loud as I hoped, but at least if someone goes out to the garage they would notice it. With the lock I can keep the kids out if I choose.

As deep and wide as the 23 cu ft freezer it's replacing, but about 10 in shorter. Door shelves are a little narrow to fit some containers (such as qt-size deli containers or round oatmeal boxes). Very functional interior shelves and drawers. Door digital display is really nice. Wish alarms would be a bit louder. Overall looks like a good purchase.

We just got this freezer so I can only review what I like. First of all the freezer has a temperature gage in the door visible from the outside. I liked that! My old freezer only had shelves but this freezer has 2 deep draws in the bottom and on drawer for smaller things in the top. I liked that. It also has several shelves in the door and what I liked about them is that there are closed in the bottom so nothing can slip through. When I put my meats back I have a lot more room then in the old freezer.

GE is RELIABLE, TOP QUALITY and this stand up garage freezer (made for low and high temperatures in garages, outside of the inside of the home) is no exception. LOVE the temperature display on the door that can be viewed and adjusted, if necessary, and the ALARM if the temperature were to be higher than it's set. Would recommend this GE freezer to anyone who likes plenty of space, drawers, shelves and door storage. Couldn't ask for a better upright freezer!

The only criticism I have is that the temperature displayed on the outside of the door is the SET temp. It would be nice to also see the actual temperature. I have the unit set to zero degrees, but two thermometers I've used show it slightly above that temp. Overall, it's good.

This was just installed, but I can already tell it's a vast improvement over the Maytag freezer that previously filled the space. It's light and bright, the controls are easy to use and it came to temperature in 4 HOURS! That's amazing. The only thing I would change would be to make the door slots deeper from front to back I'm not sure what I'm actually going to be able to store in those narrow slots.

We like the solid shelves, door bins and drawers ability to improve inventory organization reduce items being lost or misplaced. We filled the freezer more quickly than anticipated.

We have a south facing garage that has temperatures reaching the mid-nineties (F). The garage ready freezer is staying at zero degrees. We had an older freezer that could not keep up with temps reaching 20 degrees leaving ice cream more like a milk shake. We freeze several meals and it's nice to know that our food will stay frozen until needed.

So happy with this freezer which replaced an older standup unit. The size is perfect for our family of 4. Features I love: glass shelves so things don't fall through and is easy to clean. Drawers that keep items organized and tidy. Outside temperature display. Door alarm if left open for too long. Adequate lighting. It does chime every time it is opened but it is a sound you quickly can get used to.

Love the self defrost. No more standing on our heads to defrost a chest type that is not self defrost. Weve had GE allpiances for over our 50 years of marriage. Kitchen range, Refrigerator which we have now within the past two years have bought our second range and refrigerator. Wonderful quality as we gave the old 35 year old frig to a grandson which he is using and have had no issues and the range was in good working condition except we changed the bottom oven element once. I bake almost two to three times a week. It got lots of use. I would always buy a GE.

Our freezer was installed on 11/18/23. It was set to hold at 6 degrees and reached that setting within a few hours. It operates quietly and has so far maintained the set temperature. Perfect size for smaller families who need well-organized storage. Interior light is bright. No more digging in the dark. I like the convenience of the temp monitor on the exterior door, although I'm backing it up with an interior freezer thermometer to check reliability. So far there's a match. Only drawback is opening the door without the freezer itself moving. Not hard for an adult, but younger folk may need some help.

Door hard to open. You have to pull on the handle with so much force that the freezer moves forward. And the temperature gauge on the door shows zero, which is the setting, not the actual freezer temperature. This doesn’t make any sense to me. I do like the glass shelves and drawers. We are quite pleased with this freezer and just bought a second one for our second home. However, I have been surprised at the amount of times that vegetable packages have seemed to thaw slightly and then freeze together hard, so that may be due to the auto-defrosting mechanism. I love the low temp alarm and the ability to change the temperature on the outside of the freezer. It's conveniently organized with 2 bins at the bottom along with a shallow drawer at the top and glass shelves.

Freezer freezes and so far so good. Problem is the freezer legs. They do not grip the floor very well and when you open the freezer door, the entire unit slides. Had to lift and add rubber stoppers to keep unit in place. This failure to stay stabile when opening needs correction. If corrected by whoever manufactures this for GE, I would rate this unit 5 stars

I love the idea of a stand up freezer. However I'm not happy with the one we got. It's supposed to be frost free, but it's nothing but frost, on everything. Also the high temp alarm goes off every four hours like clock work We have a thermometer in the freezer and it reads the same as the door panel at -4°.

Fast to cool, but high temp warning in winter

This is a solid freezer, and definitely provides more space than we previously had with our chest freezer. I appreciate the controls being on the outside of the freezer, and it cools very quickly, which was great when starting out. However, in the few weeks that we have had it, we already got a high temperature warning - unplugging it and plugging it back in a few minutes later made the warning go away, but considering it is December, it makes me a little concerned how the garage-ready freezer will work out in the summer. Additionally, we got this model because it has a door lock, but unfortunately, our freezer did not come with the key, and the website shows them as out of stock, so I am frustrated that we paid extra for a locking door that we cannot lock.

Of course, the freezer does the primary job of freezing food but I have TWO issues with the design! One is that the display on the front door should show the CURRENT temperature of the unit and only show the SET temperature as it is being set! I darn well know what temperature I set and don't need a constant reminder! It would certainly be much more helpful to know the current temperature! The OTHER issue is that the SUCTION of the door requires TWO HANDS(!) to open the unit; one to pull the door and one to haphazardly hold the box to keep from pulling the entire unit forward. The door needs some kind of RELEASE MECHANISM to break the suction! I am looking for a way to nail something in front of the feet to hold the freezer box so I can potentially open the door with only ONE hand!

Top shelf is too close to the second shelf.

The space between the top shelf and the second shelf with the slide out drawer is only 5 inches making the second shelf pretty much useless. The bottom bins are divided so there are two bins.. I would’ve rather had one bin with a sliding divider in it. The bottom bins are very deep. I would’ve rather had them not quite so deep and use that space between the top shelf and the second shelf. The seal around the door is quite tight, which is nice until you go to open it. When you pull on the handle to open the door, it tends to pull the freezer out from the wall.

We've had this freezer for awhile now, I don't remember exactly when we got it. It's aways had a huge problem with frost. One of the suggests to remedy that is to open it less. We have been in the process of moving so it was left closed for at least 2 months. The frost went from the top of the freezer to the top shelf.

Less than a year old and freezer stopped cooling. Display works and light comes on inside but the compressor does not run.

Did not work. Needed fan replacement. Luckily old freezer still ran or we would have lost all our frozen food.

temperature fluctuated from 0-40 degrees F. Nice space and very bright inside light, but a freezer needs to hold an internal temp below freezing!

4 months! I’m so tired of GE appliances not lasting. This freezer only worked for 4 months before it would not cool. I just bought 30lbs of dry ice to keep my food frozen while I wait 5 days for a repai.

Not working after just 30 months

My freezer is 2 and a half years old and it is no longer freezing anything. Our local repair tech said the compressor was bad and it would cost more to replace than the freezer cost! A freezer dying after 30 months is ridiculous. Cannot recommend it!
