GE upright freezer Model FUF21

This is the 2nd exact model and it is an awesome upright freezer with plenty of space. My best friend had bought one so of course I bought one and then my sister bought one. The reason this is my 2nd freezer is my wife took or should I say, I let her take it.

We just had this freezer installed in our garage and love the extra room it has. We replaced a very old freezer and I am happy that I will no longer need to defrost the freezer! Also love that I can lock it if needed. It has leveling feet as well. So far it’s keeping everything frozen appropriately.

This holds so much food! I am in love! We have been looking for a garage-ready freezer and this one fit what we were looking for! Love how the inside is set up! Perfect number of drawers and side shelves fit many products! The light inside and beepi neg if held open too long are features we didn’t have before! So far no frot an holding temperature. Really like the draw bins and glass shelves. Has ample door bins and LED lighting. Particularly like that it is a garage ready freezer since I keep it in my garage because it is very large.

We were amazed at how fast temperature got to minus 6 after it was plugged in. 3 hours and we transfered 21.3 cf of frozen food into our new GE freezer. Especially like controlls on the outside of the door. Glass shelving is awesome.

I replaced a chest style freezer with this standup freezer. It is very nice to open the door and to immediately see and grab the items that you want. I put a rubber door stop below the freezer on the left side to keep the freezer from moving when I open the door.

This freezer is so well thought out. It's. nice to look at also. They've put in just a few drawers for convenience and the rest are glass shelves. The side door has ample storage and there's room for larger items when closing the door. Also, the back/inside doesn't have any odd "bump outs" that prevent you sliding extra utility storage containers in. Love this freezer!

Smooth installation by Tom and Dylan from Oshkosh ACE. Easy loading with these shelves and the glass will be easy cleaning. Quick to reach cool temp and hopefully more energy savings compared to its replacement. It has lots of room and I like the shelf and drawer configuration. It will keep frozen foods organized.

The freezer has rather limited shelf placement options and the separated drawers are very limiting in what can be placed in them. In my experience, freezer stuff is just bulkier. I wish the door shelves were 2 inches deeper. The smaller size of the bottommost shelf is disappointing. Alas, my 22 year old freezer had stopped self-defrosting 4 years ago and I was just too tired to do it again. I hope this unit lasts as long... I don't want to buy another freezer again... Ever!

I was impressed by the space and quick ability to get to a temperature where I could fill up with set aside frozen meat etc., from older freezer. Also like the option to lock as old freezer could open if frozen products shifted against the door.

We just love our new freezer. It's large and has great features such as frost free, garage operations, audible alarming and 2 day power outage insulation. It can operate from 0 - 110F which this freezer will experience since it is located in Northern NY. It's frost free which I'm finding makes it difficult to re-open shortly after closing because it seems to be pulling a vacuum likely to remove any moisture in the air.

I was looking for a frost free freezer that would have enough capacity to handle my freezer needs and this one definitely fills the bill. It has enough shelving and even a shallow drawer for smaller items that would otherwise get lost in a big freezer. It’s a little tall for my 5’ height but my husband helps me out with that.

This freezer is amazing. Going from a chest freezer where no one knew what was buried in its depths to this well lit, spacious upright was life changing. There is zero frost build up. Everything is clearly arranged and easily accessible. The capacity is huge. I like the audible cue that the door is not closed. It is quiet. It is clean and modern in appearance.

This freezer is huge! I'm loving the size! I'll bet thos will be more energy efficient than our last one. The shelving is very convenient, I enjoy having the option of removing extra shelves rather than trying to add more later. I just got it, but the options of temperature vary much more than the off/on option I'm used to.

The glass shelves look nice but frozen foods slide on them making stacking difficult. A bracket for the top drawer was cracked and the drawer collapsed while loading some food for the first time. The shelves on the door aren't very deep making them less useful. There isn't much adjusting options for the adjustable shelves. Only had the unit 8 hours, but there issues were noticable during the initial loading of frozen foods.

Overall it’s a very nice freezer. The glass shelves have no center support so when you set heavy food on them they bow slightly, it’s a bit unnerving but they don’t break.

Had the freezer for a week now and I am so glad we got the 21 cu ft model. It doesn’t take long to fill it up and our other freezers were busting at the seems with things that needed frozen from Christmas. I think the glass shelving make it easy put anything onto the shelves without falling through.

Nearly accommodated all goods stored in a 2 cubic foot smaller chest freezer. Takes less floor space than chest freezer. Door magnet seal is strong...takes 2 hands to open the door. Question: why wait some seconds to reopen the door? Frost free is great. Temp control/ display nice looking...have not used it yet. Comment: the power cord could be 2-3 feet longer...we have the unit positioned at an angle for the cord to reach the receptacle.

This is my first GE freezer and so far, I'm very impressed. Wish the side door holders were wider to be able to hold more items. The glass shelves were a nice feature and the drawers are also something new to me. I've always had good luck with GE purchases in the past, and I'm sure this freezer will be up to the same standards I'm used to.

Love the storage capacity of my 21CF freezer. I like how the top 3 tiers are arranged and the size / depth of the in-door compartments. I also liked the small drawer feature in the middle so that little items can be frozen and not lost in a bigger shelf or drawer. I think I would much rather of had a single wire basket for the bottom tier rather than 2 plastic bins, but so far it has been very usable. I found that it only took about 4 hours for the unit to cool down to proper freezer temp after it was delivered. My previous GE freezer lasted over 35 years and I look forward to this unit lasting just as long

I haven’t had this freezer for long, but is nothing to not like about it. I am around it frequently and I rarely hear it running, and it is set at zero degrees. There is not a speck of frost despite the door being opened frequently. I think you could fit a polar bear in there, but that isn’t what I bought it for. I love it!

Matches the capacity of our old freezer. Purchased this because it is frost free. Like the turbo boost feature to expedite cooling. Really like the temperature control being on the outside and visible at eye level. Have had it only three weeks so a real review would be better one year from now.

This new Freezer is fairly automated. The inside storage is larger than our old Sears Freezer, and takes up less floor space. It is taller. Wife wanted the glass basket & selves.

We love the large capacity of this freezer. We chose the largest capacity available so that we would only need one freezer. The shelves are glass, which are easier to use than wire shelving on cheaper models. We also love that it is frost-free and the temperature control is on the front door, where we can easily see what the temperature is set to (we set ours to 0 degrees F). We haven't noticed any significant increase in our electric bills, so we appreciate that it is energy star rated. Overall, we would definitely recommend this freezer to anyone who is looking for a large upright freezer for their garage.

The drawers are so nice! The freezer is huge and holds so much food. The alert alarm is very loud so it tells you if the freezer is having a problem. The panel on the front is so helpful. I’ve had GE freezers for years now I bought this one three years ago frost free you can’t beat it plenty of room. I was a little skeptical of the glass shells, but they told me I got the better model because of the glass shelves so far no issues with the shelves it’s almost 4 years old. I love the control panel outside of the door Great product. I’ve had the last one over 20 years.

1. It has a temperature display on the door. Unclear if this is the set temperature, or the actual temperature. It displayed 0F as soon as it was turned on. 2. It is huge and has many drawers and shelves 3. The door magnet is strong (some owners complained about this) but I lost all the contents on the Whirlpool 4 times! I suggest installing a toddler latch, and keeping a foot on the bottom of the freezer when opening it. 4. Air flow seems to be really excellent.

I am impressed by the roominess of this upright freezer. I like the door's self- closing feature too. We did have to work a bit to get that operational, had to put shims under the front levelers to get the correct angle for the door to close automatically. The freezer was ready for stocking less than 2 hours after plugging it in to power source. I like the exterior control panel, easy to operate. It controls the temperature and has alarms for open door and high internal temperature, good safety features. My model has the glass shelves and plastic drawers, as opposed to wire shelves.

I love my new freezer! I had a chest freezer for about 30 years and when it quit working, I decided to get an upright freezer. I did a lot of research. Checked out different brands and read reviews. I decided to get this GE freezer because of the size, the fact it is energy star certified, and the positive reviews I read. So far, I think I have made a great choice. After letting it sit for 24 hours, I turned it on and it was at temperature in less than 4 hours. There is plenty of room and it's so nice to be able to see what you have frozen. I am very pleased with my purchase!!!!

Had to make a quick freezer purchase when my old Kenmore gave out. I checked several sites to see what was available and found this GE, I had my sons pick it up for me while I emptied the old freezer. When we got it into place I was first of all impressed with the size overall. I plugged it in and had no choice but to start putting in all my frozen foods. The configuration was very good, storage drawers were convenient and I was impressed with the glass shelves. It started right out cooling to the needed temp. By the next morning it had the food frozen solid, although I was quick enough not to lose anything.

I’ve had this freezer for a few weeks and I really like it! The space is just what I needed. I love the glass shelves and drawer compartments. It didn’t take long to get the initial temperature to where it needed to be (4 hrs. or less), and so far, it’s stayed constant. It has great suction when opening and closing (sometimes it takes a real tug to open). This freezer is replacing a much smaller one, and so far, I haven’t noticed much difference, if any, in our daily utility usage report. Overall, it’s been a great purchase!

I was happy with the spacious interior. The interior light makes it easy to see what I’ve got inside. I did have to buy some organizers for the shelves since I use a vacuum sealer for a lot of my freezer items, but realize that may not be the case for everyone. Overall, I’ve been very happy with the freezer.

Dang, this freezer is nice and big! Looks stately; love the shelves and drawers. There is a lot of extra space in the door too - great for bacon, smaller items. This is our second GE Freezer - we just had it delivered today and definitely prefer the glass shelves over the wire. Nice upgrade.

It Freezes

I have only had this freezer fora year, so I cannot speak to its longevity, but in the time I have had it it has served me very well. There is plenty of storage for meats and garden vegetables that I preserve for the winter months. Last years harvest all fit with room to spare. It seals very well, requiring a strong pull to open (which I like). This freezer is located in my unconditioned garage and has no issue keeping up in the summer heat.

Seems to be working great so far after a few weeks - seals great after closing door and holds a cold temperature that is indicated on the outside of the door - instead of having to open it to check. The Freezer is very light and after putting some food inside, the door opened easier as the seal would move the freezer when I tried to open it. I like this as it means no cold air escapes!

Great quality. Plenty room. Quiet. Delivered on time. Easy set up. Reached required temperature within a few hours. Doesn't take up much space (old freezer was a chest type). According to specs, should be more conservative on utility usage. Love the glass shelves. Will help with any spillage. Love the number of shelves, that they are adjustable and all the bens on the doors really come in handy.

A set screw for handle attachment was missing so we used one of the spares to complete the installation. I have to conclude that spares are provided because of known wear and/or failure. This anticipating a future need, please send spare set screws to me asap. I surmise that these are not standard nor easily found at local hardware stores. Also, please adopt a practice of taking packaging materials with you upon completion of installation.

Big capacity and easy setup

So far, so good. It has been in operation in our garage for about two weeks now and it's working well. We've already had a couple of hot days, and the freezer worked just fine. Even though we looked at the measurements when we bought it, we didn't realize just how big it was - it's bigger than our refrigerator. For the difference in price between this one and the next size down, I think it's worth getting the bigger unit. Setup was as easy as plugging it in, attaching the door handle (very easy - two set-screws), and removing the packing material from the shelves and bins.

I love my new freezer. The capacity really fits my needs. I had a much smaller one for years and was always wishing that I had more space. The glass shelving is great and the space in the door has room for lots of single items that would use up a lot of shelve space. This GE freezer looks great and even though it is large it doesn't take up much more space in my garage than my smaller one did. I recommend GE and this freezer to anyone shopping for a new freezer.

This is the second freezer of this model series we now own. We went with the larger capacity as we figured it was well worth the price. The garage freezer series works as it states. Have never had any issues with our original and don't plan to with this new one either.

The product I purchased replaced a unit that was apx 20cu and this is 21cu.. I do like most of it, but due to being a little taller and not as wide, I loose some space in the width and in the door shelves. They are also not as wide. The drawer on the bottom is 2 drawer instead of one drawer. This also limits some space, so even though it is 21 cu vs 20 cu, I feel I have lost some area. Now saying that, I will just need to stack differntly, and maybe get the RV bars you put in a fridge to keep things on the shelf if I Stack high. The produce is doing what it needs to, and that is freeze the food.

I bought this upright freezer to replace one that failed after 20 years. I really like that this is a garage ready model that will withstand our terrible summer triple digit heat. We seem to have an extended power outage each winter, so the 48 hour "stay frozen" feature will lessen the time I would need to run it on a generator. The shelving is nice, easy to clean glass. The see through drawer in the upper section is great for bagged vegetables and fruit or small items. The open door alert chime is nice. The door seals very well. Overall very happy with the freezer. Hope it has a long life.

Good reviews . Like that it is Garage Ready. Hard to find the interior dimensions. The shelves are less deep than our 20 year old Kenmore . Likewise. The door shelves do not hold nearly as much. The alarms which were important to us are so soft they would not wake a mouse sleeping next to it.

The freezer size is great as advertised. The door is extremely tight to the extent that you have to hold on to the freezer body to ensure it does not topple over. This could be a safety issue. The shelving is poor. For the height of the fridge, there should have been at least one more shelf or at least the option to configure the location of the shelves.

I just bought and installed this upright freezer and so far it's good. Large capacity and looks great. I am giving this product 3 stars because I don't know much about it yet. Hopefully, I can enjoy it for many years to come and it will be one of the last freezer I purchase. Manufactures don't make appliances like they used too. Simple design with limited to no "electronics" will help to make the product last. As a customer, making a lasting and reliable product will keep us coming back!

This has the same footprint as all the other freezers that I’ve had the past 30 yrs, except it’s about 3-4” taller (same width/depth). But, it doesn’t hold nearly as much as my other freezers! The shelves are very shallow, the pull out drawer is too high for me to see into (because it’s above my head - I’m 5’2”), it only has 4 shelves on door (all older models had 6) and those shelves are not deep enough to hold all our quart mason jars! We can only store 12 mason jars in the door shelves as opposed to 36 in older models. The 2 bottom drawers are disappointing as they are odd shaped and don’t hold much since they’re not square nor as deep as in the older models. The spacing between the shelves is too high and wastes a lot of space. So it doesn’t meet all our needs like all the older models - which almost defeats the purpose of having an upright freezer. The door is VERY HARD to open for everyone because the suction is so strong.

Junk compressor went out after 4 years. To get it replaced was quoted over 1300. Which is 300 hundred more than I paid for the freezer. Will never buy a GE product again.

Don't buy this freezer

I was able to fit more in our older freezer that was 19 cubic feet. The shelves in this are too far apart and can't be adjusted enough. I had to buy containers to put everything in so that things wouldn't fall out when we opened the freezer. Also since this freezer is taller we know need a step stool to be able to reach the top shelf. We are sorry that we bought this one. If it wasn't such a hassle to return it we would take it back.

Everything spoiled from high temperature defect

My freezer is 3 years old and I love the design. It was working perfectly until I got back from vacation to find it had totally melted down and everything was spoiled. I presumed that the door must have been left adjust, cleaned the really gross mess up and let it alone for a few days. It appeared fine and I put new food in it. Three days later the high temperature alarm went off and everything was spoiled once again. I have an extended warranty but I don’t think I could ever trust this freezer again.

Freezer broke after being in use for only 2 months. They came out to repair it and had to order parts. They then didnt show up for the scheduled appointment to install the parts. It has nearly taken as log to get the freezer fixed as I have had it working.
