Excited about GE freezer
AJ Madison · 5 out of 5 stars
We love the look of our new chest freezer. We have always had great success with GE products. We will put it to work now. Our other upright GE freezer is still going strong after 42 years!

Certainly, here's a review for your GE® 15.7 Cu. Ft. Manual Defrost Chest Freezer (model FCM16SLWW): "I've had the GE FCM16SLWW freezer for a while now, and I'm very satisfied with its performance. This freezer provides ample space for storing all my game meats, including fish, moose, deer, and mountain goat meat. One of the standout features for me is the adjustable coldness setting, which allows me to tailor the temperature to the specific requirements of the items I'm storing. It's been reliable, keeping everything frozen as it should. The manual defrosting process is straightforward, and overall, this freezer has been a great addition to my hunting and fishing needs. Highly recommended!" I hope you find this review helpful!

Customer photo 1Handsome, simple, spacious, gratifying
AJ Madison · 5 out of 5 stars
We purchased our new GE freezer, after an hour's worth of research online, to replace the 60-year-old freezer that a friend gave to me some 40 years ago, which died suddenly one warm morning. The new GE chest freezer, needless to say, represents a fine upgrade. Already we have it about a third filled with berries, garden produce, local grass-fed beef, and more--yet, alas, already there's some frost accumulating along the inside of the frame of the lid. Apart from that, we are delighted.

Customer photo 1Quiet & Cold
AJ Madison · 4 out of 5 stars
This freezer is one cubic ft larger than the one it replaced. We noticed right off that it is much longer and not nearly as wide as our prior freezer. Not sure if that is good or bad. We have had it about a month now and there is already ice forming on the inside walls. The food inside freezes quickly and solid. It has a green light on front of freezer which is excellent so I can always glance and make sure the unit is still on . The inside has a little ledge and I wish it had a removable rack that I could place to help keep smaller items from falling into the bigger freezer area. The 2 baskets that come with the freezer appear sturdy enough and slide easily. The suction on this unit is amazing. If I close it and then try to open it because I forgot something, I have to wait a minute for the suction to release. It has a nice lock by the handle. There is ample lighting inside the freezer. All in all, we are very pleased with our purchase.

2 baskets- biggest size found locally
AJ Madison · 4 out of 5 stars
Purchased this freezer after discovering only days before our daughter’s graduation party that our 40 yr old freezer was toast! It is overall a bit narrower (front to back) and not as deep as old one but the 2 baskets were essential to me! Wish the shelf of the converter side had a wall to keep items in place like old one had. I’m sure it will be much more energy efficient and hope it will last another 30+ yrs!

Great product! Very durable. I hope it lasts for 20 years. Hint... place it on red masonry bricks 4" above the concrete floor, as it will prevent metal corrosion and get fresh air below the bottom. The 4" riser bricks also give you elevation for draining after cleaning!

Thicker walls equals less capacity.
AJ Madison · 4 out of 5 stars
I had an older freezer that was having problems staying cold. The new freezer is 3” longer than the old one and the other dimensions were the same. I bought the new one and in was still in the box. The appliance store didn’t have one on the floor so I couldn’t check the inside. When I got it home and opened it up, I found the walls were thicker than the old one and it had less capacity. I use it to store my ice blocks that I use for my shaved ice business. I could store 4 blocks in a row but the new one will only allow for 3. This is a great reduction in the amount of ice I can store. It would have been nice to know the inside dimensions as well as the outside dimensions. Other than that it’s been a really good freezer up to now.

Freezer is too new to give an accurate rating.
AJ Madison · 5 out of 5 stars
We purchased this freezer for the larger capacity it has over our previous smaller chest freezer. Pleased with the performance and extra space it provides. Also nice to be rated garage ready. Nice to have the interior lights when the lid is opened too. So far very pleased with our new GE chest freezer. Check back with me in two years for a more accurate rating.

Perfect size, moveable trays, bright interior
AJ Madison · 5 out of 5 stars
This is a perfect size for our family of 4 for storage of meat and excess prepared food for our family of 4. We went down the route of adding this as our second deep freezer, allowing for a half to whole calf to be stored for use. Easy to reach the bottom for myself and wife, 6'3" and 5'9" respectively. Can be a little too tall for a shorter individual. The Garage ready is nice to allow for the hotter months until I can get it in a controlled temperature environment.

Awesome chest freezer
AJ Madison · 5 out of 5 stars
With it now up and running nestled in a area of the garage I don’t know it there really. Absolutely quite, I have to check from time to time if its really on and freezing, and it is. I guess i’m so used to hearing the older appliances making noises. As for the size, its a beast to make sure you have the room. As for the interior, holy hell can I store an abundance of food. I have 2 fridges and it took all the freezer items and was still asking for more to store. Not sure why I waited so long. For the price, very justifiable. If your looking for a deep freezer, don’t hesitate. Just keep in mind of space.

Great product, gets cold fast. Love that it has a unique lock on it because I have a young inquisitive son. The lock is a 5 sided shaft lock, so you can't easily open it without the key provided and they provide 2 keys. Lots of room in the freezer, it will easily hold a few months of food, OR half a cow OR 2 large pigs.

AJ Madison · 5 out of 5 stars
Nice, roomy freezer. We have only owned it for about 10 days, so far, so good. Within 24 hours of installation, we loaded it with a 1/4 side of beef. I think we should have waited maybe 48 hours because it took 2 days for the red light to go off. Temperature inside was 4 degrees above zero and the temp dial was all the way up. After two days the light went off and temp was registering 5 degrees below zero. Now I have the dial at 3 and inside temp is registering just below zero. Very happy with my purchase.

First freezer
AJ Madison · 4 out of 5 stars
This is our first chest freezer. We are using it in the garage and it stays very, very cold. It has plenty of space and came with 2 baskets that sit up top for organization. The only reason it has four stars instead of five is that we have only had it set up for about a month or so. We hope it lasts years, so this is too soon to tell if it will actually accomplish the goal we have for it.

It's a miracle of modern science and manufacturing! Who knew thermodynamics could be so awesome?! You plug it in and the inside get cold, not just a little cold, really cold! It's especially amazing at keeping stuff that you want to keep cold, well, really cold.

The freezer is frost free and has a tight suction on the top lid to prevent cold loss with a long-lasting LED light inside the cover. The only con is it sits low on the ground and you hae bend over much to get to the bottom.

AJ Madison · 5 out of 5 stars
I originally ordered a smaller freezer last May and was not able to get it. I moved up to the 15- it is huge but filled it up very quickly. It gurgles not sure if that is normal but red light is not on. Food is frozen solid- not looking forward to defrosting but everything else is great-Top dents easily be careful. Glad I upgraded to large unit.

Nice sized freezer, easy to access items inside
AJ Madison · 5 out of 5 stars
This freezer was purchased to replace another smaller (7.0 CF) GE freezer. The old freezer was just not large enough anymore, but was still working fine after 15 years of constant use in a garage. The new freezer has some very nice features the old one didn't - it's more energy efficient, it has 2 removeable baskets, there is a light under the lid making it easier to see what is in the freezer, and it is quieter, although this isn't a major deal since it's in a garage. It seems to be working very well and holding the interior temperature as expected.
donfhiker · Jul 4, 2021

AJ Madison · 5 out of 5 stars
Great freezer! It replaces a freezer that was old and freezing well but producing lots of ice inside. The new one produces little ice and frost. Roomy, but takes up a bit of floor space compared to our old 15.1 cu ft chest freezer. Like the fact it can tolerate a large range of temperatures since it is in our basement garage. Would have like an extra basket or two.

Plenty of space
AJ Madison · 5 out of 5 stars
We love the larger chest freezer and extra space for storage this model provides our family. Although we were concerned intially with the little bit of ice near the top/lid that accumulated shortly after we began using the freezer, there is really very little accumulation beyond that and it can be scraped off easily every few months. No complaints - great product!

Great for a side of beef, with some space to spare
AJ Madison · 5 out of 5 stars
We wanted a quality chest deep freezer in our garage to store a side of beef from a rancher. We have been happy with GE quality in the past and they could quickly deliver a fairly large capacity freezer to our rural home. Although it does not have automatic defrost or quick freeze mode, it will serve our needs very well in the garage. If they had an even larger chest available in stock, I would have chosen for extra capacity.

It’s a chest freezer, what can I say about it? It just sits there and does what it’s suppose to do, freeze.

So roomy
AJ Madison · 5 out of 5 stars
Clean and slick, nice fit and finish, my first lighted chest freezer, and first with red and green temp monitor lights. It took months to arrive due to covid 19 causing complete buy-out of existing stock of freezers nation wide, but it was so worth it. My freezers stay on a well covered back porch on the gulf coast, so the compressor/cooling always outlasts the case. This one seems better suited than the thin paint on bare steel I normally find on freezers. This one may beat them all.

Love, Love, the freezer!
AJ Madison · 4 out of 5 stars
My only wish is for a better way to organize, such as baskets, the items placed in the lower level. Otherwise, the freezer is absolutely wonderful!

Would Absolutely Buy Again!
AJ Madison · 5 out of 5 stars
Clean looking freezer. Simple enough. Storage layout is very nice. Baskets are great. We did purchase another basket to keep the most commonly used foods accessible. We are a family of 7, so the extra space is great to have. I bought a thermometer to check the temp throughout the freezer, and it has a consistent temperature everywhere. We have been very pleased.

ChiChi88 · Dec 27, 2020
Excellent large capacity freezer
AJ Madison · 5 out of 5 stars
Freezer was installed in an attached garage where temperatures may see single digits but hopefully not below 0F. Width is nearly 65", 18" wider than similar freezers so plan accordingly. Not as deep or tall as our current freezer of similar capacity although the inconvenience remains for lost/buried items at the bottom. Taller folks such as us may find it easier to dig around in the freezer by raising it with proper support in place. Will need to devise an organization system. Temperature control conveniently located in front. Fan is in the rear where it is less likely to be obstructed. Electrical plug with 3-prong is straight, not the wall-hugging type that can interfere with use of the other outlet so be sure there is room behind the freezer so the plug does not bind. Lid is a bit heavy but forms a good seal for efficient operation. Cools quickly to 0F at setting 4. The manual defrost is not an issue for us. Baskets are deep enough to store item for quick access.

Freezer is as good
AJ Madison · 4 out of 5 stars
The freezer itself works great. The lock on it is less than desirable. It is very cheaply made an I cannot lock it. The key is a piece of plastic, broke one trying to lock the door but it just won't lock.
Noneyanone · Dec 24, 2020
Very Nice Freezer
AJ Madison · 4 out of 5 stars
Although, we have only had this massive freezer for two days it is very big measuring 65" long with an inside depth of 28.5" deep and a width of 18 3/4" ( It is a bit wider but I measured it for hanging baskets) wide for stackable baskets. It also has an audible and visual temperature alarm. Although, this is a bit bigger than we needed, we went ahead and purchased it because our main chest freezer was finally dying and needed a replacement. In addition, the other models were delayed for up to 3 plus months due to Covid wrecking havoc everywhere. The only complaints I have about this model are it doesn't come with wheels, it only comes with two hanging baskets ( but more can be purchased online), and it's not energy star compliant which is a bit strange, especially in 2020. Nevertheless, it's still a great chest freezer as long as you have the needed room and the available budget. I hope this review makes you smile and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone out there looking at this great chest freezer.

The freezer has done well so far. It holds a lot. We did not like the two small baskets that came. They seem a little chintzy and a third one would have been very helpful.

We placed our chest freezer in our garage. Within hours it was already cooling down. Very excited of how much room there is. Enough for our extra turkeys, steaks & chicken plus just ordered a half of pig. Very energy efficient as well we have not seen any increase over the last 2 months since delivered.

I chose this model simply because its what I had before. Previous one lasted 20yrs, and it was in my shop. The extreme hot and cold temps didn’t affect it one bit. So time will tell with this new one.

About the details
AJ Madison · 3 out of 5 stars
Freezer holds plenty. Seal and indicator light failed shortly after purchasing. Frost is definitely an issue but would be expected with a low quality seal. Product loyalty is about the details in today's world with the expectation of replacement of major appliances more than once before children are of age to be on their own.

Good design
AJ Madison · 3 out of 5 stars
I appreciate the thought that went into the design of this unit. Instead of being just a big clunky looking box, it has some nice curves. It also has the thermostat controls easily accessible on the lower front, which is a big plus in the tight space I have. The temperature lighting system (red for too warm, green for OK) is also a nice addition. I purchased this freezer to replace a 60 year old Coronado. My only complaint is that it was made in China. If it had been made in the US, I would have given it 5 stars.

No audible alarm
AJ Madison · 2 out of 5 stars
It keeps meat cold so far. Not happy that it does not have an audible temp alarm like the model from 2021 did. That's a huge loss. The light on the inside could be brighter.

Junk product
AJ Madison · 1 out of 5 stars
I have owned this freezer since April 2020 and already needs a compressor. 4.5 years and that is all we can get out of these products. My parents have a freezer from 1977 and it still works to this day without any issues. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Find an old one they work forever.

Doesn’t maintain temperature
AJ Madison · 1 out of 5 stars
We purchased the GE chest freezer primarily based on the reputation of the GE brand. After setup we set the control dial to about half way. After a couple days we placed items in. Then the misadventures started. It went back to 40 degrees. No matter where the control dial was set over the next few weeks it would vary from -20 to 40 degrees. We’ve contacted GE service which will be out in a few days. Lets hope they will be able to repair the issue.

Terrible. Not quality
AJ Madison · 1 out of 5 stars
We have had this freezer for approx 2 years. It had stopped working, the parts have been on back order/out of stock since JUNE! We have a huge piece of junk that we can't fix and need replaced.

Heavy Lid
AJ Madison · 1 out of 5 stars
Lid too Slams Shut Fast! Love the size and most feature of freezer. However! The GE Freezer lid is so heavy it slams shut fast! Be careful, food near top can be crushed along with fingers near lid can be smashed too if near lid when lowering lid! You have to hang onto the lid to lower the lid slowly.
