We love our new refrigerator. Overall the size is good not giant and actually very stylish look. Big freezer and side departments and shelves look very compact and have big wide space. Only thing is me personally not really satisfied with heights of shelves. They are wide but not giving space for tall lemonade jars or gallons sizes. But overall it’s 👍🏻

Really well-designed and works great This fridge came with the house, and I’ve honestly been really happy with it. The design is super thoughtful, tons of space and the shelving layout makes it easy to keep everything organized. There’s a spot for all the essentials without it ever feeling cluttered. It’s been running smoothly and looks great in the kitchen too. Pleasantly surprised by how much I like it!

The new fridge works perfectly. It's quiet and runs smoothly keeping the contents super cold. It's more energy efficient than my last fridge. The shelving doesn't offer much for configuration changes but it's spacious and the setup is actually pretty optimally designed for myself. Definitely recommend this fridge for someone looking for a new one.

I'm a very satisfied customer in several respects. First, the stainless steel doors are easier to clean than other stainless steel appliances I've had in the past. Secondly, the interior design allows for more food storage than I expected. Thirdly, it is attractive and very quiet. Lastly, I try my best to buy American whenever possible. GE is the best option for American made products.

I finally decided I don’t like a bottom freezer so went back to a top freezer style and I love it! I also like ONE door and there’s soooo much room inside and on the door. Bottles can stand upright and there’s so much storage space on it. Loving it all plus the ice maker works great! No problem when it’s where it’s supposed to be! Very happy with my choice.

Love how much this refrigerator holds with all the shelving! The way it's arranged definitely helps give a large capacity. It's very quick to cool and yet it's also very energy efficient. The only thing that could turn this into a 5/5 is if it had a water dispenser. It has the water line for ice which is great but having the dispenser as well is very beneficial if you go through lots of water, I use it for making formula and my baby eats a ton 😂. Overall a great product!

This fridge absolutely nails it when it comes to cooling. Items stay crisp, drinks are chilled fast, and it keeps a consistent temperature throughout—no hot spots or surprises in the back corners. The storage space is okay. It holds a reasonable amount for everyday needs, but if you have a big family or love to bulk-shop, you might find yourself playing fridge Tetris more often than you'd like. Solid performer for cooling, with enough space for the basics. If ultra-roomy storage isn’t a top priority, this could be a great fit.

It is very sturdy and has a built-in ice maker factory installed. Typically on these models you need to buy an ice make kit, but this one had it built in. Very happy with purchase!

Great refrigerator plenty of room love the adjustable shelves and love the ice maker definitely by far a great appliance I would absolutely recommend to anyone my one and only complaint would be the noise it makes I’ve been told that it is completely normal and was given the reason why I go back and forth on if it would have effected my decision on purchasing I keep telling myself I’ll get used to it and eventually won’t even notice it but I’m going on almost 2 months since purchasing it and I have to be honest it still really annoys me at times but I have definitely noticed it is by far a huge difference on how much since purchasing so I go back and forth still but if I were to give my honest answer on right now today if it would have effected my purchase I would say no and I still would have purchased the same refrigerator because other than that I absolutely love it

Nice enough fridge. Drawers & door shelves are very spacious. I actually thought that the door was missing a shelf at first but found out that the empty space was just an alternate place to put the butter compartment. I decided to order another butter compartment to fill the void as I run a daycare so I need every inch of storage space I can squeeze out of it. That being said, I'm not too impressed with the shelf placement options in the main part of the fridge. That's one thing I miss about old-school fridges, a lot of them had shelf hangers running the full height of the fridge so you could adjust the shelves a million different ways until you got them "just right". This fridge basically has 2 options & each option is inconvenient for its own reasons. It makes a difference too that I typically need to store 4 gallons of milk in the fridge at a time as well as a couple gallons of juice (in addition to everything else) so I guess I would say this fridge is not ideal for a daycare or a large family but as far as beauty, quality & mechanics goes I have no complaints and would probably recommend it to a friend!

A good replacement

I bought this fridge as a replacement for a Frigidaire stainless steel fridge that was installed 20 years ago. The configuration of the GE is different than the Frigidaire. Its freezer is larger but at the expense of Fridge space. Also, the cold cut/cheese drawer is very shallow and the shelves in the GE are not really adjustable. The GE has much larger door shelves that hold gallon containers. Many have complained about the GE noise level, but that did not bother me at all. The freezer does not have a light, that is something that should be addressed considering the price point of this fridge.

We purchased this refrigerator to replace a 37 years old Kenmore and have had it for about 2 months. Overall, it has been a good purchase considering the limited supply due to the pandemic. We are still getting used to the differences in the refrigerators. The ice maker works well but at times does not seem to keep up with our demand and usage. I like the stainless steel appearance(previous one was almond color) and fits in well with my other appliances. The crisper drawers are very deep and hold a lot of food. However, the spacing of the shelves seems somewhat narrow (because of the deep crisper drawers) and does not allow for taller items. The thermostat at the front of the refrigerator blocks usage space on that shelf. I realize I was spoiled having the same refrigerator for many years and we actually put it in the garage since it is still working.

Would be a 5 star rating if the freezer door would not pop open/loosen it's seal when closing the main door. It would be nice if there could be some kind of air relief system to resolve this issue. There needs to be a light in the freezer (LED).

I ordered two appliances, GE Refrigerator Model # GIE21GTHFWW and GE Microwave Model # JNM7196DK6WW, installed 6/4/2021. Microwave was installed properly and operating great, 5 stars no negative issues. Positives for the refrigerator: large storage space in the doors and the refrigerator compartment. Setting the temperature control to the recommended setting, temperatures are perfect. Ice maker works properly. Refrigerator looks good in my small kitchen. Negatives: refrigerator noisier then expected while running, I can live with it. I would have preferred a light in the freezer section and a split and adjustable top shelf in the refrigerator, but I knew it was not available when I ordered, maybe in the future models. I gave the refrigerator 4 stars. Refrigerator required the doors to be reversed, extra cost. After the delivery men left, I noticed the doors were not aligned properly and one of the screws appeared to be stripped or misaligned, poor workmanship by one of the delivery men, not the same person who installed the microwave. I gave the delivery 2 stars. After looking at the warranty, under WHAT IS NOT COVERED: Improper installation, delivery or maintenance, may be used as excuse not to send someone out to adjust the doors. I will call customer service anyway after it has been in operation for about two months, who knows they may send someone.

Excellent equipment, for a while we had a smaller refrigerator. me and my wife were going crazy because we had to make more trips for groceries that we wanted plus with all this COVID-19 issue it just wasn't safe. So we decided to go shop in a store nearby, instantly as soon as we looked at this one we knew this was it. Let me tell you, plenty of space in the shelves and drawers, freezer is huge plus we don't have to worry about ice trays because the ice maker works great. stainless steel gives it a great look and overall it's a kitchen upgrade. Very happy with the purchase and looking forward for it lasting a good while.

My wife does not like the 'noises' and the controls in front that block items on the top shelf. The crisper drawer keeps falling out. It looks like some foam was 'stuffed' in there to prevent this. A screw in the freezer handle just broke off. Not a good piece of metal I suppose. Our 'useless' service contract does not cover this.

We are pleased with the performance of this refrigerator. It cools very well. My only complaint is that it is smaller than I would've liked (I bought online, so didn't realize how small it would be inside) and I wish that the guides for the shelving in the refrigerator were at slightly different heights. It's impossible to store gallons of milk, boxes of wine or 2L soda bottles on the glass shelves when all three shelves are in. You will have to store those items in the door, which is the warmest place in any refrigerator.

Received the delivery approximately 530pm. By 730, Freezer was at just above 0 (3) and Refrigerator was at 37. Not quite as large as I thought, but quiet, COLD, and doesnt leak! Last one, not GE, door seals continuosly leaked, causing self defrost to continuosly run, and creating puddles at the base of the fridge.

Yes, the freezer does not have a light, but who cares because you could literally land a plane in it!! The crispers are oversized and that’s what I needed because I eat lots of fresh food. The drivers were on time, polite and courteous. I don’t use the ice maker but this fridge is quiet as a church mouse. I keep a thermometer in the refrigerator, so I can confirm that the temp is right on point. I read a lot of reviews on this fridge before I purchased it and what most consumers didn’t like, was not a deal breaker for me. It’s a beautiful fridge and all my food is cold. Model # GIE21GSHESS. I think this is worth the money .

Our old GE was nealy 25 years old, so it is great to have a quiet new model that has great door space. The freezer compartment is large and handles everything we need. The only challenge is getting used to a top shelf in the Refrigerator section that doesn't handle tall items well because of how far down the freezer extends into the space...but having a hardy door that can handle heavy items helps...we just need to get used to the changes! Bottom line, a brand-new, bright, spacious and fully functioning Refrigerator/Freezer is a great thing to have!

A thirteen year old side by side refrigerator came with the house when we bought our home. It was nice enough but we hated the freezer compartment as it was difficult to see what we had and at times hard to maneuver to get things in and out given its close proximity to the back wall of the kitchen. Water filters were pricey in spite of the fact that they would last a decent amount of time. We are very practical or pragmatic folks and not greatly impressed by lots of bells and whistles believing that they are just more things that could go wrong. So, we did some research for several months and decided on the GE we bought given both the age of what we had and a desire for ease of use. We love our new refrigerator!

I have always purchased GE products and have been happy with them. My choice of this refrigerator was based on size, for the space I had. Very similar to past products; however, I am disappointed with the shelving. They can only be adjusted at two levels, not in numerous increments, as in past models. Door storage is excellent. The wire shelf in the freezer does not meet the back wall; therefore, small items fall or get caught between the shelf and wall.

The refrigerator is okay. The top shelf is hard to get a jug of milk into or any item of similar height. The icemaker is poorly designed. I have not gotten a full bin of ice yet and the cubes are never full sized. It takes this forever to produce ice. Very disappointed.

Disappointing

I recently replaced my previous GE refrigerator, which I had for 22 years and never had a problem. This new refrigerator's design is not nearly as good, as the top shelf is limited in height by the light fixture and controls running from the back to the front. The shelves in the door are not as wide. The freezer door just started squeaking very loudly every time it is opened. I am very disappointed with this product.

The freezer door pops open every time you close the refrigerator door; sometimes the freezer door closes but sometimes stays open. The refrigerator doesn't have a water filter so the ice tastes terrible.

Front controls& large drawers reduce shelf storage

We have been disappointed with this refrigerator, and wish that GE would return to the design of 1990, as that model was much roomier. The front placement of the controls makes it difficult to place large milk bottles on the top shelf, and makes it look darker, as well. The crisper drawers are extra large, which takes space from the shelves. Two-liter bottles do not fit on the top shelf, and must be placed on the door, In our old refrigerator, the deli drawer could be moved to the left or right, depending on which way the door opened. This is not an option with the GIE21GMLES. The only nice features are (1) it is not noisy, and (2) it has an ice maker, which is a new feature for us. It is a reliable refrigerator, but the awkward storage space is frustrating.

I was disappointed not to find a freezer light. Even our old cheaper Kenmore had a freezer light. And the high pitched noise (inverter?) is almost unbearable when it comes on. Otherwise, it's got lots of room and I'm hoping to get used to the noises, it has lots of noises. Ice maker noise was expected, but motor noise is louder than our 20 yr. old refrigerator.

Bought what fits

We had a French door previous but at 20 yo it was starting to die. I wanted another French door but could not find anything to fit under the cabinet . I only got it yesterday but because freezer is top we have to bend to get anything out At 60 & older this is a little difficult, especially after being used to just reaching in Although the product seems nice we had to remove a whole shelf just to fit milk container and Hawaiian Punch container so now I lost shelf space I understand my problems are not GE’S fault but if they or any other frig company for that fact would make a size standard for older homes under cabinet

Fridge has wide storage in door which is nice. However, the options to rearrange the inside shelving is limited, thus making it difficult to store milk containers or other such items on the shelve. Motor is extremely loud as well.

Shelves are not adjustable. There are just so many shelves for the slots available. Once cannot stand a bottle of wine (or anything of this height) upright on a shelf unless you take omit a shelf completely. The designer should have given the purchaser more options for shelf abjustment. This model is twice the price of the GTS model which is very similar in size. The main difference is the "cheese" drawer which the GTS does not have. Therefore you pay double for a drawer that usually comes standard with most refrigerators .

I had to take out the middle shelf because I couldn't stand anything up. Even a gallon of milk wouldn't fit. Also, I don't like that the dial for the temp is right in the front because my child keeps messing with it. Freezer is nice and big but the ice just clumps up when it's made.

No Freezer Light Indicated on Spec's

I am upset that I needed to be aware of no freezer light indicated anywhere on the spec's or anywhere for the refrigerator/freezer I received. I had a freezer 30 years old or slightly older that had a light in the freezer and even before that I never had a refrigerator/freezer that did not have a light so I wasn't aware of I purchased one with no light in the freezer. In this day and age how weird!!! I have always trusted General Electric for having the best appliance possible and have always thought them to be up front with descriptions, now I know better. How unfortunate for me to trust since I grew up with all GE products.

Smelly fridge

This fridge just really smells you know it’s brand new less than 6 months old and already the defrost timer goes out you have to tear the back off and pull it out just to get to the timer because it has no features that slow you to do diagnostics or anything of that nature with the door switch or cold control knob . You buy a new fridge and al the sudden it’s as though I’ve gone backwards in time to 1981 as far as features go but on closer inspection it becomes apparent that this fridge isn’t from 1981 because if it were it would probably still be running . In 1981 he made a decent icebox and took some pride in there products it is painfully obvious that he no longer takes any pride in these machines . Nobodies proud of garbage and that’s what this machine is . It just really smells and I’m curious wether you guys actually sharpen the edges of the metal pieces you put on these stainless steel paperweights, because they are sharp enough to shave with

Hard pass I wish I wouldn’t have traded my other one. Only one temperature dial so back of fridge freezes good and if you set it to the recommended the freezer leaves everything soft. Capacity is crazy you can’t even put a gallon of milk anywhere but the side because the temperature thing is in the middle. Not a whole lot of space between the shelf’s . And as previously mentioned the temperature makes it not very efficient. Ok for a garage fridge bit wouldn’t buy it as a main. Mine was free thru a government program and I had to give them my old one would not do it again. It certainly isn’t the same capacity of my other. Actually looking at others because this definitely does not meet my needs. Oh and did I mention no freezer light .

We just bought this top freezer unit because everything else was too deep for our small kitchen. We replaced our 15 year old fridge. First thing we noticed was the black box! Why? And fully visible steel screws everywhere! Then we were REALLY disappointed because the freezer compartment has NO LIGHT!!! WHY??!! We went with GE believing it was a top quality brand. The new glass top range looks great but the drawer broke the first day! At least the customer service answers calls. We wanted the full suite and decided on GE. It is only OK :(

Bought brand new, worked ok 1st day. Had it 4 days and freezer isn't cold, ice maker stopped working day 2 and fridge isn't very cold either. Trying to get service earlier than the 11-12 days I was told is on the schedule. Trying to eat all my melted ice cream and thawed frozen dinners.

Terrible interior design limits storage capabilities and literally "Wastes" space ! You can not move the shelves as you can with other modern refrigerators to support your own home purchases and preferences for groceries. The placement of the thermostat and it's large size also limit use of this refrigerator. Probably the worst refrigerator I have ever owned. Poor quality , handles are loose and it's brand new and you constantly have to push to be sure that the fridge and freezer are closed. What a disappointment ! Do not waste your $$$ on this fridge

Got this fridge as part of our new build. It does the job, but it is a true no bells/no whistles fridge. I don’t like anything about it. It leaves fingerprint smudges on the stainless steel. The fridge is near impossible to see into if you're tall. I feel like this would hurt anyone’s back to crouch and look into, so it’s not accessible. The freezer is fine, but no light. There are better fridges out there, and I wouldnt recommend this fridge. Unfortunately, most of GE’s products feel like they cut corners. For a fridge this expensive, you'd expect more.

It is very difficult to set the temperature so it is accurate in the refrigerator and the freezer simultaneously. Also, the freezer door closes fine, but after a little while, it loosens its seal and the door is still closed but not as tight and room air gets in slightly.

Refrigerators are now built too deep. No ones counter space has become deeper, why would refrigerators be built deeper? Why doesn't the freezer space have a light? With a top freezer there is absolutely no ambient light getting in the freezer space. There are no aftermarket lights available either. The lights in the refrigerator compartment are dim at best.

I am very disappointed with this product.. The freezer is hard to regulate. When you get the right temperature in the refrigerator it's not cold enough in the freezer or Vin the freezer or vice versa. I will never buy another one that doesn't have dual thermostats that's. And then to make matters worse every time I close the refrigerator door the freezer door pops open a little. I end up throwing out ice cream and things that get too soft because warm air is seeping in

A travesty

This unit is going to be replaced with a new one from backorder. The freezer compartment arrived as a total train wreck. The ice maker was smacked away from the liner and was dangling by only one mount screw. The ice maker stopped working in just 2 days. The small crisper drawer was broken down in back. This unit shoukld have been scraped at the factory, but now it sits in my kitchen held together with wood glue and duct tape. The compressor runs nonstop. This unit cannot receive a good review. Will see if the replacement does better.

Not often would I feel compelled to write a review about a fridge that came with the apartment im renting, yet here I ham. Cons: fridge has very weak magnets in the door and doesn’t like to stay shut or to shut when it’s almost shut. The fridge’s layout is horrible. The only place a gallon of milk will feet - even if you adjust the shelves - is the top shelf, or the door. The warmest parts of the fridge. There is one temperature control for the fridge and freezer. Set it at the recommended setting and food in the back of your fridge will freeze. Want your food to not freeze? Well then a good chunk of the fridge will be in the danger zone when it comes to temperature. It’s obvious the “budget special” for faux luxurious apartments. Pros: it looks halfway decent from the outside when it’s closed.

My old GE refrigerator had adjustable/split shelves which were great for tall items. This one only has fixed shelves. In addition the space on the door only has limited space for tall bottles. This refrigerator has a tiny bit more cubic feet than the old one and it appears to be in the veg. bins. I wish I had my old one back.

This fridge only has temperature control for refrigerator and freezer only kicks in when the refrigerator does. Food in freezer gets frost all over no matter how little food you have in there. Can’t keep ice cream in the freezer, it’s always too soft.

We've owned this frig for 2 years. We have replaced the bottom shelf twice, because the drawers keep falling off the track. No matter the weight or even if it's empty. It's the worse design. Spent 65 for a new bottom shelf and it still does it.

We've had this product for a few months now and are not happy with it. The veggie drawers are nice and big, but when you fill them they're hard to pull out. I'm afraid they're going to break. The self in the freezer falls down when the ice maker tray gets full or when there is weight on the shelf. The pegs going into the side of the freezer are too short to support the shelf. It really doesn't do any good to have a large freezer when you can't put things on the top shelf. We used to have a bottom freezer refrigerator, but it died during COVID and the only one that would fit in our kitchen was this one.

Poor interior design does not allow for storage of milk, juice, or large containers unless you remove a shelf, leaving only 2 shelves. No interior freezer light and the refrigerator light bulb was broke when it was delivered and it took them 6 months to replace it. Stores do not carry the bulb. The temp constantly fluctuates in both the freezer and refrigerator. So disappointed because all my appliances are GE and I love them.

It makes a lot of noise even when the ice maker is turned off. The freezer makes some kind of weird frost on everything you put into it. It is two months old and we already have had a service guy out. It came with our new house but we will be looking for a new refrigerator to replace it.

Fridge is great to look at and easy to clean. Freezer is larger than previous top freezers but makes getting into refrigerator difficult. Gallon jug of milk and iced tea do not fit in the fridge normally. Have to bend down to look at top shelf in fridge. Light in fridge makes it difficult to put items on top self. Can't adjust shelves to have larger items fit. Lots of door space. Makes ice nicely. Louder when running than the one we replaced. Overall, good refrigerator, will need time to get used to. Don't really like the way it is set up now.

Noisy when running. Very inconvenient shelving. Impossible to find a convenient place for a gallon of milk. Light and controls limit what you can store on top shelf. Door doesn't always close. Would return this if I could. Worst fridge I have ever had. Stainless is difficult to keep clean.

Poorly designed

Refrigerator works well, but have a hard time getting stuff off of shelves. The way the freezer is made, it takes up all the space on top shelf, and you have almost have to stand on your head to get food out. It is very poorly designed. I am barely 5 ft. tall, and it is really hard for me, so imagine if you are taller, you would have to bend double to be able to reach in refrigerator. I bought about 5 months ago, and really disappointed with it, but I will have to deal with it, because I made a poor choice. After I bought, I read reviews, and saw that other people had complained about same issues.

The fridge is overall ok. The shelves are not tall enough so i have to lay down the sodas which makes them flat. So i had to remove one shelf so i can stand my sodas

Ge has just replaced the first refrigerator I had like this that had 5 service calls in 6 months. Would only give me another just like it. Have only had this one 4 days so we will see.

Broken down twice in the 1st year

Brand new fridge installed in our new house in January 2017. Within 2 months, we had to have it serviced as it started pouring out water and flooding our kitchen. After 11 months, the ice maker stopped working. This fridge is a lemon. I expect a new fridge to work. This one doesn't.

Although the refrigerator does its job, organizing the food is challenging. For starters, you must bend down in order to access anything inside. Also, few choices exist to move shelves up or down, so that you are limited to particular spaces for tall items, such as milk or juice containers. The top freezer freezes the food well, however the shelf inside does not support too many heavy items. After placing about 14 quart containers of frozen food on the shelf, the shelf dislodged. Overall, it is now really user friendly. Other than that, it does its job.

This refrigerator is junk!

This refrigerator has one temperature control dial for both the refrigerator and the freezer. We have had this unit since April 2017. We have yet to get the dial set so it will cool properly. We either have frozen food in the refrigerator or thawing/melting food in the freezer. After nearly six months you would like we were smart enough to set the dial right but apparently not>

Haven't been satisfied with product since purchase

Purchased July 2016. Have had to have 2 icemakers installed. Very noisy. Gaskets on doors are turning pink. Not sure what is going on with that. Have always had GE refrigerators. Warranty will soon be up.
