Great machine, low noise & great ice taste quality

We have been looking for over a year for an 'Ideal' ice maker. After researching tons of choices, it boiled done to 'Clear Ice' technology from a reputable manufacturer. We also had a debate on where to install it and we finally figured out it would fit nicely between the washer and dryer in laundry room, which also had the water and drain connection behind washing machine (needed to order pump too). Whirlpool had this on sale, so we ordered it, installed it and are very happy with the operation, low noise level and excellent quality ice made.

This is our second identical ice maker and we love the ice it produces which is perfect for drinks. The ice is clear in 3/4" x 1/2" squares and remains frozen in the reservoir unlike most machines so it lasts much longer in drinks and does not waste water. Daily ice output should be plenty for a family and guests and it is perfectly sized for replacing a trash compactor in the kitchen. Great product when maintained properly with timely cleaning intervals.

I like the size/shape of the cubes. Also, the design of the scooper and holder is well placed for easy access and storage without touching the ice in the bin. One negative is that it makes a lot of periodic noise, much more than my previous icemaker. I can hear water running and the machine humming from our pantry (not close by). Overall, it is a good appliance.

I've had this ice maker for about six months now, and I am prepared to say it's the best under-the-counter ice machine I've ever owned. Since I already had an electrical outlet and a gravity drain, installation was no problem, and the machine itself has given no problems. It simply goes about its business of making nice, neat, smallish ice cubes that don't clump together (as the ice in my previous machine did). It may not be the quietest model in the world, but it is not so noisy as to be a bother. I highly recommend this ice machine!

Built-in ice maker, 1 month old and still working!

Direct replacement for a KitchenAid that needed a new circuit board. It is exactly the same machine except the Whirlpool model does not have the "fancy" extra door handle (which I didn't like anyway) and this new one has a very easy access built-in water filter. Slid right in the existing space perfectly without a single modification.

Great Icemaker, but Routine Cleaning Required

This is my third Whirlpool undercounter icemaker over the past 39 years. Each has performed flawlessly. Despite filters in the inlet water line, I have had to disassemble the units to clean accumulated mold about every 6 months. Not a bad job, but I'd rather not have to doe it. My understanding is that mold accumulation is a common issue with icemakers not in a freezer environment. Hopefully the additional filter built into this new unit will slow the growth.

We have had this icemaker for a few weeks. So far it has been very good. Nice nugget clear ice technology. No leaks or problems, output as expected. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is the price. I had looked at other brands and a lot were less expensive. However, in reading those reviews, almost all had reported problems somewhere during the time of ownership, a lot within a year or less. So, perhaps you get what you pay for? I won't know about longevity for some time, but so far am happy with the product. I have had other Whirlpool products, and have always been satisfied with them. If this is still working great in 5 years, I could update to 5 stars, but I most likely will have no way to update this, or remember to, or perhaps it outlasts me! LOL

I've wanted an under counter ice maker with a filter that would produce lots of ice. This one fulfills all the objectives! However, it does give off a lot of hot air. I had a vent installed in the cabinet, but now the hot air really heats up the room. Product manual states it can be enclosed on three sides. Only front needs to be open, which it is. The vent was installed to help the ice maker to NOT overheat. Just something to consider when installing this ice maker.

Ice Maker

We bought the ice maker in May and had in installed in June in our pool house. We used it once or twice and it stopped making ice. We did all th things they said for technical support with no luck. It drained well most would t freeze the water. Whirlpool scheduled a service technician who came out and saw the issue with a bent element that kept the water from staying on long enough to freeze. He left and contacted technical support who advised that if the element needs to be replaced it would take two technicians but to try to clean the ice maker element and see if that will correct the issue. He returned and did just that and it started making ice again. We are pleased that it has been one week and working as designed.

We replaced our GE monogram ice maker with this Whirlpool ice maker and it is quiet, and it makes plenty of ice. The bin has a nice flap that keeps the ice from falling out when the door is first opened. I highly recommend this ice maker.

It took forever to get this ice maker due to supply issues. Had to order the one without the pump and then order the pump separately and put everything together Worth the wait and effort. We had this unit in our old house and my wife loved it. Really missed it in the new house. Had to wait over six months to get it but the wife is now happy. Nice clear ice cubes! This unit also seems quieter than the old one I had from 8 years ago.

I bought this a month ago. So far we really like it. Very easy to use the ice. I don't have to worry about breaking the ice up before scooping it, like I did on the last ice machine. The ice is not clear as advertised but it makes a lot of ice in a short amount of time. It's very quite. I used an external filter and it was much less expensive than the internal one.

I purchased this ice machine after my old one stopped working. It was shipped fairly quickly and got stuck at the shipping facility so it took a few weeks to arrive. The only other piece of advice I would give is to make sure you know of you need the pump because I didn’t pay attention and ordered this one that doesn’t come with a pump like my old one did. I went back and ordered the pump to install into the ice machine and it works like a charm. Machine makes noise, but much quieter than my last one. I’d highly recommend!

When we purchased our home, this ice maker was the primary ice source in the house. After 6 years, it quit freezing and we were advised to buy a new one. We purchased the same model so that it would fit and be easy to install. We do like how fast the icemaker produces the ice (it has a quick ice feature) and how much ice it stores. We live on the ocean so we use ice constantly so it keeps up with the volume that we need. Overall it is a good ice maker, just a little noisy.

Just got it set up. The installation instruction steps were out of sequence and had to stop to figure out what really needed to be done and undo what had been done in previous steps and redo it. I highly suggest Whirlpool take a look and rewrite the install instructions. Hooking it up and putting it in place was straight forward. Pre steps to turning it on were clear. The machine is quick. We had ice within 3 hours of turning it on and it was at capacity within 12 hours. Beautiful clear cubes.

The old ice maker suddenly stopped working and I decided to not put money into repairing an old appliance. This unit dropped right in and set up in less than 10 minutes. My ONLY complaint is that there is a loud (intermittent) oscillating sound coming from this unit that was not present in the old unit. It is not a good sound, almost like a part is already wearing out. For this reason, I removed one star from the review.

Bought this to replace a 15 year old whirlpool ice maker . Makes perfect 3/4 x 3/4 x1/2 inch cubes. Ice does not stick together. Mine has a gravity drain but can be equipped with pump. Also has spot for a filter but will work without one. You will want some filter in line and clean every 6-9 months and it will last.

Previously owned a Scotsman, which I believe may have been a little sturdier overall, but love the smaller ice cubes, quieter operation, and the ingenious drop-down shelf that prevents most of the "dropped ice cubes on the floor" that were routine with the Scotsman. Also like the built-in filter holder. Holds a bit less ice, but has had no problem keeping up with our heavy demands.

I had a Whirlpool 18-inch icemaker for almost 15 years and it was in the house when we bought it. It gave good service and nice ice so when it developed a leak that could not be fixed I decided to purchase another Whirlpool about 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately they don't make an 18-inch wide model anymore and had to purchase the 15-inch model. The down side is the smaller size required some trim work for my cabinets. The door and ice storage unit is much smaller than my previous one which does not allow me to just dip by large glasses in the bin and the ice in back tends to stick together. I do like the light and it seems to keep ice well . I will have to use it longer to see how well it performs, ease of cleaning etc.

I bought this ice maker back in May, and with the kitchen renovation going on, I'm just now able to use it. I wanted to have ice for Thanksgiving, so I hooked it up and put the drain hose in a 5-gallon bucket because our plumber canceled on us and couldn't come for another day. Now, I knew there would be some water, but that's an understatement. Within 24 hours, I dumped 10 gallons of water out. You would think since this is an ice maker that it would make ice and keep it frozen, and as you use it, it would just refill itself. Oh no, it continuously makes ice, and the ice that's inside slowly melts. This is such a waste of water. We don't always use the ice, so basically, we are wasting water just to keep ice in it. I wish I would have known this before buying; I would have saved a lot of money and just used refillable ice trays.

Watch out for moisture issues at drain and trap!

I installed this unit 2 weeks ago which replaced the 2005 version of this ice maker. This new model has a process cycle that separates the minerals from the water. It then goes through a "flushing" cycle that purges the minerals that were separated out. It dumps the water out so vigorously that it splashes water out if you have an air gap drainage system. It is just a few drops each cycle, but adds up with each new cycle. Another problem with this flushing process is that it is not directed through a tube. Instead it passes through the ice in the storage bin on the way to the drain hole at the bottom of the storage bin and chills the water. This chilled water sits in the trap and causes condensation issues. I have been struggling to solve these 2 major issues. I solved the splashing issue by adding a 3" to 2" reducer bushing to the 2" drain that had worked perfectly on my old unit for over 18 years. Still trying to sort out the condensation issue which I expect to get even worse this summer when it warms up and the humidity levels rise. I am lucky to have a basement and was able to see these moisture issues before I rotted out the hardwood flooring, sub-flooring, and floor joist. I recommend that the Whirlpool engineers add a 2nd drain tube for the water being discharged during the flushing cycle to keep it from passing directly through the ice which would reduce the degree of chilling to the water that sits in the trap between cycles.

This was installed a year ago. We went on a business trip and came home to an empty ice machine witth the clean light on. We cleaned it, turned it back on and nothing. A family member who has one told us sometimes you have to clean it more than once. We have cleaned it 2 more times and it still does not work. Very convenient this occurred right after the warranty went out. The unit is very loud, we have an open concept house and you can hear it all over.

We love having an ice maker however at 6 months the grid that makes/cuts the ice broke. Apparently the part is on back order so we wait to see if they can find it. Very frustrating as we have not made it to a year yet.

Quality doesn’t show

We love the ice. This was the fourth ice maker we have had in 15 years under the counter in our kitchen. They were trashed when one had a messed up controller and the other two loss refrigerant. This new one arrived with a bolt screwed in crooked and the Whirlpool label applied crooked, but it makes ice! I saved the door handle lip and water pump from the last one so if they failed, I didn’t have to order new ones.

Squealing pump

After owning my whirlpool icemaker for one month I am happy with everything except for one extra it came with. The circulating pump was bad from day one and just kept getting louder and louder. The repairman came yesterday has the part ordered and should have us up and running in about two weeks. Even though we’ve had this Minor backset I still like my icemaker and would buy it again

Auto shut-off

I like the item. Makes good ice. When I bought it, I specifically asked if it had a feature/sensor to automatically shut off when the bin was full. I was told “yes.” It does not shut off, the installer didn’t know, and the directions make no reference to it. I really don’t have time to monitor this thing daily. What say you, Whirpool?

Ice clumps together a little but scoop easily breaks it apart so it's not that big of a deal. But it's loud. I don't remember our prior GE one bing nearly this loud.

Worked great for a few months. Is a bit noisy but made great ice up to top of bin. Now it puts off alot of heat and barely makes enough ice for 2 cocktails. I use the cleaning stuff afresh and still barely makes any ice.

My ice maker is now dead

I had this ice maker for over 3 years and it made good clear ice but today it is no longer making ice today :( The water runs but it no longer freezes. I am now going to have to look into getting a new one. I don’t know if i will buy whirlpool again bc i feel that it should have lasted for more than 3 years for the price i paid for it. Buyer beware.

I bought this one week ago. It does not work, but the dealer has been extremely responsive. They sent a lower-level employee out within a few hours of my calling them and sent a technician within two working days. He came yesterday. He said he needed a part that he hoped he could get today and that, if he could, he would install it today. I gave it two stars instead of one because the dealer responded so well.

Don’t bother!

I replaced my old Scotsman with this poor imitation. Cubes are pitifully small, melting very quickly in a beverage. I always used the cubes from my Scotsman for my frequent parties. Now, I have to add bags of ice to my shopping list! I will soon be looking for a replacement!

Not A Good Start

At this time it is not working. We have not seen a single ice cube yet and that’s too bad in the middle of Summer when it is most needed. The service technician has had one visit to diagnose the problem and is returning today to replace a sensor in the ice bin that may be sending an erroneous signal that the bin is full when it is in fact empty.

Bought this product in November and it is now not working. Woke Christmas morning to find water coming out of the machine. Inside it was filled with water. Bailed the water out and turned it off. Next day restarted it and same thing happened. Have a call into the service man who installed it.

This is the second Whirlpool icemaker I have purchased ... the other one lasted for 7 years. While the previous one was great and quiet, that is NOT the case for this one. Every times it goes into a cycle ... which is WAY too often for the amount of ice II use, it sounds like there is a semi in the room. Installing it was more difficult that it needed to be because the lack of precise instructions was/is obvious. ONE sentence would have saved me two days ... i.e., remove connector if hooking up directly to water source! This is the second Whirlpool appliance I have replaced this year .. and it is the LAST!

Purchased this new Icemaker and it has never made ice. Repair technician said it would never make ice because it was faulty out of the box. Technician confirmed proper installation and waited the required 24+ hours the instructions for it produce ice. One week later, still no ice.

Installed the ice maker in August. Two months later, it stopped making ice. Several days before repair man could come. Diagnosed a failed pump. Ten days before a new one could be installed. Ice maker still would not make ice. Now, waiting for a third repair visit. Approaching two months with no ice!

We bought 3 months ago and is broken already . I even put clean cycle it is a home bar set up and really not used as much as most. Very disappointed I had to pay distributor 75.00 to repair. I just bought it from them 3 months ago.
