I live my new Upright Freezer. It is quiet and has an amazing amount of space in side. The shelves and door shelves are sleep and have ample space. I love the temperature control right on front of the door. So easy to view Plus it is energy efficient

We bought this same upright freezer two years ago and loved it. No more digging through a chest freezer and so easy to clean out. Needed more space so we bought a second one. Love the alarm if temp changed a little, like when the kids left the door open.

I love this freezer. It has the electronic temperature on the outside door so I can see the temperature is where it needs to be daily. Very quiet. The shelves and set up is great for storing all my frozen items.

This is our 2nd freezer. The same model as before except that it is the one without drawers or glass shelves. The first one is at least 6 years old. Both are in the garage. We have had no issues with either freezer at any time. Plenty of room for all our needs. Would purchase again.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! We purchased the same freezer for our garage three years ago and it is a wonderful freezer! I like the alarm if the door is left open too long or if it’s not keeping the temp. I like the display and the seal is solid! So, when our other brand’s compressor failed again (2x in five years - replaced the entire freezer in year two under the purchased, extended warranty), we decided to replace it with the GE. The back panel of this GE model is a flap of steel which doesn’t dent in transit so the compressor is safe unlike other brands! This is a huge concern nowadays!! The cavity is large and fits many baskets for organization. It’s just a great freezer!!

So far so good. I am pleased with the size and style of this freezer. The shelving is very well made and holds a lot.The whole freezer seems very solid. I’m so thankful for the alarm and will NEVER purchase a freezer without one. The alarm on our last fridge sounded off alerting us that it had died. This happened a day before we were to leave for vacation saving us a lot of $$. Alarms are a must have!

Although it has only been 3 weeks I am very pleased with it. I spent 4 months with another brand freezer that would not keep temperature. The first one didn’t even get cold. The second one the door seal would not seal. Frost was building up on a frost free unit We had to duck tape the door shut in order not to loose anything. My GE freezer is keeping a good temperature range of 1 degree to minus 3 and defrosting on a regular schedule of every 24 hours. So going forward I hope this continues.

This 17.3 Cubic Foot Freezer replaced a 22 cubic foot freezer. Because of the bottom drawer/basket and overall layout, we have found that for organizing frozen food, this is far superior to the larger unit.

Hi. The capacity is rather on the small side for me. However, an overall great product. It freezes well. Noiseless. Just not a lot of room to store big bulky item's. Oh yeah! The bottom drawer holds 2 large turkey's plus other meats. However, if you need more storage, I'd suggest a larger size. Hope this helps someone.

We did alot of homework before purchasing this freezer. We just installed it in our garage. It came packaged well and has controls and a temperature read out on the door. Good lighting inside. A door that shuts itself and with a good suction seal. The door opens from left to right and is not convertible.

Performance details of new 17 CU Ft Freezer

I use a smart temp/humidity device inside freezer that tracks the performance. The 17 cu ft freezer is operating as designed. It is set at 4 degrees F, and it fluctuates between 3 -9 degrees F with humidity between 45 and 60%. This freezer creates a lot less heat in area when running than old freezer did. It runs every 1.5 hours. (1/2 hour run time and 1 hour off before next run time.) This cycle is similar to previous 40 yr old freezer. Ice Cream and coffee creamers are frozen solid. They were only partially frozen in old freezer. Old freezer was not frost free. Glad I will not ever have to defrost again! Very Pleased with 17 cu ft Frost Free GE Freezer performance. IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTION: Would be better if temp reading on outside of door displayed actual temp inside freezer, rather than just its set point. Also setpoint illumination (on/off) name "CONTROL DORMANT" is a poor choice of words to describe its function (just sayin).

Thrilled at our new purchase of a GE Energy Star freezer! We have researched self defrosting upright freezers for months and finally decided on this model. It is the perfect size for our space in the garage and it is garage ready. This is a must in the valley where temperatures can be well over 100 degrees in the summer. We filled the 4 shelves, basket and 5 door compartments with items from our old unit and still have room for more. Everything is easily accessible and visible. From what we can tell so far, we expect this freezer will last many years.

The product seems to function well. I did notice that the lock is a little flimsy. When I lock the freezer door and pull on the handle it opens about a half an inch, I expected it to stay closed completely. Also the measurements online is not accurate.

This freezer replaced our 16 year old freezer. Freezers are greatly improved. We love the design of the interior, the exterior digital display on the door, and love having a tone that warns us if the door is ajar. The shelves in the door are not as wide as in our pervious freezer. We miss having wider shelves in the door. We did not understand that the super freeze is not on all the time but now understand why.

Just bought this 17 ft3 GE freezer to replace an 18-year-old Frigidaire, whose compressor finally went. So far it's been working perfectly, but it is brand new and should be working perfectly. The compressor is very quiet. Good suction on the door when it's closed. Has temperature and alarm controls on the outside of the door, which is very convenient, obviating the need for opening the freezer door to adjust these. Also, self-defrosting with a drain pan in the back recess so water doesn't drain all over your floor. Finally, it is garage ready, meaning just what it says: it can be used in a garage within a very wide external temperature range. We put ours in the basement instead of the garage, since our garage can get pretty dirty and snowy during our northern New England winter months. I can see placing this freezer in a garage in more temperate climates where there is little-to-no snow.

We got the freezer for the garage. To date it has handled temperatures down to 20 F w/o issues. It holds a lot, and the controls are simple. It is fairly "mouse proof"; it is easy to install a net of wire cloth over the opening to the cpompressor, which also keeps the leaves out. Very satisfied.

I can't give a full review because I have not had it that long but here are some points I like. Unit was not as heavy as I had expected so was very easy to handle with another person. Packaging producted the freezer from any nicks or bumps. Instructions for install were easy to follow and had the unit up and ready to freeze in a matter of minutes. So far so good but I trust GE so hopefully this one will make me trust them even more.

The only reason for a 4 and not a 5 is because I order my freezer on Sept. 29, 2023 and it was supposed to be here the next week. I just received it Oct. 18, 2023. After the long wait, for me, it arrived. Otherwise, everything went smoothly. The delivery men did an excellent job and were very helpful getting it out of the box and leveling it. It cooled to the proper temperature overnight and I will load it. I have cleaned it with vinegar and water solution and will start filling it up!

GE Garage ready freezer is awesome! We had it delivered 09/08/23, so we haven’t had it long but it’s excellent so far & much better than our last one. It’s keeping everything solid frozen with no issues. I love the wire shelves & basket at the bottom. Lots of room for everything. I think I’m a little worried because we had to watch our old freezer so closely to make sure that everything stayed frozen. It’s really ice that I see the temperature every time I walk by.

So far I am thrilled with our new GE Upright Freezer. It replaced an older model (28 years older). I'm looking forward to this new frost-free freezer, and not losing food that's been freezer burned, especially. The delivery, set-up and take old away went very smooth. The road watchman showed up also, double checking the delivery crew was working as required.

Smaller 21 year old Kenmore upright was failing. Research and visit to our local Appliance Store led us to this Model as well as our experience with our GE Appliances in our Kitchen. Love the size and features of this Model. Set-up and start-up was simple and reached the desired temperature within hours. Didn't like the idea of it being built in Thialand but not many appliances made in the USA today, unfortunately!

It's new. Just installed. No difficulties with installation and reassembling of door after removing to get it through the door and down the stairs. Shelving is nicely spaced. Door space is good. I just wish I could purchase once that ISN'T frost free.

We owned a chest freezer for 42 years, and before it quit working, we decided to purchase a new freezer. We decided to purchase this GE upright freezer over a chest freezer due to accessibility. This freezer is spacious, being upright makes everything easy to see and accessibility is great. The doors on the inside of the door is nice too. We are very satisfied with our purchase.

This GE is a well built freezer. Once delivered and set up the freezer reached the set temp of 5 below zero within about 3 hours and has been operating at that temperature consistently. There is ample storage for the average small family. We are very pleased with this freezer.

We just love our new freezer. We had nursed an old 60 year old freezer for so long. We admired ourselves for keeping it as long as possible and not be wasteful, but the utility of the new one has won us over. Frost free, better layout and easier to use . I love the freezer and that it is garage ready for the Florida heat. Lots of room and a safety lock on door. Drawbacks are that it could use some extra door bins like the whirlpool has and would have liked the bins to be clear for visibility. wish the door would open from the opposite side, like the whirlpool. Didn’t realize the door opened one way until till after we received it. Overall, very room with deep shelves.

This freezer is prefect for my needs. Since it is in my garage I selected a garage ready model. It is energy star rated so saves on energy usage too. My favorite feature is the interior light which makes it easy for me to see what I have and select the needed item.

Disappointed that in this day and age these appliances are not smart as a standard. It would make sense to have them send notifications for sorry open, the power is lost, when food temps are unsafe, or when inoperable.

This was my first upright freezer purchase. We purchased as side of beef and needed plenty of room to store it. Look no more. I thing maybe a whole would have fit. I love the upright model and it fit perfectly in my garage. The only thing I would change is to make it easier to open. The seal is so tight *not complaining* that I have to pull really hard to open it. Good purchase all in all though

Unexplainable malfunction

I have had this freezer for two years and it has stopped working properly on two occasions leading to a meltdown. Luckily, I use an online temperature monitor to get warnings. It continues to work and cycle, but gradually warms to thawing. It would cost as much to get service as to get a whole new freezer. Very disappointed in this appliance.

This is the most disappointing GE product purchase I have ever made. Trusting GE I purchased this sight unseen from a local appliance store. I did look it up online. It seemed fine. Lesson learned: always go to a store to look at them. When opening the freezer door, it does not stay balanced. It comes off the floor in the back. The inside shelving is cheap !y made. The bottom bin is worthless. When trying to open it bin gets stuck and the entire bin moves around when opening. It is hard to close and when i do the whole bin has a hard time closing. Worst purchase i have ever made. Always liked GE products not any longer. The entire interior is and looks like very inferior plastic. I made a big mistake with purchase. If i could return I would. I looked at booklet that was included thinking they sent me the wrong freezer. I have never had to complain about any appliance.

I purchased this product (I am probably crazy) to replace a like GE 3 1/2 yr freezer. This should last like 5 yrs, but we shall see. I guess with all current appliances you plan on frequent replacements. Quality is pat tense.

Compressor seized on 3 year old appliance. There is no standard warranty for GE after the first year, not even for something like the compressor - which should last at least 10 years. Most other major appliance manufacturers cover the compressor 5 or 10 years after purchase. We will purchase one of theirs next time.
