GE 22.1 cu. ft. Counter-Depth French-Door Refrigerator 36-Inch Wide ADA In Fingerprint Resistant Slate GYE22GMNES

This French-door refrigerator has a total capacity of 22.1 cubic feet with a counter-depth design. Most reviewers report the interior is roomy with flexible, adjustable shelving and a convenient lower freezer drawer. The layout includes door bins on both sides (left bins are smaller, right bins are larger), LED lighting throughout, and a middle drawer that many owners find useful for organization.

The slate finish is widely praised by owners for its sophisticated appearance and practical benefits. It resists fingerprints much better than stainless steel, is easier to clean, and complements modern kitchen designs. Many reviewers specifically note it looks more upscale and receives compliments from guests. The finish does require touch-up paint if scratched during installation or use.

Noise levels vary significantly among units. Some owners report the refrigerator is very quiet and runs smoothly, while others describe it as noisy—with complaints ranging from vibration and rattling sounds to loud roaring noises from the compressor and ice maker. A few units have required duct tape to dampen vibration. The ice maker in particular is noted by several reviewers as louder than expected.

The refrigerator features a door-mounted water and ice dispenser. The water dispenser is tall enough to accommodate travel mugs and pitchers. However, several reviewers report the water dispenses slowly, and some note the dispenser leaves drips on a flat surface with no drain area. The ice maker is functional but small; it dispenses ice reliably but some units have experienced issues with black discoloration in the ice or the ice maker failing entirely. The water shuts off when the door is opened, which some owners wish could be changed.

Some reviewers have noted that certain accessories previously included with earlier models are no longer provided, such as egg trays or dairy compartments in the door. Additionally, protective plastic wrap is factory-installed and can be difficult to remove, especially around exterior devices. Buyers should verify what is included with their specific unit and be prepared for extra time removing protective coverings during installation.

The counter-depth design (31.3 inches deep) allows the refrigerator to align flush with kitchen countertops rather than protruding into the room, which many owners appreciate for space and aesthetics. Most reviewers are satisfied with the fit and find it improves kitchen flow. One reviewer noted the depth is slightly more than ideal for their setup, but overall the counter-depth format is viewed as a major advantage.

While many owners report satisfaction, some have experienced significant issues. A few reviewers report the refrigerator or freezer failed within 4–5 years, and one owner received a defective unit that required replacement. The secondary ice maker has been problematic for some units. A small number of units arrived with defects such as uneven shelves or non-functional water/ice dispensers. Most units perform well, but buyers should be aware of potential early-failure cases and consider warranty coverage.
