The Danby DIM2500SSDB is a portable, countertop ice maker with a stainless steel finish. This free-standing unit produces 25 pounds of ice per day and includes LED controls for operation. It features a self-clean mode and is designed to sit on a counter rather than being built into cabinetry.
This ice maker is suited for users who need supplemental ice production in their home without permanent installation. Its countertop design allows it to be placed on kitchen surfaces, in bars, or in other areas where additional ice capacity is needed. As a portable appliance, it requires counter space and access to a power outlet. Confirm that your available counter area can accommodate the unit before purchasing.

Gathering the reviews
We continuously collect owner reviews and public discussions from major retailers and community forums, de-duplicate them, and set aside anything we can’t tie to a verified purchase.
Calculating the average
Averaged across every source we found (Amazon, AJ Madison, and other retailers). Each source counts in proportion to how many ratings it has, so a store with thousands of reviews moves the number more than one with only a handful.

- Ice production volume — mentioned in 2 reviews
- Overall noise level — mentioned in 2 reviews
“Just purchased & prepped, now making ice cubes. Although it's not as fast as I'd prefer, it does a good job. Seems I can go 3-4 cycles before neededing to empty the basket & get ice cubes into freezer. Sure does a lot more than the one here previously.”
Owners Answer
The questions shoppers ask, answered from real owner reviews and discussions across the web — not the manufacturer spec sheet.
Is there a beeping or alarm feature, and can it be muted?Based on 2 owner mentions
The machine has beeping alarms that sound every 30 minutes during normal operation to notify you that ice has been made. Unfortunately, there is no volume control or mute function, and the manufacturer confirmed the alarms cannot be turned off. Some reviewers find this feature disruptive.
What reliability issues have been reported?Based on 6 owner mentions
A minority of reviewers have reported durability concerns, including units that stopped making ice after 2–3 months, leaking after a few months of use, and error codes (bucket full or water low indicators lighting up incorrectly). Most units work reliably, but some owners have experienced failures within the first year. If issues arise, the company is reported to be helpful with support.
How quickly does this ice maker produce ice?Based on 4 owner mentions
Most reviewers report that the machine makes ice very quickly—many note a full basket in 20–30 minutes. Some users report it takes 3–4 cycles before needing to empty the basket, and a few mention it's not quite as fast as they'd prefer, but the consensus is that it delivers ice on demand without significant delay.
What size and shape are the ice cubes?Based on 4 owner mentions
The machine produces bullet-shaped cubes in a medium size that fits standard refrigerator ice dispensers. Reviewers consistently praise the cube quality and note that all cubes come out defect-free.
Is setup easy?Based on 2 owner mentions
Yes—reviewers consistently report that setup is straightforward and takes only a few minutes. The included instructions are easy to follow, and the machine is ready to use right out of the box.
Does the machine have a self-cleaning function?Based on 1 owner mention
Yes, this model includes a self-cleaning function, which reviewers cite as a major selling point. One owner specifically praised it for preventing the interior staining issues they experienced with other, more expensive ice makers.
Can I use bottled water or filtered water instead of tap water?Based on 3 owner mentions
Yes. Multiple reviewers report using bottled water, RO (reverse osmosis) filtered water, or other filtered sources, and note that the ice tastes better when made with filtered water. This is also useful in areas with hard water.
Does the machine operate continuously, or do I need to press a button each time?Based on 1 owner mention
The machine requires you to press the button to start each cycle—it does not automatically keep making ice as long as the reservoir is full. One reviewer noted this as a limitation if they were expecting fully automatic operation.

Brand Background
About Danby
Danby is a family-owned Canadian appliance manufacturer headquartered in Guelph, Ontario, that has been producing refrigeration products since 1947. The company has carved out a distinct niche in the North American market by focusing primarily on compact and specialty refrigeration rather than competing directly with full-size kitchen appliance giants. Fridge.com currently tracks 75 Danby products, with the catalog heavily weighted toward space-saving solutions: 18 compact refrigerators, 14 chest freezers, 13 upright freezers, and 9 beverage centers represent the core of their offerings. The brand also maintains smaller selections of French door refrigerators, kegerators, and wine storage units. Among the most frequently monitored models in the Fridge.com database are the DBC117A1 beverage cooler and the DCF050A6WM chest freezer, reflecting consumer interest in Danby's specialty categories. With an average rating of 4.1 out of 5 stars across captured reviews, Danby positions itself as a value-tier option for shoppers seeking secondary refrigeration, dorm room solutions, garage freezers, or dedicated beverage storage without the premium pricing of larger appliance brands.
